Gary Dubin, a former child actor whose credits include The Partridge Family, The AristoCats and Diamonds Are Forever, has died. He was 57. Dubin died Saturday in Burbank of bone cancer. In Diamonds Are Forever (1971), Dubin is seen as the boy who wins a stuffed animal (with smuggled jewels inside) at a carnival and has it snatched from him by Jill St. John. Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Where's our FBF? Read this: 'Yesterday came the surprising news that Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them wasn’t just the start of a new trilogy, but the first in what will become a five-film series from J.K Rowling. That’s rather ambitious for a spin-off franchise that hasn’t proven itself to audiences yet, but surely the Harry Potter fanbase is strong enough to support it. If anything it’s a vote of confidence from Warner Bros. Pictures in the new direction for the wizarding world. But this new journey will come with at least one familiar character. During the fan event for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them that took place in London, J.K. Rowling talked about what the future of the franchise looks like, and she mentioned a certain Hogwarts professor who could be a big part of it. Then director David Yates seemed to confirm that this character will indeed appear in the first film. According to BBC News, during yesterday’s fan even in London, J.K. Rowling said, “We do talk about Dumbledore and Grindelwald,” implying that the relationship between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald, which was detailed in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (primarily the book), could prove to be a key part of the franchise. That shouldn’t come as a surprise since the latter dark wizard was mentioned by name in the most recent trailer for Fantastic Beasts. Adding more fuel to the fire is director David Yates (already set to be at the helm of the first Fantastic Beasts sequel arriving in 2018), who had this to say about bringing Dumbledore and Grindelwald into the fray more prominently: "We can’t tell you too because we’d have to kill you all, but we do mention Dumbledore and he features in a wonderful scene between Colin [Farrell] and Eddie [Redmayne]. Grindelwald does feature in the background and is going to become a much more prominent feature moving forward." -------------------FIVE films will now be done! If this spinoff does 80% of what Potter did, it will be HUGE! FBF, you now have your NEW franchise to cheer for and see 5 times each!

I have the Cursed Child book/play...Haven't read it yet though.Seems like from some of the reviews I've been reading *it* might be the Phantom Menace of the Harry Potter franchise.

Very unlikely and The Phantom Menace did well at the box office, didn't it? If they are planning on a "pentalogy" they must feel they have another winner!FormerBondFan wrote:I hope it's not the Phantom Menace of Harry Potter.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
BJ, considering the way you freaked out over the brief shot of Sulu holding hands with his husband in Star Trek Beyond, I really don't think these films are for you. The relationship between Dumbledore and Grindlewald apparently plays a large part in the plot.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I don't really like the phrase "politically correct", as I find it too vague to be useful. But it was recently revealed that Grindlewald is the main antagonist in these films, and that young Dumbledore also features. Given that we already know from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that the two of them are former lovers turned enemies, it seems reasonable to assume that this is going to drive the plot in some way.

FBAWTFT should be a film concentrating on the wizard world, not sexuality. I hope it does NOT stray off course

The Phantom Menace did well at the box office, but you missed the point here as it got a mixed reception among viewersbjmdds wrote:Very unlikely and The Phantom Menace did well at the box office, didn't it? Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Err...gonna put my writer's hat on and say that a screenplay should be able to "concentrate on" more than one thing. JK Rowling's intricate world-building is an important part of the Potterverse's appeal, it's what distinguished the Harry Potter books from the gazillion other "boy wizard attends wizarding school" stories that preceded it. But a film needs more than just world-building, it needs a plot as well, and characters with motivations. "Discovery of the dishonor of a loved one" is one of the 36 Dramatic Situations in Georges Polti's famous book of that name. I see no reason why it shouldn't be used as the basis for these films.bjmdds wrote:FBAWTFT should be a film concentrating on the wizard world, not sexuality. I hope it does NOT stray off course

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Films need a plot? Not for Craig apparently
You can include as many outrageous ideas and plot lines as long as the movie is entertaining to watch. Oliver Stones JFK is so full of it, but even people who think it crazy enjoy watching it.
If they make this potter world movie too much about their gay Gandalf they will ruin it, if it's done as part of the plot as a mater of fact and not dwelled on it might be ok.
I'm tired of the over sexualization of movies in general, not the scantly clad women , I'll never tire of them, I'm tried of the hook up of the leads. So much of the story is centered around the love life of the main characters and when they finally get to have sex. Sometime they package it as when they fall in love. It's the formula Hollywood has for maximizing attendance giving each sex, sexual orientation, something to watch instead of the story.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I should stress that a lot of this is just supposition on my part. Given the family-friendly nature of these films, my guess is that we won't see scenes of Dumbledore and Grindlewald bumping uglies. It'll probably be like the relationship between Ben Hur and Massala in the 1959 version of the film (removed, incidentally, in the recent remake, which made them brothers - so much for modern Hollywood political correctness!). They couldn't come right out and say it in those days, so it had to be concealed with ambiguous references to them having been "close in every way" and suchlike.
