It's been rather overshadowed by the deaths of Patrick Swayze and Keith Floyd, but Troy Kennedy Martin has died of liver cancer, aged 77. In case you don't recognize the name, he was the creator of Z-Cars, the cop show that launched the directing career of Ridley Scott, among others; and writer of The Italian Job (1969 version), Kelly's Heroes and Edge of Darkness (the latter directed by one M. Campbell Esq.)
He also wrote many episodes of The Sweeney, another cop show created by his brother Ian, from which our own Sweeney got his user name and avatar.

He did some great work
I listened to an interview with his brother Ianon Radio 4 several months ago where Ian talked about Troy. It's here if anyone wants to have a listen.
