Jacob Elordi, who was on the Amazon shortlist, is also getting a lot of attention right now. He's playing the Creature in Guillermo Del Toro's Frankenstein and Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights opposite Margot Robbie. I'm not sure whether that's a plus or a minus in terms of his playing Bond. Neither is a franchise movie, and so shouldn't affect his availability, but they may mean he's too big for Bond. Plus, Frankenstein's Creature playing Bond? The jokes practically write themselves.

Hi everyone, I’m new here and just catching up on all the discussions…
Not sure if anyone else feels like some of the casting choices for Bond lately are really unpredictable. ,
Do you think this will affect the upcoming films or is it just fan overthinking?

Welcome to the forum, datmate. An Amazon shortlist of 3 has already been released - Jacob Elordi, Harris Dickinson and Tom Holland. It's also been reported that Scott Rose-Marsh has screen tested. Holland appears to have already ruled himself out, so it's down to Elordi, Dickinson and Rose-Marsh. There may be other candidates we don't know about yet, but my gut instinct tells me that it's likely to be one of those three, rather than fan favourites like Henry Cavill or Theo James. I haven't seen enough of any of their work to have an informed opinion on which of them would make the best Bond.

BJ, are you using a VPN? This site hates them and I must turn mine off to log in.

That makes sense. I think Goldeneye changed the settings, because a lot of the bots and trolls that infest this site use them.

I am logging on with Safari or Google Chrome all the time. It only did that the other day and then it stopped and I changed NOTHING. Sometimes this website goes off kilter for unknown reasons. Where did newbie Datmate go?

RIP Robert Redford. As I think I've said on here before, when reading Fleming, I always imagine Felix Leiter to look like Out Of Africa/Indecent Proposal-era Redford.

Coming as part of a new franchise-wide report from Variety, which sees the outlet present a “scorecard” regarding the popularity of some of the biggest franchises, including the MCU, Star Wars, and the DCU, and in which Bond earned “the highest scores of the group,” it’s revealed that we won’t find out who will play the new 007 until 2026 :!: :Bonk: If that already seems like an agonizingly long wait, hold onto something, because the report also states that the next James Bond movie, which is now all set to be helmed by Dune’s Denis Villeneuve, will not hit theaters until 2028 :!: :hair:

In a recent interview, Steven Knight revealed that he's writing the 26th James Bond film with no actor in mind. He was vague about the details of the still very early project, stating that all would be revealed once he started writing and that he couldn't discuss the upcoming feature further. Knight was tapped to write the next 007 movie back in July 2025, and he still promises a gripping Bond story that's "stronger and bolder" than what we've seen before.

I've been saying all along that they wouldn't cast Bond until a script was in place. News of a further delay is most unwelcome, but at least it feels like things are moving now. It's not like the inertia of the EON years. If the Amazon buyout had happened immediately after NTTD was released, the film would probably be out by now. Though a 2028 release date might actually be beneficial, as it gives everyone enough time to forget about NTTD. It will feel more like a relaunch, in the way that Goldeneye did after 6 years.

I've already given my reasons on here why I don't think Jacob Elordi will be Bond. But if I'm wrong, I wonder if the announcement will be timed to coincide with the release of his Wuthering Heights around Valentine's Day. Particularly if the movie is a hit and launches him to heartthrob status with the ladeez.
