Where was that? As an interesting aside, in the USA this weekend, Forster's The Kite Runner almost TRIPLED the box office of Craig's The Golden Compass, now grossing only $68 million in the USA. The UK is approaching $50 million to help salvage the international box office revenue as well. They were only released one week apart.

Interesting to know, but still irrelevant to what will happen to Bond 22. The name `James Bond' is the big seller - not Forster, or even Craig for that matter.bjmdds wrote:Where was that? It is irrelevant to the USA, because Bond sells in the US, not Craig.bjmdds wrote:Not irrelevant Sweenster to the USA FUTURE marketability of TBM in November though. Craig ,simply put, has not done well here. The question is how much higher can your UK fellow moviegoers exceed CR?
If Craig really is that unknown in the US, why did CR do so well over there at the BO? Surely no one would have turned up, according to your theory....

My point exactly! Pierce Brosnan, the most successful Bond in recent times, and after 4 films, raked in only 2 million more than the unknown Craig, who supposedly everyone in the US doesn't like.Kristatos wrote:It sold 2 million tickets fewer than DAD....The Sweeney wrote:If Craig really is that unknown in the US, why did CR do so well over there at the BO? It should have been 80 million fewer, according to bj's theory.....

Controversial hype=ticket sales. Less hype, now cat out of the bag, no controversy=
It is my contention that the negative hype/press that surrounded Craig as the new Bond with this new direction GREATLY increased the box office in the USA, far beyond what it would have done. The international market is it's own independent entity. TBM will NOT outgross CR in the USA Sweeney, and I cannot see how it can outgross what it did even in the UK, for that amount was unprecedented there and Harry Potter will be in the mix as well.

Guess we'll all know, come November. Question is, if it is more successful than CR, will people on here then acknowledge that Craig is now a successful Bond?bjmdds wrote:Controversial hype=ticket sales. That'd be quite a feat, considering DAD only sold 27.6 million tickets (and CR 25.4 million). Even Thunderball didn't sell 80 million tickets in the US.The Sweeney wrote:It should have been 80 million fewer, according to bj's theory.....

TBM>CR= worldwide acceptance. TBM<CR= the world has had enough of the 'experiment'.The Sweeney wrote:Guess we'll all know, come November. There will be fewer tickets sold in the USA for the Quantum Of Solace than were sold for CR Sweeney. I just don't see this storyline, with Bond 'kicking ass' to baddies and a non-eventful villain, as he deals with his inner emotions over Vesper betraying him, as great material for the public to be enthused over, factoring in a female side-kick such as Yeoh in TND.The Sweeney wrote:I guess I was exaggerating somewhat......Kristatos wrote:That'd be quite a feat, considering DAD only sold 27.6 million tickets (and CR 25.4 million). Why would a female sidekick hurt ticket sales? Didn't do TND any harm that I can see.bjmdds wrote:There will be fewer tickets sold in the USA for the Quantum Of Solace than were sold for CR Sweeney. As for ticket sales, I'm going to refrain from making predictions. Saying things like "There will be fewer tickets sold in the USA for the Quantum Of Solace than were sold for CR" as if it were a sure thing can leave a person with egg on his face. You might be right, but unless you have a TARDIS stashed away somewhere, we won't know that for sure until around March or April of 2009, when QOS's cinema run ends.

The gang at MI6 did not seem kind to Brosnan's side kick in TND so why should they want this now?Kristatos wrote:Why would a female sidekick hurt ticket sales? Because we hope they don't undermine the sidekick. Too many times the sidekicks would always be in danger and of course Bond will save them as opposed to the other way around. Hell, Casino Royale is the first movie since Thunderball that I can recall that had Bond actually being saved by someone other than himself.bjmdds wrote:The gang at MI6 did not seem kind to Brosnan's side kick in TND so why should they want this now?Kristatos wrote:Why would a female sidekick hurt ticket sales? But TND was a missed opportunity and hated for better reasons other than the sidekick (DAD has that), while QOS has yet to hit theaters.

You want Bond films where he is in need of being saved I see. A Bond film where his inner psyche is explored ,in an environment where he needs someone to save him with an M who 'mothers and molds' him into what he could become. To me, this 'ain't' Bond. Is it to you Stocks? Will you really look forward to these situations?stockslivevan wrote:Because we hope they don't undermine the sidekick. No, only occasionally. It gets old when he seems to only depend on himself and a gadget. There should be balance.bjmdds wrote:You want Bond films where he is in need of being saved I see.
What's wrong with that? Should Bond remain a cartoon character forever?A Bond film where his inner psyche is explored
Ocassionally, you're looking to deep to find my "ideal" Bond film BJ.in an environment where he needs someone to save him
I can see her being an aspect, but not the whole reason.with an M who 'mothers and molds' him into what he could become.
Too bad for you.To me, this 'ain't' Bond.
If executed the right way yes. Would you still oppose EON treating Bond like a human being if an actor you favored was in the role? Once again, that's the vibe I am getting. You want Craig to fail at all costs by quality and financially. Why not just hope for something positive instead of wishing for something bad to happen? Is it to you Stocks? Will you really look forward to these situations?
