George Lazenby was
a very good Bond. It is a shame that his career did not take off, but OHMSS was the best bond film I have watched.

But Lazenby was really Good-looking in a very handsome way. He was tall, 6ft 2 ins, just like Mcgoohan but Lazenby was really underrated wasn't he.
I personally feel that Lazenby was more of a Bond than Brosnon, who is a glorified male model type.

I wish Lazenby would have stayed. At least he tried to play James Bond where Roger Moore had to change the character to hide his acting limitations. Lazenby then would have grown with the role well into the 70s and then you'd get Dalton for the 80s.
My Bond Timeline
Sean Connery (1962-1967)
George Lazenby (1969-1979)
Timothy Dalton (1981-1995)

How can you criticise Moore for acting limitations then praise the mighty oak himself Lazenby.

I just think some fans are way to harsh on Rog. He played to his strenghts for the majority of time (humour/lighthearted), but when the situation arose I feel he adapted extremely well to difficult storyline pieces.stockslivevan wrote:Because I found Lazenby more convincing as a OO-Agent and in handling the role than Roger could. Moore went the wrong direction while Lazenby stuck to the books and could have improved throughout the films. But we'll never know. It sounds like a better alternative after Connery for me.
John Glen, showed that Rog could handle the tense scenes when required.

Yeah, it's terrible when an actor has to completely change the character of James Bond in order to suit his performancestockslivevan wrote:At least he tried to play James Bond where Roger Moore had to change the character to hide his acting limitations.

I knew one of you would jump on that but alas, that was always the intention before Craig stepped in.Kristatos wrote:Yeah, it's terrible when an actor has to completely change the character of James Bond in order to suit his performancestockslivevan wrote:At least he tried to play James Bond where Roger Moore had to change the character to hide his acting limitations.

However for Moore, there is no balance. He's a charming man, but there's nothing rough about him. All charm and no danger. I find Craig charming in certain scenes, but he certainly is more dangerous.

You can reinvent the character, but not change it so drastically to the point where the character has lost that edge. Connery was cool and dangerous. Lazenby was naive yet dangerous. Moore was a nancy boy. Dalton was a gentleman that was brutal. Brozza was a smooth operator. Craig is charming yet a bulldozer.

LALD was one of Moore's best as Bond. He wasn't too much of a 'nancy boy' ... he brought his lighter personality, but still he approached Bond asa more dangerous character thatn (most) of the latter films. Plus, LALD had that excellent score with plenty of the Theme in the background. Example, "My name is Bond ...." And of course, one of the best Bond girls and some of the best villains and henchmen.

Danger and. Roger Moore do not work together in the same sentence unless the word "not " is in it.Commander 0077 wrote:but still he approached Bond asa more dangerous character thatn (most) of the latter films.

What I find not so dangerous about him is that his personality is way too light to suggest any kind of menace besides bedding women who are old enough to be his granddaughter.

I think he would have been more suitable as one of the pimps in LALD.

As with Brosnan, I thought that made his more ruthless moments, like the killing of Fekkesh in TSWLM or Locque in FYEO, more shocking. Craig's Bond looks like he'd slot you for spilling his pint, but I think it's more disturbing (in a good way) seeing Moore's or Brosnan's Bond killing in cold blood.stockslivevan wrote:What I find not so dangerous about him is that his personality is way too light to suggest any kind of menace besides bedding women who are old enough to be his granddaughter.

I agree.........LALD was one of Moores best Bond films............the film had an even tone throughout, and is still very well remembered by people.Commander 0077 wrote:LALD was one of Moore's best as Bond. It also had a light hearted touch with J.W.Pepper...........some memorable

LALD is my favourite Bond film, mainly down to Moore, who is quite simply fantastic.

This is true. If a guy looks like a loony tune, you're on guard. If a a Craig Bond walks into a nightclub, people will think he's a henchman and their guard will be up. But if a Moore or Brosnan walks in, they just think Hm, nice gentleman. Then the speargun to the chest! "The quality of deadliness" (or is that quantum of deadliness?) can be carried to far. Connery at least could pull off the suave bit, and sit down at a million-pound limit bacarrat table without "ew, he doesn't belong here!"Kristatos wrote:As with Brosnan, I thought that made his more ruthless moments, like the killing of Fekkesh in TSWLM or Locque in FYEO, more shocking.
