A lot of great points! Just now able to sit down and comment, Thank you all for reading my pathetic little diatribes! :happy spin:
Veronica wrote:Its IN to be way TOO political correct in the USA.
It has nothing to do with racism but Bond IS NOT black.
He is written as a white character,as an Englishmen.
That's just the way it is.

Yes V, it seems "P.C. outrage" has supplanted Base Ball as the national past time here in the states. I guess some folks believe if they are "outraged" over every little thing it somehow makes them better people?

The Saint 007 wrote:The people who love to shout "racist" at those who object a black actor playing Bond seem to forget the backlash Craig received when he was announced as the new Bond. I can't stand the mentality of how if someone can act they should be able to qualify for the role. To me, an actor has to look and play the part properly. No matter how much praise gets for his acting ability, his looks and mannerisms are just not suitable, in my opinion. The more classic Bond elements the filmmakers try to cram in, the more ridiculous and out of place Craig looks.

The series is truly running out of steam if casting a black actor is considered innovative. Not only will it likely create the issues that Benny stated, but it could also lead to the demand for Bond to be other various ethnicities.
Yeah Saint, most forget that 75% of people did not approve of the casting of Craig ten years ago, for many reasons most of which I would also apply to Elba but of course no one could look "morally superior" by defending Craig!

Kristatos wrote:
Veronica wrote:Speaking of Craig's "incredible" acting talent...where is it?
I find him to be totally inexpresive.
There was a psychological experiment carried out in Russia where subjects were shown headshots of a famous Russian silent movie star and asked what his expression conveyed. What they weren't told is that what they thought was a dozen different photos of the actor was actually the same photo 12 times. Nonetheless, they said a different emotion every time: happiness, fear and so on. I think the same phenomenon is at work in the Craigskis.
Just goes to show if you tell people something enough times they are more than willing to believe it!

Omega wrote:Opening of TLD , before the song starts Dalton is Bond. Opening of GE Brosnan is Bond. I don't have a moment where Craig becomes Bond.

They are just deluding us with the "Bond becoming Bond stuff"...they can just say Bond is not going to be Bond anymore...obviously it's not going to since Craig is just not a man for that job...
And I would say more 75% people were against Craig. I saw a poll and 98% people didn't wan Craig as Bond.

Yeah V, you may be right about that percentage, but as Brosnan said in GE "numbers were never my strong suit" . Point being the majority of people thought Craig was wrong, prompting whole websites to be created in response, yet nary a wimped of any "ism", however someone dare question whether or not Elba be appointed heir apparent to the Bond mantle and they are the second coming of Hitler.

As far as Bond becoming Bond, if they were honest and said he won't be coming back then no one would see their films as even if it is in name only people want " Bond"

And then suddenly Craig went from "Blonde" to "best since Connery" in media articles. Let's compare Casablanca to American Pie. That's the Connery vs Craig comparison to me.

I want the next Bond to be introduced so it is apparent the Craig era was a dream - a la Dallas with Bobby in the shower.

Not about black Bond, but another issue that relates to Benny's latest rant, is how some people are calling others "homophobic" for their criticisms of Sam Smith's Writing's On The Wall song. While there are people who have made hateful comments about Smith being gay, I've been seeing the "homophobic" accusations being aimed at people who just simply express why they don't care for the song. Sam Smith may be popular, but not really the right choice when it comes to Bond. Writing's On The Wall seems to be made for Smith fans more than Bond fans, which is why a lot of people don't like it. Let's remember that K.D. Lang who sang Surrender is a lesbian, and fans generally tend to prefer her song to the main Tomorrow Never Dies theme.

Overall, I think the majority of the criticisms are aimed at the song and not for the fact that Smith is gay. But it's just another example of how you constantly have to walk on eggshells these days.

I didn't know Smith was gay, and wouldn't have based on any of the comments I've read positive or negative. (Granted I'd never heard of Smith till now, and haven't read a copious amount of comments but) It just goes to show where we are as a society, "You don't like what I like, I'll find any way possible to discredit/shame you until you shut up". Don't like Idris Elba you're racist, Sam Smith's theme song isn't your cup of tea= homophobe.

Sam Smith said he didn't want to do a pop song but a song that when people hear it they will think "This is a Bond song". But the fact is that people who said they like the song were in most cases his fans not Bond fans. Bond fans mostly expressed negative opinion. I haven't heard the song as a whole but I heard small instrumentall part and a small vocal part. It just doesn't go together. From what I heard instrumental is great and rich and maybe they should have just leave it that way. We only had one instrumental theme and it is a teriffic theme. I think it is time for another one.

You can listen to the full song here.

Yes, the instrumental stuff is not bad, but it's Smith's high-pitched singing that pretty much ruins it for most people. Being four and a half minutes in length also doesn't make this whiny dirge easy to listen to either.

Heard the whole song. Well, what can I say...the lyrics and his voice...these two things don't say Bond at all.
I don't think the song as a standalone piece is bad but at times it feels a bit...sappy. As I already said the instrumental part is great and it would have made a good instrumental Bond theme.

That's true. Leaks hint it's going back to the front of movie but how knows . Mendes could put it anywhere .

I have a feeling that they're :007: going to put it in the middle of the film. Whatever tedious story they've come up this time, will stop for a sped up, shoddily rendered CGI gunbarrel. With blood that looks like someone squirted tomato ketchup on the camera lens.
