Going to defend Amazon just for a second here.

We are committed to honoring the legacy of this iconic character while bringing a fresh, exotic new chapter to audiences around the world alongside [producers] Amy [Pascal] and David [Heyman],
This quote has some on social media melting down.
IMHO this is how I would describe cubby’s 007 back in the day. Fleming’s stories to a certain extent were exotic travelogues.
I’d also add that it’s essentially the opposite of what Babs did.
She rehashed her father’s legacy without adding anything new to it, she also was rehashing whatever the popular movies were a year or two before production began.
I could see someone examining the recent history of bond and coming back with it was a tired horse somebody beat to death. Every angle of every promo and action scene was copying somebody else. Even Craig posing in his tactical turtleneck was copied from elsewhere.
Cubby copies Hitchcock north by northwest, but does it distinctive enough to be different and exciting . Bond movies were a showcase of new tech and exotic locations, and notably beautiful women or to put it in DEI those who identified as such.
I’m not sure how we get from the quote from Amazon to reactions of this is DEI.
Maybe it’s because any change is assumed to be in that direction or because Amazon has a bad track record of woke activism.
Babs already went down the woke road with bond. The ideas she tried to smear Amazon with she had contemplated, attempted or implemented. Remember who was 007 in nttd.
Which I’d argue was wrong just because agent 7 was James bond , he worked his way to 007, was at one point 0007 when he changed departments for Yolt. ( I think).
But while Amazon will in all likelihood screw up James Bond, I don’t think the quote here is evidence of it. Maybe I’m missing another release from them.
Although it maybe good to get fresh outrage direct at them to keep them on the right path. Lord knows we could have used more fans in 2006 sticking to their guns when Babs went off the rails. She literally telegraphed everything she was gonna do, however, nobody wanted to believe it.
