You are correct when you state that "Eon got swelled heads". Casino Royale received some good critical reviews and did well at the box office. Instead of churning out another routine Bond, Eon and Sony tried to make a big budget critically acclaimed masterpiece to follow Casino Royale.bjmdds wrote:TBM down to 357 USA theatres and a paltry $380,000 over the weekend. Done and Done. It quite possibly might tank in Japan as well. Bottom line, it under performed CR, and no spinning it, Eon got swelled heads over Craig and thought a blockbuster would emerge in his second film, and were proven wrong. MGM, NOT MGW, will have a HUGE say in who is Bond in the next film. There probably will be a 3 year hiatus now with these less than stellar profits. The international market was more telling than the USA markets, which did surprise me.
Quantum of Solace has not flopped. But overall it must have been very disappointing for Eon and Sony.
