Looking back at Nemesis, Logan was one of the writers of the final chapter of original Trek films. Despite having an excellent writer, the final chapter failed miserably.

Re: Bond 23 to Open Two Weeks Earlier in UK & Ireland
For me it's definitely B. I agree with a lot of what you said, Kristatos. And that's exactly why I am of the same opinion as Bond 77: I think by the looks of things now, that this is potentially going to be even worse than QoS. And trust me, I SURE hope that won't be the case. QoS was a mockery, plain and simple. Mockery from the action point of view, for the reasons we all very well known, mockery from the point of view of Bond as a character, mockery from the point of view of plot and storytelling. I swear I can't find ONE good thing about it. Kurylenko I guess, because she's beautiful, but her character was written in such a way that, as we say in Italian "it tasted of nothing".Omega wrote:was he an excellent writer or one of the reasons it sucked?
My huge problem with Logan is that regardless of the success of the movies he penned (and most were not successful) he is the type of writer who goes all dark and turmoil. And we all know that does NOT belong to Bond at all. Sorry, I don't want a writer with that approach anywhere near Bond. Because we WILL get another QoS (or worse, especially considering he is working with Mendes, who already has that type of approach.)

Re: Bond 23 to Open Two Weeks Earlier in UK & Ireland
Well, Gladiator and The Aviator had top directors in Ridley Scott and Martin Scorcese respectively. Oliver Stone is also a top director, but I've never really understood why, his work seems strident and unsubtle to me. Normally, I'd think the combination of Logan and Mendes could have the potential for greatness. But as Alessandra says, I'm not sure a Bond film is the right vehicle for that.Bond77 wrote:[I agree with a lot of what you say here. I am with you on your doubts concerning Logan. I state I am "comfortable" with him, but I recognize that he can be inconsistent. Are we going to get the Logan who wrote Gladiator and The Aviator, or the Logan who wrote Any Given Sunday and Star Trek: Nemesis ?

Zetumer -the last lad brought in last moment to write for Bond is burying his involvement with that turkey.
I said before I'd like them to make Bond 23 giving Craig his third -they learned nothing from Quark, those involved assume it was the directors fault discounting the elements Craig among other insisted be in the movie. Craig vision and what he is capable of is not Bond, Quark is a undisputed quagmire and they are going to ramp it up to the Nth degree. It will be a massive failure on several elver and the bloom will be off Craig rose. All of the reporters/stenographers for the studios bent over backward to excuse his one stop act of a miserable curmudgeon of a Bond. After this no one will try to defend his era, the flaws will be too evident. Unfortunately he may also kill the franchise if he plays his cards right, the way the industry is right now it is a real possibility.
The moment Bond stops being lucrative the Studios are going to happily be walking away from a skinflint family who have milked them dry for 50 years.
Bond is a commodity somebody will want to pick up the pieces to relaunch it someday if the worse does come to pass. Although Quark lost the studio money, Bond is still a big feather in MGM's cap, over spending again (prod. budget + P&A) is not a mistake the can afford. They now know the Home video rights/sales with Craig in the lead they are not going to break records, if the costs are kept down and Bond 23 does modestly well -which is what I expect it to do then they might make dollar on it. Meaning the Bond series might just survive Craig and live to be great again some day. Maybe even thrive.

Can you blame him? I'm sure in a few years(if not sooner) there will be some revisionist history from people involved with QOS.Mazer Rackham wrote:Zetumer -the last lad brought in last moment to write for Bond is burying his involvement with that turkey.

Monsoon in India is usually around August September time, so filming Bond 23 should be ok if they start filming in January/February 2012.Blowfeld wrote: (Sweeney when is the Monsoon season in India?)
Mumbai is fairly decent weather then, and Delhi's best month for weather is usually February.

Ta. I was trying to remember because I believe the original story said Eon were going to try to shoot in the monsoon season at a beach area which is supposed to be very beautiful that time of year. However my guess was they'd avoid the season if possible. The Sweeney wrote:Monsoon in India is usually around August September time, so filming Bond 23 should be ok if they start filming in January/February 2012.Blowfeld wrote: (Sweeney when is the Monsoon season in India?)

