It was MGW's idea, apparently.bjmdds wrote:You did not appreciate the genius in that storyline MP? Broccoli thought long and hard with that concept.kater23 wrote: Thu Jun 20, 2024 11:45 pm We need to get away from the Austin Powers stuff, like having Blofeld being Bond’s foster brother PASS.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Its unfortunate that MGW wanted the connection between Blofeld and Bond. Quite ill conceived. But it seems that the development of that script had way too many cooks in the kitchen.
Sony had a ton of people involved (which is fair since they'd be marketing and distributing), but they should have chosen two of their top people, three tops.
I quite liked an earlier idea that Blofeld and White met in the French Foreign Legion (I think it was the FFL), and they were abandoned on a desolate island where Blofeld and White commited acts of cannibalism to stay alive. What a thing to share with one, and this twisted history may not exactly be Fleming, but it's in the ball park.
Far better than foster brothers.
And I remember reading another version of the script where, instead of the drilling in the head, Bond, Madeleine and Blofeld have a card game that I thought worked (the card game was civil, but the subtext of their conversation was violent).
The torture scene in Spectre, unfortunately, made little to no sense. Nothing happened. Bond was supposed to lose his memory (and I assume become a vegetable to a degree), and it certainly looked painful, but, when all was said and done, Bond popped to his feet, shot baddies from hundreds of yards away, and blew up the compound.
Truly lazy writing (which, even with some great writers on board, has been a sin that pops up every now and again in the series's history).

I hate to say this but I would much rather cannibalism than some lame plot twist. Though I can picture the objections from other segments of the fandom.

Fleming always had a sense of the twisted and horrific. He never shied away from it, and I think that’s what makes Bond’s villains so unique.kater23 wrote: Fri Jun 21, 2024 8:37 pm I hate to say this but I would much rather cannibalism than some lame plot twist. I’m with you Kater. I think the twisted nature of cannibalism is closer to Fleming compared to the foster brother angle which was pretty lame

Maybe it would have flown back in the day.tell but not show.It..the implication of it moreso. It would have been shocking..now,with how movies are trying to be shocking for shocking’s sake, not so much.
Fleming’s books are so much a product of their time that the early movies(and the books too) need to come with content warnings. Not sure how feel about that but it’s possible to google and find out everything about the books/films(even the things that might be a but unsavory)

You're certainly correct: it's too gruesome to show. If anything do it as a flashback, but cut away during the nitty-gritty. But this backstory, whether relayed as a story, or shown in some kind of flashback (I think the last film did well in this regard, opening the film with a flashback that leaned into horror), it's a better story than the "He's everywhere! Blah blah blah..." monologue.kater23 wrote: Sat Jun 22, 2024 12:15 am Maybe it would have flown back in the day.tell but not show.It..the implication of it moreso. It would have been shocking..now,with how movies are trying to be shocking for shocking’s sake, not so much.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
There has been intense speculation about who could take over the role in the build up to the untitled 26th film, with Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill and James Norton among those linked to all things 007. Amid claims that a British actor had been formally offered the part, it was falsely reported that Aaron Taylor-Johnson had been cast, with more suggestions that Taron Egerton is now the favorite. While fans are desperately waiting for the star to be unveiled, casting director Debbie McWilliams shed light on exactly what producer Barbara Broccoli is looking for in her next action lead. Speaking to Metro.co.uk before the release of No Time To Die, Debbie McWilliams – who has been in charge of casting every Bond film since GoldenEye in 1995 – opened up about how the star-studded line-ups are shaped. ‘They have to be extremely charismatic, fit and prepared for their lives to change,’ she told us. ‘It’s not everybody who wants that kind of stardom.' Lifting the lid on how the casting process works on such a huge production, Debbie shared that the auditions are kept completely under wraps – even down to the material possible stars see beforehand. ‘We’re all very discreet and we give nothing away, and we let nothing out of our hands,’ she continued. ‘The audition process is quite different from any other film that I work on, in that we never, ever, ever use the script that’s being shot. ‘We always use an old script and take scenes that are either similar, or will give an impression or an idea of how the person will perform. Just to give us an idea on screen of what they sound like, what they look like.' https://metro.co.uk/2024/06/22/james-bo ... -21073184/

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
These people have very short memories, and/or they have a script they’re so used to saying, but we know that Craig audition used several scenes, including the “I’m the money” from Casino Royale (it’s right there in the doc, Becoming James Bond). And I’m not sure if this is just further myth-making, but the audition process she’s describing is pretty standard, so….bjmdds wrote: Tue Jun 25, 2024 2:58 pm There has been intense speculation about who could take over the role in the build up to the untitled 26th film, with Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill and James Norton among those linked to all things 007. I think there's a bit of bait and switch in this article. It starts out talking about the casting of Bond specifically. and then gradually shades into talking about the casting for the Bond films in general. From what I understand, while Debbie McWilliams oversees the casting of all the other roles, the casting of Bond himself ls left to the Broccowilsons, though I'm sure McWilliams is consulted.

Yes, from my understanding, there's a team at EoN who are part of the spit-balling process (scripts, casting, etc); McWilliams is the point person for casting, the individual that agents can reach out to, especially during what's to be expected to be a cattle call (before they dwindle the top prospects down to a few).Kristatos wrote: Tue Jun 25, 2024 7:38 pm I think there's a bit of bait and switch in this article. She plays an important role, but, the final decision will ultimately go to the bosses (once again, pretty standard for films of this size).

OK, but people have told me in the past that they don't want to read about politics on this forum. Keeping it in its own section allows those people to opt out, while letting the people who are interested talk about it to their heart's content.

Maybe Broccoli is waiting to see who wins the Presidency so she can have her writers use that in some form in the plot.

Don't worry MP, the die has been cast in people's minds by now. The question remains at how much longer will Broccoli wait for any announcement in 2024?
