They both approached the role relatively seriously. Who did you prefer?

TD lacked the humour which is something I like as a Bond fan. Apart from that he put in solid performances and I enjoyed his films, so he gets my vote.carl stromberg wrote:They both approached the role relatively seriously. Who did you prefer?

Dalton. It seems grossly unfair to me that he was panned for bringing the same serious approach to the character that Craig is now being praised for. I guess it's all in the timing. But, unlike Craig, Dalton actually looked like Bond. I have one of the Titan collections of the Bond newspaper strips that predate the movies by some years, and I am struck by how much the Bond in those strips looks like Dalton.

Tied at present.
Dalton was a fantastic Bond and I was sad to see him leave the role after only two films.
Craig has impressed thus far, and I look forward to Bond 22, 23 and hopefully 24.
As mentioned before they have both approached the role more seriously and imo as written. The Fleming Bond has a sense of humour, as do Dalton and Craig. Though they both underplayed the humour, but it's still there. Bond is a government assassin. In some of the films he's a playboy come light comedian. This is not James Bond.
Though I can accept all the actor in the role have there strengths and weaknesses.

I prefer Dalton. With no doubt he looked better and in spite of seriousness he had some charm which can't be said about Craig. But the main reason are his films as such - well scripted, well casted. Especially LTK, with one of the best villains in the franchise history - Sanchez.

Definitely Dalton. I was always sorry that he didn't get to do more films, but I'm glad that he was able to take the character in a different direction than his predecessor. I do feel though that the failure of his films to catch on with a larger audience is what kept the producers from giving Brosnan more serious scripts, ironically enough. if Daniel Craig looked like Timothy Dalton, he still wouldn't project the charm necessary to portray James Bond.

That's what I was going to say. Timothy Dalton looks like James Bond. He is also much more charming and charismatic than Craig.if Daniel Craig looked like Timothy Dalton, he still wouldn't project the charm necessary to portray James Bond.
I would have liked to have seen Dalton's wonderful interpretation of Bond more. Hopefully Craig will emulate Dalton....and make two Bond movies.
