Looking forward to Spiderman 3 next weekend Sweeney? By all accounts, the buzz is it could top 1 billion worldwide. Does Bourne 3 interest you in August, to see if Damon's spy appeal has waned? The Sweeney wrote:Looks like he does the same job as you, Skywalker......Skywalker wrote:Congrats on your 400th. Never heard of him BJ. Do you think the theme tunes have perhaps gone downhill since Goldeneye? I actually liked CC's theme tune, much better than TND, TWINE and DAD's theme songs IMO, but I'd like a return to the ballad style of the past.bjmdds wrote:With former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry's album now selling over 2 million copies, would he be someone Broccoli would consider for singing the next Bond film theme? After all, Cornell has a similar style and sound as Daughtry.

It wasn't that I didn't like it, but after a more pop based artist ala Duran Duran or Aha, Gladys Knight wouldn't be someone I would pick to sing the latest Bond title track in the late eighties. Most of the title artists were popular at the time of the films release, but Gladys Knight was not really someone who was in the pop scene at the time.bjmdds wrote:You did not like her song License to kill, one of the longer theme songs?

Daughtry finished 4th in 2006's American Idol, was very popular and has outsold the 2006 winner Taylor Hicks by a mile. His theme song is now played at the conclusion of each week's vote, and has become quite popular. Does the UK have their version of Idol, and if so, who won in 2006, 2007? If you like Cornell, you will like Daughtry, Skywalker. If a ballad is to be sung, what about Josh Groban?Skywalker wrote:Never heard of him BJ. Do you like repeat singers, ala Bassey, or a new one each film?Captain Nash wrote:It wasn't that I didn't like it, but after a more pop based artist ala Duran Duran or Aha, Gladys Knight wouldn't be someone I would pick to sing the latest Bond title track in the late eighties. Is that the guy who sang 'You raise me up'? If so he'd be a good choice.bjmdds wrote:

With reference to American Idol we used to have a version called Pop Idol which I believe spawned the American Idol version. We now have a program called the X Factor which also stars Simon Cowell and gives unknowns a platform to perform.
BTW I don't know who won.

I liked all of Shirley Bassey's Bond work, DAF the least but that's just me.bjmdds wrote:Do you like repeat singers, ala Bassey, or a new one each film?Captain Nash wrote:It wasn't that I didn't like it, but after a more pop based artist ala Duran Duran or Aha, Gladys Knight wouldn't be someone I would pick to sing the latest Bond title track in the late eighties. I can't think of anyone I would like to return, but maybe someone like Paul McCartney could do another. Or Tom Jones.

Tom Jones, 42 years removed from Thunderball, but still can belt it out, would be an interesting choice, with McCartney still going strong as well. But would Eon move backwards in time with retro artists for a Bond song for the 21st century? They should NEVER do a rap song as a Bond theme song!Captain Nash wrote:I liked all of Shirley Bassey's Bond work, DAF the least but that's just me.bjmdds wrote:Do you like repeat singers, ala Bassey, or a new one each film?Captain Nash wrote:It wasn't that I didn't like it, but after a more pop based artist ala Duran Duran or Aha, Gladys Knight wouldn't be someone I would pick to sing the latest Bond title track in the late eighties. Yes, Groban did sing that song and would be a fine choice for a traditionally classical Bond theme song. Is Pop Idol gone, and if so, was it ever popular?Skywalker wrote:Is that the guy who sang 'You raise me up'? If so he'd be a good choice.bjmdds wrote:

Yes it was, so it it's replacement show 'The X Factor'. It's too lame for my liking. It's the same old Pop cr*p. More of a Rock man myself.bjmdds wrote: Is Pop Idol gone, and if so, was it ever popular?

Well for once I agree 100% that rap has no place in a Bond film.bjmdds wrote:Tom Jones, 42 years removed from Thunderball, but still can belt it out, would be an interesting choice, with McCartney still going strong as well. Or anywhere else if it was upto me.
But singers like Tom Jones and McCartney never go out of fashion, there would be very few people who would mind if they returned to the Bond scene I'm sure.
