Next unofficial James Bond

Post by FormerBondFan »

So far, we have 3 unofficial James Bonds: Barry Nelson, David Niven, and Sean Connery (since he did NSNA). If we have another unofficial Bond movie, who would you pick as the legendary superspy?

We won't have another unofficial Bond movie. Ever. But if we did, my position would be the same as the official Bond films. I don't have just one candidate that I'm rooting for as Bond. I think there are several actors who would make a good Bond: Jackman, Worthington, Cavill, Purefoy....

I didn't forget. Clive Owen is too old, too wooden and doesn't want to be James Bond.

Bale is too big of a name to be the 4th unofficial Bond.

Last talk I recall was that in Eons opinion McClory might be able to film some place like Australia but he wouldn't be able to distribute it so no studio would touch it. At lot has happened since then, supposedly somebody bought McClory's rights after he died and rumors they were going to make three movies were floating around on-line not that long ago. At this point I doubt we'd see another remake of Thunderball although who knows with Hollywood.

If Craig gets canned (still a big IF at this point) I could see him being approached for a unofficial Bond Movie, Lazenby was considered at one point (the 1980's and again in the 1990s), I'm sure Brozza would be considered as well. Thing about an unofficial movie is they would not be as likely to cast an unknown as Bond because of the stigma that they aren't really making Bond movies. Although someone like Jackman might do in the role since a lot of people around the world think of him for the role, same as they did for Brozza after he was knee-capped by NBC losing Bond in the 1980s.

Owen is too old to play Bond.Love a lot of the stuff he's done, but not Bond.

I would love to see a non-EON, NSNA(but not crap) Bond film. Better that than what we *might* get after the hiatus, given the right writer and director. Why not get Peter Morgan to write it?Just a suggestion!

Yeah, Sony did, hence killing any possibility of ever seeing another non-EON Bond film.

A sure fire way to get bums on seats would be to really have something really different.
So with that in mind, and as it's un-official, then cast a coloured actor as Bond.
Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx even Cuba Gooding jnr. All of them are good actors, and it might be interesting to see if a Black Bond would be accepted.
Just a thought.
Besides it's never going to happen.

A lot of people hate that idea.. "it's the PCing of James Bond", etc. etc.

....However, I think it's something EON should consider.

Sorry Katie but I'm to much of a purist to accept a Black James Bond.
That's not racist, I just don't want Bond to be played by anyone else other than that of what Fleming described (or as near as possible) in the role.
No doubt there are many talented ethnic actors who could play Bond well, but I wouldn't be to pleased if an American were cast as Bond.
It's just not cricket.
To often the movie world tries to change a character, so much that in the end we're left with a complete mess.
Much like the way many on here see Craig as Bond I suppose.
No ethnic, gay or female Bonds for me I'm afraid.

OK, maybe that's thinking TOO outside the box..but thinking outside the box may be a survival tact EON have to adopt to stay afloat and not turn people off of the Bond films(not like they haven't already).

Are you sure? I wasn't aware of that. Far as I knew they only owned CR, however if they bought McClory right from his heirs then we will see another unofficial Bond film some time. Now if they were to get their grubby hands on MGM half the franchise they could conceivably give themselves a license to print money and run their own series out side EONs control as well as a half interest in Eons official series.

There was a rumor in 2006 that McClory was trying to make Thunderball again, casting was supposedly looking at the runners up to Craig and Brozza was in the mix of course. I think Sony was involved with that as well.

No, I'm not sure, and I can't remember where I read it. From what I remember, though, Sony bought the rights to NSNA and wanted to launch their own rival Bond franchise starring Liam Neeson. The deal with MGM was in order to give them part of the rights to the existing franchise to prevent that from happening. I did read on here quite recently that for the first time in history, the same company now owns the rights to the EON films, CR67 and NSNA, but I can't remember which company that was.

No ofense but I just can't see a gay Bond.Nope.This is coming from one of the most pro-gay(though I'm straight!) people you'll meet(but I respect other people's opposing opinion on the matter..to a point.)Of all the possible things they could do, that would be the worst. It would actually turn people off of Bond.

I think the "Craig wants a gay Bond" thing was only ever just a silly tabloid rumour - possibly started by Spynovelfan?

MGM. MGM Bought NSNA in 1997 and was traded CR for Spider-man when Sony sold McClory down the river.
The court case there it was ruled McClory waited too long to sue MGW lied under oath and was essentially hiding his mother from the court. She could have testified for McClory or at least that is what McClory believed. These Hollywood court cases are crooked as any good law drama would have us believe and almost futile to fight unless the party suing has powerful enough backers and enough cash to see it through.
