Even worse was how they slowly tried to turn M into a maternal figure for Bond. Between that and making Blofeld a jealous sibling... :hair:

I still can't believe how many people went along with that nonsense while pretending it was remotely close to Fleming's intent.
THIS.all of this.
Thing about cr people forget 20 years later it was sold as eons answer to 911, and that 2002 dad pretty much answered it. Rookie middle aged former sas newly minted 00 Craig was operating in a post 911 world, but it never really was anything more than talking points like gritty and realistic. Most of his cr adventure makes no sense in fighting terrorist, forget Texas holdem on the Riviera , Europe and the us would seize their bank accounts, then black sight the survivors for a little lite water boarding. Not being flippant just how it was. As unrealistic as dad was that got the kind of torture bond survived right.

Yes Fleming had some weird fantasy about Nazis funding the war effort at the casino He lost money at. and that’s a fun story and works in his his novel. For cr the only point i pick at is this rip off of Batman begins was supposed to be realistic.

QOS they try to rip off Bourne
Skyfall back to Batman
QOS was particularly awful the quantum organization, mainly trying to relive some of the highlights of the original series before they got the rights for Thunderball at MGM and legally use those organizations and characters again
Each Babs masterpiece was based on some tortured logic while ripping off whatever movie series was popular at the time. She really was a poor keeper of the bond legacy . But the fanboys and media did their job to build her up.
I wonder if we need to look closer at nttd to document her complete destruction of her father’s legacy. There were always defenders trying to lean on the presumption she’d restore bond back to normal, that’s why imho so many went along with her Craig series . They knew it wasn’t really right but enjoyed/supported it as a one off with the full expectation bond would be restored closer to Connery than Craig.

Looking back everything we said leading up to cr was prophetic. I honestly think a lot of what she did was out of spite, not to take too much credit, but we did live in her head for free. Here we are still standing unshaken in our convictions and she had to cash out. Hell a lot of our rivals were killed off and had to be reinvented as new forms. Are we the oldest continual bond form?
Either way my point being that looking back if more people had stood up and made the studio listen before bond 21 had a name the bond will be much different today.
Babs started on a path of destruction unchecked the day Craig got off the boat. If Brosnan had final outing, maybe did justice to cr story by Fleming then a new bond would have started out in a heathy direction instead of the narcissism the series became.

Honestly, I’m hopeful for the series for the first time in a long time. I still have expectations of being disappointed however there is a slim chance they get this right or maybe get a spin off right as Disney does with Star Wars.

There was almost no chance Babs would’ve done anything but what she been doing.
People forget she didn’t run the series until her mother died, for practical purposes, she may have been in charge, but there were still someone above her that could say yes or no when she’s on her own, she lost her way. I think Dana broccoli had a bigger roll after cubby past than we know.

I personally believe Dana gave the bulk of control to her first born MGW as he had been helping Cubby for so many years. After her passing Babz got much more control and well... we saw how that went. I think a fair amount of her arrogance and spite was directed at him as much as the naysayers like ourselves.

That is NOT what a Bond film is all about. Bond is the star, the rest of the characters are mere appendages. This notion to show powerful women equal to Bond is ridiculous. Look what they just did with the newly named 007 in NTTD. In the Bourne films, there is no WOKE. Bourne is the story and that is how it should be. Broccoli emasculated Cr-egg but it all started with Dench as M in 1995 in Goldeneye. They got rid of her finally and replaced her with a proper M in the last few films. You don't CHANGE who Bond is to satisfy the inclusivity brigade that is falling apart now worldwide and everyone knows it. Pascal could resurrect or further bury the franchise with Heyman. The first clue will be who is selected as Bond. Look what just happened this week to Snow WOKE! It bombed because inclusivity and politically active actors is NOT what is desired for prior ESTABLISHED works.
Thanks, BJMDDS. John Nolte has good insights into Hollyweird and its woke culture. He doesn't hold back.

I got into Bond cuz of my grandfather, dad, and uncle. All Bond fans. Fans of the classic Bond, Connery to Brosnan, all those films oozing with babes in bikinis, pure straight man's fantasy. My grandfather is 88, he was around when Dr. No was released. He said it blew people away, Connery just captivated the world, no one's ever seen that kind of hero before where he beds a woman then kills her. Yeah, so I come from a Bond fan family, they got all the books on the film series, and I read them all. Definitely the goal always from Broccoli and Saltzman was pure escapism. None of this melodramatic crap that we eventually got from the Craig series. His films are like Mexican soap operas. Yeah, the emasculation angle came from Barbara Broccoli. From my reading of the series, she's the one who described Bond as "a sexist misogynistic dinosaur, a relic of the Cold War." Then Bruce Feirstein used it when he rewrote the M/Bond scene in GoldenEye. Martin Campbell asked him one day how that scene was going. Feirstein said it was boring, just a couple of guys talking. So Campbell said something like, try the scene with a woman as M. At least in Brosnan's Bond we got good tension in those scenes with Judi Dench. He still had that rebellious spirit, and didn't cry out to mommy M like what Craig did, always waiting for approval or direction. Craig's Bond was a wimp. When he got bashed in the torture scene in CR, Le Chiffre wasted his time because there was nothing to bash.

