Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan (No Escape) has told the Press Association that the next star to play Ian Fleming’s iconic spy will almost certainly be a white man. Asked about rumours that a black performer such as Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation) could take on the role, Brosnan said: “Anything is possible for sure, but I think he’ll be male and he’ll be white.”

Brosnan, who played Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002, added that he was open to the possibility of a black Bond in the future, but thought that the role should always be played by a man.

He said: “There’s wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there’s no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond.

“But a female James Bond, no, I think it has to be male. James Bond is a guy, he’s all male. His name is James, his name is James Bond.”

This is how far down the rabbit hole we've fallen?! We're asking whether or not Bond can be female?! I can see how there is room for debate in Bonds ethnicity, but male or female, are we really asking that question?! Good God!!!!!!

The Spectre theme song has been released and it's is shocking. Most people seem to agree from what I have read. The song sounds like a Eurovision song contest entry sung by a monkey and that man from South Park doing his comedy ballad voice. 2/10

I didn't hate it, but it was a fairly bland power ballad. It just adds to the overall "will this do?" atmosphere of the film.

Yes Kris, you nailed it there! I am most definitely a misogynist, due to my belief that my male sexist chauvinist characters should in fact be male!

The song sounds like it's being sung by a constipated person in a pysch ward :!: Youtube comments:

This morning I've heard the new Bond song by Sam Smith. Well, sometimes we're a little bit too fast with our judgements, but already now I dare to say: This is nothing ... After a few seconds I can not stand the falsetto voice of Smith, it hurts my ears. And I can't recognize a melody. If it is true, Smith wrote the song in some 20 minutes - you hear it ... I would like to say, after the Alicia Keys desaster for QOS, this is the second worst Bond song of the entire series. Pardon me ...

Kasino80 11 hours ago
Yep I completely agree. Aft that intro I expected a Tom Jones level of power but instead got a whimpering unarticulating mess.

Barefoot67 11 hours ago
+100Singers agree too, it's horrible.

the music felt like james bond style I like it, but his horrible singing ruined the entire song

+100Singers I'm probably one of the few who actually liked the theme from QOS. But there's no question Cornell has so far produced the best new line of Bond songs. SkyFall was just an indulgeance of the industry's love for Adele and this one has carried that same notion to the next level with Sam Smith. They didn't consider fans of the franchise for a second.

I'm sorry, I respect Sam Smith, but this is nothing enviable. What happened to golden music from the likes of Shirley Bassey, Tina Turner? What happened to that explosive intro we have always wanted?

Writing's On The Wall will be the swan song to Cr-egg's career as Bond and is a perfectly fitting selection to get the stench out of the role :!: -----------The Writing's on the Wall: Sam Smith's James Bond Spectre theme panned online: U.K. singer's theme for the next James Bond movie called 'bland,' likened to 'asthmatic goose'

MSN.com:That's right: Reactions so far have been pretty mixed to the Brit's new Spectre theme, Writing's on the Wall. While some have said that Smith "totally nailed it" and it's "absolutely amazing," the general consensus seems to be that people are "underwhelmed" and "disappointed." Just heard a #WritingsOnTheWall. Don't want to hear it again. Sounds like 2 pissed girls shouting at each other at 4am in a club.

The new Sam Smith Bond song sounds like a sad drunk man shouting into a saucepan

Just heard the new Bond song.......................oh dear, what the heck was that!

Who the hell at the film studios picks these songs?.............and why can't they see, what the general public can?

The tune of the song isn't too bad..........its a shame, when Sam Smith starts singing though.......he's far too high pitched!

It's just a song by the numbers though................and i can't believe this is the best they could do, considering they had a very long time to find a decent song!

After, the truly awful song by Jack White for QOS..............i thought the film makers had come to their senses when they picked a more appropriate song for Skyfall, with Adele singing.

Oh dear.......new song isnt the worst Bond theme ever, but its definitely right at the bottom of the list.

The comments section on the BBC website says it all.

Just got to hope the film Spectre is a far better effort.

EA........not a happy teddy :(
