`Casino Royale` features in Top 10 best selling DVDs ever

Post by stockslivevan »

As the home entertainment industry marks the tenth anniversary of DVD’s launch in the UK, charts supplied by the BVA (using data from the Official UK Chart Company), have revealed the best selling discs from the past 10 years. James Bond lands the #9 spot with his 2006 outing "Casino Royale".

Top Ten Selling DVDs over the past ten years...
1. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN – THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL
2. THE LORD OF THE RINGS - FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING
3. THE LORD OF THE RINGS – THE TWO TOWERS
4. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN – DEAD MAN’S CHEST
5. THE LORD OF THE RINGS – THE RETURN OF THE KING
6. SHREK 2
7. THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION
8. GLADIATOR
9. CASINO ROYALE
10. HARRY POTTER & THE GOBLET OF FIRE

Growth in DVD sales has been exponential. By the end of 1998, the new format had sold 200,000 discs but this rose rapidly to 4 million the following year. Now 10 years on, with DVD the established platform, BVA figures reveal a total of 248 million DVDs sold in 2007. Furthermore, the latest data from the BVA reveals that so far in 2008, an additional 63.3 million DVDs have been bought by the British public.

The continued popularity of DVD for home entertainment is clearly illustrated by the charting of Casino Royale as the ninth highest selling DVD of the last decade, a film which was only released in early 2007 and has now exceeded sales of 3.1 million units. The film also charted as the highest selling Blu-ray title in the last year.
I suppose the boycott was successful at preventing CR making it to #8.

Well I'm glad that Gladiator is in there..... but that list is strange. It's like on Sesame Street.

"Which one of these things doesn't belong?"

All of them are fluff except for The Shawshank Redemption. No matter what the list, that movie doesn't belong with the rest.

Just odd.

How Droll, Troll. And
3.1 mil is good sales in the UK? What the f**k? Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire one of the fastest selling DVD in the UK 2006 sold less than 3 million copies in two years? I don't believe this report, where is Finding Nemo?
BS about being the best selling Blu-ray, not possible, there were bigger Blu-ray sellers in the last two months of 2007 with Spider-man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean At Worlds End. Besides the blu-rays sales dont account for anything right now. No more than UMD sales do, bet CR was at the top of that list.
There were other reports that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Shrek the Third and Transformers, sold very strongly in the UK.

I don't doubt CR sold well in the UK but world wide it sold less the DAD which had over 16 million initial release 8 million for the US and 8 million Europe, all of it sold very fast according to MGM along with the video tape edition.

The Bourne Ultimatum and Simpsons Movie did their numbers in less than 20 days, not the 292 day CR had.

So that's your defense? "My movie did better than yours"? CR was still successful in its own right, meaning the boycott was an utter failure.
