The excuse will be that getting rid of classic Bond elements wasn't the intention of the reboot, but rather they would be slowly reintroduced as Craig's Bond character develops.

Yes indeed Saint, but of course we know different! Remember its in black and white where Craig himself so eloquently said "Austin Powers f@#ked us!"

It seems there are more little bits of the classic Bond films in this one than in Skyfall even.
I did and frankly that troubles me. You can't urinate on the series on the one, hand by making Blofeld Bond's foster brother and on the other think you can just play a few bars from the OHMSS theme out of nowhere and think all is forgiven!

It amazes me how EON has spent the last decade distancing themselves from the "tired old formula" which "nearly killed the franchise" then turn around and hamfistedly cram as much of it as possible over their uninspired origin story fetish.

That's true. They go around saying "Bond formula doesn't fit anymore" but then they want nostalgia from old Bond fans who were here long before "the best Bond ever" Craig by Broccoli's words was here. That makes me sad and angry at the same time. For forty years Bond formula worked. Yes,there were changes, but the basics were always the same.
And after Bond made history, became an icon, was an idol for many people(like one critic said:"Not every man would like to be Bond but every boy would.") thrilled people with his charisma, his style and his martinis and tuxes now suddenly that's not fitting anymore.
How,I ask you? My theory that they just didn't know what to do and just went along with the flow with Jason Bourne or any other spy/action flick of that day because that doesn't ask creativity to do unique Bond movies anymore they just need to copy other spy flicks and perhaps propagand them like some "deep pshycological studies" and boom, tras, there you have it.
Through forty years the franchise had stronger and weaker days but you know, whether the movie is fantastically good or not-so-great it's still a Bond movie. And I will watch it,dammit!
Simply put-there are no movies like Bond movies.
There is this "feel" they have. When you watch them. It's grand. Simply grand. Seeing Bond for the first time was a huge step towards my love for cinema(infact some of the Bond movies are the only movies that I actually remember seeing in childhood) and now when I see what they are selling as Bond makes me sad. Or simply the fact that he truly is in the past now. Like GoldenEye poster said:"The world has changed,Bond has not." I just wished that the producers still believed in that after 2002.
Who knows, maybe Bond is hidding somewhere on some exotic island and is cozing up with Peaceful Fountains of Desire.

The ones are read were pretty good. Look, its a romantic comedy don't expect Oscar nominations. But IMO the hardest thing is to make a good comedy.
Its IMDB rating is slipping down.

One theory:
SPECTRE is a remake of OHMSS. Not a scene-by-scene remake, but the same basic theme -- Bond finds his one, true love. Lea Seydoux does bear a physical resemblance to how Ian Fleming described Tracy.

I think her name Madeline Swann is a play on Proust and his "In Search of a Lost Time" in which the first chapter is called "Swann's way" where the protagonist is feeling nostalgic and remembers "old days". This just points to "emotional journey" in Spectre. Suprise, suprise. _.//

Good spot. In the novel, Swann's reminiscences are triggered by the taste of a Madeline biscuit. I doubt this is a coincidence.

So I take it that a straight up Bond on a mission, with no baggage and minimal MI6 assistance is off the cards then? The same as last time, and the time before that, and before that.

That idea was eliminated back in Oct. when the script was leaked. Everything I've seen up to now points to the fact EON has gone full speed ahead, save foe a few minor changes.

In a way there is no other choice it took three years to get the script they have and begging P&W to come back after essentially firing them. If they were to go back for a rewrite essentially getting a new script there is no way in hell EON would get their act together in time to make this move ready by October 2015 or 2018. They have been rushing in to production with no finished script for decades and somehow landing on their feet, GoldenEye and Casino Royale being the two exceptions, most of their other films are half-baked when production begins.

MGM has to be aware of this, they have almost no choice aside from supporting EON, with no other Hobbit movies to milk the audience they can only turn to the only other franchise they have.

Speaking of EON's inability to script a movie in three years, whatever happened to those other films they were going to make? The Snowden pic for one. Then there was the deal they had with Sony around Quantum to make two films for them. The back story was rumoured to be a dispute over monies after QOS lost money for the studio EON was upset to keep them happy and have another way of providing the lost funds to EON Sony gave them a contract to make two movies.
And I believe there was some spy novel and the "Cop" play Daniel was in they bought the rights to as well. Some fans were chuffed that these were to be "Craig vehicles", I don't suppose these films will ever see the light of day because EON is at their heart is an incompetent production company.

EON is an icompetent production company in the hands of Barbara. But we all know that here don't we? I mean, who the hell goes shooting a movie without finished script AND a complete cast like it was the case with TND?
Production problems were even highlighted in the press and I heard that suddenly people on the streets started to worry about it. It came to the point where they had to make a press conference where Brosnan had to say everything is going well. That wasn't so long ago,you know. And people were actually worried about whether the Bond movie will be out or not. Is Babs still prepared to say Bond formula is dated and that people wouldn't be interested to see a traditional Bond film?

Maybe because I was watching it the first time around, halfheartedly. But I didnt pick up on the OHMSS theme in the Spectre trailer. I just watched it again, and I can not believe that they actually did that.

I laughed at that attempt to do a one-liner. Something about "over-due holiday". I didn't laugh because it was actually funny,I laughed because Craig so obviously can't do one-liners.
Besides that,Belluci's delivery seems to be wooden.

The whole thing continues the Craig-era habit of plundering earlier, better Bond films whilst simultaneously telling us how s**t they were and that we were all idiots for having enjoyed them. I was at my parents' house the other day, and I saw an article in one of their newspapers showing publicity shots from SPECTRE side-by-side with almost identical shots from classic Bond films. It's also partly set in an exclusive clinic in the Alps and closes with...well, I'm not going to say, as I plan to make my feelings *very* clear in the final chapter of the unofficial novelisation, assuming that it's me who writes it.