I'd think they'd avoid any sort of bad weather. I'm sure there are some lovely beach areas in India, but would you want to be there during a monsoon? No, me neither.

Supposedly there is a beach there which is marvellously beautiful during monsoon. So sad we lost the original post all of the details were there.katied wrote:I'd think they'd avoid any sort of bad weather. The 23rd film in the franchise to be shot in and around the city
James Bond might well be coming to town sometime soon.
A highly-placed source informs that Bond 23, the newest film in the hugely successful franchise will be shooting in and around Mumbai.
"Director Sam Mendes recently made a hush-hush visit to the city along with production designer Terry Bamber in mid-April for the film's recce.
The movie will be shot in Mumbai and Goa during the monsoon season on a month-long schedule," reveals our source.
The crew of the film is an excited but nervous lot. They expect the shoot to be a maddening one, given Bond's fan following here.
India Take One, who also did line production for Slumdog Millionaire, are doing the production for this film as well.
ONCE BEFORE
Octopussy (1983), the 13th film in the Bond series, was shot in Agra and Udaipur. Roger Moore played Bond in the movie which had Kabir Bedi and Vijay Amritraj in the cast.
RECENT SHOOTERS
Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises (in Jodhpur on May 6 and May 7)
Ang Lee's Life Of Pi starring Irrfan Khan and Tabu shot in Pondicherry
Brad Bird's Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol starring Tom Cruise and Anil Kapoor
Michael Winterbottom's Trishna starring Frieda Pinto shot in Rajasthan and Mumbai.

Director Sam Mendes has reportedly been scouting locations for the next James Bond film in India to begin shooting as early as June.
According to an unnamed source quoted in an Indian newspaper,"[Bond 23] Director Sam Mendes made a hush-hush visit to Mumbai along with production designer Terry Bamber in mid-April. The movie will be shot in Mumbai and Goa during the monsoon season on a month-long schedule."
EON Productions, which is producing the next Bond film, would not confirm the reports, and issued a comment that "nothing has been confirmed yet."
Goa, a western resort town, was featured in a car-chase sequence in 'The Bourne Supremacy,' while Mumbai was used more recently for scenes in 'Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol.'
James Bond previously visited India in the 1983 Roger Moore vehicle 'Octopussy,' which shot in Agra and Udaipur.
The monsoon season begins in late June and last for about two months.

The Bond Brand is strong and recognized worldwide, however it has been floundering for over a decade. It should be a billion dollar outing every time bringing home $400 to 500m (gross) is not bad, when it was combined with the untold story of the revenue after the theatrical run it was decent business and for a struggling studio it was better not to rock the boat. "Better the revenue you can count on than ruining a sure thing" kind of mind set.
The once reliable Bond base is shrinking. The onslaught of youth the Craig/Bourne rebranding was suppsoed to bring never materialized in a meaningful way.

To say that the Bond franchise is floundering is an understatement. Babs and Mikey have been induldged far too long, and it is hurting the Bond franchise, for sure. Barely holding on, IMO.

I sort of got the idea of the film industry as loan sharks, they loan money to themselves to make a movie with the hope is they make that money back plus a huge profit. When that doesn't work out the start to turn the screws on other projects profit.
QOS didn't make money, $400 million dollars was spent to make it, it made $570 million and still didn't break even. When this is the kind of math being used it hard to be anything but a skeptic. The Harry Potter document we had showed amazing math. the Goblet of Fire didn't make a profit and that's a f'ing potter movie that break records and stuff the theaters!

Not so sure Bond is floundering Bond has a set image it may not be able to break to get a big enough audience to make as much money as Avatar. Not since Sean Connery and Thunderball in my book the Bond movie to beat.katied wrote:To say that the Bond franchise is floundering is an understatement. I don't know why we are always punished in this way over here. Maybe because the British film magazines never give a new Bond film a bad review. They get loads of exclusives and are always reluctant to bite the hand that feeds them. Quantum of Solace is probably the worst film ever made but it still got four out of five stars in Empire when it came out.

Would EON ever think of given Bond up? I know that the franchise was assessed a couple years ago and they came up with a figure of $1 billion or something close to that.Mazer Rackham wrote:It can thrive under anyone's leadership if they manage it smartly.
