What was wrong with seeing an older Bond?

Post by Jamesdude »

Watching A View To a Kill on bluray earlier made me think of the backlash Moore got for staying in the role too long. In my opinion he didnt even look that old in the movie but thats another topic. Ive always thought the idea of a movie with an older James Bond is an interesting concept, He could also be a mentor of some sorts to upcoming 00 agents in training at MI6 given his experiences.

Obviously the womanizing part would either stop or slowed down a bit but he would still be the 007 we know.

That's an interesting point, and when you look at Moore in that film compared to Craig in Skyfall, Moore doesn't look too bad. I've wanted to post pictures of Moore in LALD and Craig from SF to point out those two men are the same age (45) at those times in their lives, unfortunately I'm not tech savvy enough. My point is, even though Roger was pushing 60 in AVTAK he still pulled it off, and if he looked like he were taking roids like Dan does, then nobody would have complained.

Whenever I see threads about how Craig looked old in Skyfall, the fans will most of time compare Craig in his mid forties, to Moore in A View To A Kill who's pushing sixty. Some defence , they don't even bother to compare them at the same age as you mentioned. Even so, I still think Moore looked better in A View To A Kill than Craig did in Skyfall. Moore always looked a little younger than his age.

The same can be said for TLD Dalton and GE Brosnan.

I presume Eon will use the old Bond angle because Craig is going to make Bond movies every three years until at least 2021.

What was wrong with Moore in AVTAK? Absolutely nothing was wrong. He looked classier in AVTAK than ever.

Just tell me if Moore doesn't look classy in there. Posh British Secret Agent that is.

I do think Roger Moore seemed a little too old in his last couple of Bonds, maybe not in his looks but he wasn't really believable in the action scenes, you could tell most of the stuff was made with stand-ins.

And when Dalton debuted in 1987 it was so great to see a new actor who did many of the physical scenes himself.

Btw, I think Brosnan seems to have aged very well, hopefully he will be even better in November Man than he was as James Bond.

I was watching the The Ghost the other week, which was released in 2010 I think, and Brosnan in that film looks pretty much the same as he did in Die Another Day.

Here's another LALD/Skyfall comparison. The scary thing is that Moore was actually a couple of years older in LALD than Craig was when he made Skyfall.

Craig is probably aging faster since he always has a p.o'ed expression on his face

I think roger improved in the role as well, meaning his screen presence and enthusiasm was still in there in the last few films. It's a pity he had to leave but he had to go somete. He was still as believable as bond at the age of 58. It's not like he spent most part of film complaining that his knee was hurting and I need to change my dentures - he still had some energy in terms of enjoying the role.

First off, welcome to the forum, it's always nice to see another Roger Moore fan.

I totally agree with you. For me, Roger Moore and Sean Connery are still fun Bonds to watch even when they were older, not moping around like Craig's Eeyore Bond.

I like the Moore's fun bit in FYEO when he offers to buy Bibi an ice scream cone. As he aged, the lenses became more soft-focus. No amount of soft focus can save Craig's pus, however. Along with the Brosnan, I would rather see (much, much rather) these two older Bonds than Craigster. I wouldn't be surprised to see Brosnan in a knock your sox off action role, much as I enjoyed the Connery in The Rock, where he introduced himself as from "Her Majesty's SAS." It was still believable for him to toss the agent from the balcony and hold him with the rope; yet he was playing a man older than what Brosnan could play nowadays. I've known several guys in their 60s - 70s who could do that. Hopefully, Brosnan is just looking for a great action script! :cake:
You move very well for a dead man, Mister Bond

It isnt about age - its whether you can charm the sox of the audience and Daniel Craig couldn't never do that. With him, where's my handkerchief and wheres my mummy?

Thank you for the welcome - yes it's good to see another roger Moore bond fan considering he gets a lot of flak. And lemon lips, except on here, is lauded with praise. What injustice.

Just look at how Moore is sitting - elegance and class. But Craig looks like he is sitting on a loo waiting for his mummy to collect him.
