Re: SPECTRE box office
I really don't know. I suppose it could be a last-ditch try to get the figure to $200 million in the US and Canada. That seems an awful lot of effort for not much additional return.Omega wrote:I'm just trying to fathom why it has any theaters. SPECTRE box office
My guess either sony had a set number of days to play it or a $200 million clause

Re: SPECTRE box office
SPECTRE is back down to 92 theaters in the US and Canada following the "buy one, get one free" ticket promotion at AMC theaters. (Was 340 last week.) Estimated Friday: $5,000. Total $199,829,527.

Re: SPECTRE box office
This is so weird. Why keep it in theaters, got to be either attendance number clause or hitting $200 million that's the goal.

Surely there must be limits to such a clause, though. I mean, what if it had really underperformed? Done LTK or TMWTGG numbers? Would they still keep it in theatres for years, hoping to crack $200 million?Omega wrote:This is so weird. that's true I suppose. It makes no sense keeping it the theater unless there some ulterior motive, it may be as simple as contracted for a certain number of weeks in theaters but that doesn't make sense as the DVD is out and was pretty much set date for release when SP was in theaters.Kristatos wrote:Surely there must be limits to such a clause, though. It makes no sense except Sony is having a fall out with the EON and MGM and has some sort of clause.
as distributor got 8% of the gross and were only going to make real money if it did skyfall numbers. I think one place said if SP did SF number they'd only make $35 million.
Maybe the us market had a threshold clause that was so low nobody thought it would be a problem because no bond film in 20 years failed to reach it.

Re: SPECTRE box office
Phony numbers now for it this week. EON must be sending their staff to the theaters multiple times because this week the numbers are higher with much fewer screens. So obvious now.

I thought someone said that it had finally dropped out of theatres altogether?bjmdds wrote:Phony numbers now for it this week. EON must be sending their staff to the theaters multiple times because this week the numbers are higher with much fewer screens. So obvious now.

It was me until I saw they waited 5 days to post Monday-Thursday's totals. It's all fraud now.Kristatos wrote:I thought someone said that it had finally dropped out of theatres altogether?bjmdds wrote:Phony numbers now for it this week. Re: SPECTRE box office
I don't know if it's a contractual obligation or point of pride but Sony seems determined to get the $200 million.Omega wrote:any idea why it's still in release here?Napoleon Solo wrote:SPECTRE is in US release for another week. The theater count is down to nine from 16.

Skyfall was in release in the U.S. for 108 days, according to Box Office Mojo:
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa ... bond23.htm
SPECTRE, as of today, March 18, has been in release for 134 days.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?pa ... bond24.htm
A footnote. On that Skyfall daily chart, it gives the cumulative total as $304,164,760. But on the site's Skyfall page, it lists the domestic as $304,360,277. But when I did spot checks of March and April weekends in 2013, I saw no sign that Skyfall was in release. So I don't know how to explain that difference.
