I'm still here. I'm not going to stop anyone from seeing SPECTRE. Instead, I'm allowing them to because they might as well accept anybody or anything as Bond once DC retires.English Agent wrote:I noticed that FBF had suddenly stopped posting as wellbjmdds wrote:FBF has disappeared since ECT-TRE opened in the UK. I'll probably see Spectre. Once. I've got a good(really new!) movie theater. Seeing a movie in style.

re: profits from movies.
The Wall Street Journal had this story about MGM's search for a new Bond distribution deal.
http://www.wsj.com/articles/pursuit-of- ... 1446156132
Some highlights:
But not much of the profit has stayed with the studio (Sony), thanks to what Sony’s former movie chief described in an email leaked last year by hackers as “a one-sided deal with MGM.” Sony made just $57 million on “Skyfall,” according to another document released by the hackers—a small sum for a movie with such a huge box-office performance.
MGM made about $175 million while Danjaq, headed by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, made $109 million, according to the same document.
Under its current agreement with MGM, Sony funds half of the Bond movies’ production budgets, as well as the advertising costs, and then gets 25% of the profit after recouping those costs. MGM keeps the rest of the profit while Danjaq separately receives a hefty portion of the films’ revenues.
Along with its disproportionate share of the profits, MGM retains television and home-video rights.
In the same leaked document, a Sony executive projected that if “Spectre” were to cost $250 million to produce and repeat the same box office as “Skyfall,” Sony’s profit would be $38 million.
The budget for “Spectre” is just under $250 million, said a person close to the movie, compared with $209 million for “Skyfall.”

Happy Halloween all!
I've got my Bond costume all picked out, I went to the Sears department store and found the smallest suit in the boy's section I could fit in, then topped it off with a blond chimp mask, just like the one Craig's stunt men wore in Spectre! My foster brother is going to follow me around in a Nehru jacket, telling me how he "authored all my pain", and finally me crazy uncle who hasn't bathed or shaved in weeks will also follow along babbling about "kites in hurricanes". I think it will be very authentic!

Child in Batman custom "Trick or treat!"
Man in blond chimp mask hoarding the candy bowl "I don't give a f**k!"
Foster brother "Pain! I authored it! I'm a regular Edgar Allan Poe only happier!"
Crazy Uncle "The kites in a tree Charlie Brown! Where is your Great pumpkin now?"
Sam Smith continues to quietly croon in the background "But I feel like a storm is coming"
Child slowly backs away later contacting the police to tell them about a creepy, yet gritty realistic haunted house that bored the bejesus out of him.

Happy Halloween everybody!

Its strange how the Americans have taken this Halloween thing into their culture......as it didn't originate in their country.
btw:- Have a good evening, and if you live in Illinois and see someone on the street wearing a William Shatner mask............run away!

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Illustrating the limits of star power, “Our Brand is Crisis” was roundly rejected by audiences despite the presence of Sandra Bullock. “Our Brand is Crisis,” a political satire about a spin-doctor navigating a Latin American presidential election, is the "worst wide release opening of Bullock’s career", sliding in below 1996’s “Two If By Sea” with $4.7 million. It debuted to a dreadful $3.4 million across 2,202 locations. Producers: Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.....Great
I cannot stand the sight of Bullock nor the crumb Clooney. I think she is one of the most OVERRATED actresses EVER
--------------“The Martian” captured first place with $11.4 million. The Fox adventure story is on pace to be the biggest domestic grossing release of Ridley Scott’s career, having made $182.8 million since debuting in October. (I saw this last night. It wasn't bad.)

Anyway, not everybody reads everything in this thread, I don't read all the posts here.

Yep.......SW is gonna have a truly massive global opening weekend, judging by the number of advanced tickets already sold.........question is how big will it be?bjmdds wrote:Boxoffice.com USA predictions: Star Wars: The Force Awakens Dec 18, 2015----Disney----- $215,000,000 opening weekend -----$762,000,000 total run in USA-----------Spectre Nov 6, 2015------Sony / Columbia---$90,000,000 USA opening weekend------$240,000,000 total run in USA (that's a 20% DROP OFF from SF)
For instance the film is opening a week before Xmas, and some people maybe pre occupied with their xmas preparations, to bother to go to the cinema on opening night.
I think the biggest draw of the film is that people hope it will be more like the original trilogy in feel, and having the original characters in the film will be a major boost. How well the film will be received, who knows?......... depends on how well JJ Abrams has interpreted the films.
Yes, i have too, seen the BO predictions for SP in North America...ie big opening weekend, but then fizzling out at around the $240 mil mark. If that does become the case, it would still be a reasonable BO for Bond overall............but a $60 mil drop from the previous film would worry the studio.......will just have to see, won't we?
'The Martian', was a good film.............don't know how in reality someone would cope with just eating a little potato everyday for months on end though.

The latest James Bond film released in six territories so far where it has taken in $80.4 million, which includes record-breaking numbers in the UK where it opened to an estimated £41.7 million ($63.8 million USD) in its first seven days of release. Spectre took the highest seven day gross record in UK box office history from the last James Bond film, Skyfall.