Snow WOKE plummeted lower its second weekend heading into oblivion and dropping to 2nd place already. Zegler is toxic and her career could be over before it gets rolling.............Following Deadline’s projection of $20 million for its second Friday-Sunday frame — a 53% drop in business from its opening weekend — the trade publication is now estimating the film will take in only $14.2 million from 4,200 theaters in its second weekend for a No. 2 finish. The projected weekend tally marks a 66% drop in Snow White’s opening weekend box office. With Snow White’s box office freefall in its second weekend, Amazon MGM’s action thriller A Working Man is projected to seize the box office crown from the live-action Disney princess movie.

I think there is some truth to this . Based on Two interviews after cr . One was with his neighbor who he voiced his concerns over casting Craig to, lady was some sort of artist and gushed over taking risk and being rewarded. Important part was he like the studio and other partners was not happy with Babs casting Craig. Worthwhile or not we have argued about for a generation, in retrospect where the broccoli family loses the franchise I’d say it was not worth while.

. Second was when the sequel to cr was being talked about, mgw had a script cubby canned because bond does not look back. Supposedly this early bond adventure type of scrip was going to be the basis for bond 22. That never happened . Also mgw was the only one of eon who’d go around give lectures or presentation about the mythos of bond. He thought he really understood why bond mania happened. He was also the guy who bought enough props back at action to make a museum.

Was this related to the early ideas about Bond discovering Vesper had given birth to his child? I also remember Broccoli saying they had briefly considered remaking OHMSS. Hard to believe they essentially ended up going back to both of those awful ideas for NTTD!

I consider QOS to be the worst Bond film simply because it fails at everything it sets out to do. It's the only Bond film that doesn't really stand on its own, and it's also a terrible attempt at a Bourne-style action film. Even though TND experienced similar production woes, it at least succeeds in being a competent action film with quality stunt work.

QOS was pathetic as a water shortage was the threat in a Bond film. Broccoli could wind up on 60 Minutes one day on CBS discussing why she sold out the franchise to Amazon............'The whole concept of James Bond is drenched and born out of profound sexism.’ Helen Mirren insisted espionage stories centered on real-life women deserve the spotlight. ‘Women have always been a major and incredibly important part of the Secret Service, they always have been,’ she explained........who cares what she thinks? I hope Amazon ignores people like her as Mirren does not get it and never has. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/a ... films.html

Now, according to TMZ, the bodies of Hackman and Arakawa have still not been claimed by family members. TMZ believes that their family are still finalising funeral plans, having reached out to the Office of Medical Investigators to confirm that their names still appear on a list of unclaimed decedents as of 27 March. Hackman shared three children – Christopher, Elizabeth Jean and Leslie Anne – with his ex-wife, Faye Maltese, who died in 2017. However, Hackman left his kids out of his will and instead named Arakawa as the sole recipient of his fortune upon death.......nice children to not claim their father's body yet. They must have hated him as he cut them out of his will.

Well I knew there were problems when nobody checked on them. Just from personal experience in a family adult children usually checks on elderly members regularly . Even if they don’t get a long

May be a legal issue . Since Hackmans wife died first then the estate goes to who? Her family can’t claim it . Hackmans presumably can. Unless the family’s are going to request another autopsy .

But all we know of Hackman is the public persona he wanted us to know.

I don’t know what mgw’s script idea was other than it was a young bond adventure. He might be the genius behind vesper’s child .

Thinking about ohmss kind of makes clear how weak Vesper was as a character in CR. Tracy Bond on the other hand was believable as someone bond fell in love with. Vesper , and all the dialog carefully crafted to make her matter the most of any Bond girl , imho it was like a high school romance during a European class trip.

I know in the books bond visits Vespers grave from time to time. I’d argue I don’t think EON’s CR put anything on screen to make that character a driving force in bonds life.

Recycling ..or shoehorning in a ridiculous plot twist(see also the “I am your foster brother” moment with Blofeld. I mean Bond knows it but it was a surprise for the audience.)

Amazon bosses are reportedly planning to cast the youngest ever James Bond - and the new film will be set in the 1950s and '60s. The streaming giant, who bought creative control of the James Bond franchise earlier this year, is said to be keen to hire an actor in their 20s. A TV insider told The Sun: 'As sensational as it was, Daniel's exit caused a headache because the death is still fresh in the minds of fans.'

'They can't just pretend it didn't happen. So they're now looking at his story as a younger man in a different era.'

That’s been a fanboy dream for awhile . But I’m not sure will work.

Even if dei is dead there are certain things modern audiences are not comfortable with.

I don’t think Craig departure nor the death of his jimmy bond means much to the audience either.

We really need to know who is the director then we’ll know how they’ll proceed
