The first two Bourne films didn't do anything like Bond business internationally. Bourne may be bigger in the USA, but Bond kicks his bottom in the rest of the world.
Exactly! Could not agree more.

But it also shows encouranging signs that audiences now prefer this kind of action hero, rather than the stiff upper-lip, suited-and-booted, tongue-in-cheek comedy, eyebrow-raising, gag-a-minute, sleaze bag driving around in invisible cars, gondolas, while surfing on CGI waves, being watched by double-taking pigeons.

Bourne is the way forward now - which makes it ironically much more in line with the tone of Fleming anyway. EON, take note!!! Don't mess up Bond 22 now that you have finally found the successful formula for the 00's.

I love the way he casually dismisses most of the series as beneath his mighty intellect. One Jason Bourne ripoff with a man who looks like he's come around to read your Gas Meter and everyone is suddenly taking a dump on the films that I grew up with and love. This site has taken a lot of flak but at least it stands up for the original James Bond series.

Those who loved Casino Royale seem to hate most of the rest of the James Bond series.

Thats probably the reason why I didn't like Casino Royale, because it is a new franchise. And that's the reason why those who liked it don't like the other Bond films.

That's fair enough.

Although those who liked Royale argue that it is close to Fleming. It was not, IMHO.

Are you referring to me in the third person? If so, why?

That's not in itself a reason to dislike it. But they shouldn't have tried to pass it off as a Bond film.

Where has anyone who liked Casino Royale claimed they hate the rest of the Bond series?
Glad too see this place is still a one trick pony.

Same old anti-Craig argument rearing its ugly head again.

I guess it means I must hate OHMSS, FRWL, GF and LTK then after all (along with many of the other films).....

You realize of course he is exclusively bashing about 2/5 part of the old Bond franchise he never wants to see again, right? The Moore and Brosnan eras.

I'm on the same page as him. I would like the franchise to stay on course with what started CR but I certainly wouldn't mind a Bond film close to Dr. No or From Russia with Love, and according to earlier reports, that is what they are going for to have Craig's Bond become more refined yet still dangerous like Connery Bond.

The Sweeney's familiar rant (aimed at Moore and Brosnan) writes off 50% of the original series. I recall The Sweeney saying You Only Live Twice was s**t the other week too. I may have missed a few other disses. I like all of the original Bond films for a bit of fun and can watch any of them on television. The 'most of the Bond films were shite but Casino Royale was so brilliant I nearly exploded position' really does annoy the crap out of me.

Yes, and the other Bond forums are always delighted to welcome a contrary view on Daniel Craig aren't they?

Of course they are welcomed, if they are not from people known as Chales Vine and BJ.

Yes, I am in fact Charles Vine. I secretly came here because I am a closet fan of CR. I don't despise it, I embrace it! Come with me and embrace it with me so we can all see the light! :D

I do not know what your problem is with me but I can tell you I have been checking out the MI6 site for the past 2 days and once again, contrarians to Craig and Eon's new direction, and NEW contrarians, are actually told to leave that forum, are not appreciated, and are ridiculed because of their views. Contrary views are tolerated here quite a bit better than at MI6, and you seem to be a sarcastic person when you do not agree with others.

Not at all 007. Just check out the MI6 site. It has become worse than ever in terms of debate. That place in nothing more than a "Cloned Thought Craig Lovefest".

Isn't it a little unfair to be comparing Craig's first Bond film against Damon's third Bourne film that had the first two build up the hype?

At best you should at least compare Craig's first with Identity, which too ended up not taking the #1 spot if I am correct.

Although that wouldn't be fair too, having a known franchise against a first timer. Looks like we're stuck not comparing fairly until Craig's second film, right?
A pattern is emerging. Bourne was big. CR was bigger. TBU bigger still. And now we wait for 22.

It all looks set for Bond 22 to do MASSIVE numbers and bring back the glory, dizzy heights of 60's Bondmania and the successful Connery era. Everything is slowly falling into place!!
You speak now as The Chancellor, Darth Sidius. I may have to send our young Skywalker to battle you in debate Sweeney.

Remember Sweeney, the more things change, the more they stay the same. This 00s Bond is so radically different that it has enticed the international public. BUT, will it sustain itself, or return to normalcy with Bond in 2010, for I think the die is now cast for Bond 22 to try to capitalize on TBU's success in 2008.
