The Brosnan era is criticized for poor writing, but in my opinion, the writing in the Craig era has not been any better. When you take a closer look beyond all the artsy fartsy fluff and character studies, the films aren't really the intelligent and Oscar worthy masterpieces as many claim them to be. The Spectre leaks further prove this point.Veronica wrote:1)like itdirtybenny wrote:Here are a couple of titles to wet your appetite.

I can see the paralel between the movies(first three at least). Both "firsts" were directed by Campbell. The "seconds" were directed by action directors(Forster is an action director, right??) and the "thirds" were directed by "character" directors.

GoldenEye is considered Brosnan's best, while his other Bond films haven't held up as well. From what I've observed so far, this also seems to be the case with Craig and Casino Royale, although we'll have to wait and see how things turn out.
GE is not only Pierce's best Bond but also his last great actioner (or even his last great on-screen work in his entire career) to the general moviegoers. The Saint 007 wrote:GoldenEye is considered Brosnan's best, while his other Bond films haven't held up as well.

When I started this thread a year and a half ago I was afraid I'd be preaching to the choir, repeating myself and others over and over without adding to the conversation, perhaps I still am, but at least you're all enjoying it!
Hm, what's 80s about GEThe Saint 007 wrote:I find GoldenEye sort of has an 80s feel to it, which I don't mind.

Here is a scene from GE, I could only find it with french dub but check out how grungy it all looks, and there are many similar looking scenes in the film (although there are a few elegant scenes as well of course).

I never hated his other films, I like TWINE better than TND, and DAD. GE would take the tops, although I do wish they could redo the score.Count_Lippe wrote:I also think TND was better and looks better, and is more like a Bond film should be (although it was mostly a tired rehash of earlier Bonds in terms of story and ideas).
GE looks like kitchen sink realism compared to TND, not exactly how a Bond film should be.
Could it be that around this time (early to mid 90s) the "grungy look" was very fashionable in popular music and perhaps in films as well?
Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.
I wish they'd paid John Barry what he was worth.Dr. No wrote:Count_Lippe wrote: I never hated his other films, I like TWINE better than TND, and DAD. GE would take the tops, although I do wish they could redo the score.
GoldenEye is kind of a bridge film. It has a bit of an 80s feel with the pre-title sequence set in the 80s, the Cold War legacy and the outcome of that period, and even the look, but it has enough of the 90s to feel different from the 80s Moore and Dalton Bonds.Count_Lippe wrote:Hm, what's 80s about GEThe Saint 007 wrote:I find GoldenEye sort of has an 80s feel to it, which I don't mind.
