What I find not so dangerous about him is that his personality is way too light to suggest any kind of menace besides bedding women who are old enough to be his granddaughter.

As with Brosnan, I thought that made his more ruthless moments, like the killing of Fekkesh in TSWLM or Locque in FYEO, more shocking. Craig's Bond looks like he'd slot you for spilling his pint, but I think it's more disturbing (in a good way) seeing Moore's or Brosnan's Bond killing in cold blood.

This is true. If a guy looks like a loony tune, you're on guard. If a a Craig Bond walks into a nightclub, people will think he's a henchman and their guard will be up. But if a Moore or Brosnan walks in, they just think Hm, nice gentleman. Then the speargun to the chest! "The quality of deadliness" (or is that quantum of deadliness?) can be carried to far. Connery at least could pull off the suave bit, and sit down at a million-pound limit bacarrat table without "ew, he doesn't belong here!"

Bond in the novels is a tough customer - in Moonraker it is stated that Bond is a bit out of place in Blades as I recall. But, he is supposed to be handsome and suave and able to blend into upper class circles - Fleming's world. Can Daniel Craig do that? He does not look the part. He did not act the part either, adopting that strange Bond personality in Casino Royale. Perhaps he can be a bit suaver in the next movie. Edward Fox, who knew Ian Fleming and moves in the same circles, thought Craig was wrong for Bond.

No, he wasn't playing Bond, he was playing XXXX in Layer Cake 2. And it's funny how a lot of the people who slam Moore for allegedly playing Bond exactly the same way that he played The Saint are praising Craig to high heaven for it.
