I gotta give it to Peter Lorre.
He had the classic presence of the 60s villains and he looks thick and has the sinister toady look about him like in the novel.
Best Le Chiffre: Lorre or Mikkelsen
Re: Best Le Chiffre: Lorre or Mikkelsen
Haven't seen the 50's version of CR, but Lorre is one of the all time great screen villains, so I'm sure he did a better job than sardine-face, even if he was apparently phoning in his performance.Red Grant wrote:I gotta give it to Peter Lorre.

I'm going to say Mads Mikkelsen, Peter Lorre in CR'54 was Peter Lorre playing a villain. As usual he plays the part well, but he's still Peter Lorre. Not LeChiffre."
Mikkelsen was fine in the role, and importantly didn't play the over the top villain hell bent on world domination wearing a brown / sandy coloured outfit, so stereotypical of previous Bond villains.

Can't take the credit for that, I'm afraid - it comes from the blurb for the downloadable DVD commentary for CR at www.rifftrax.comSkywalker wrote:LOLKristatos wrote:Haven't seen the 50's version of CR, but Lorre is one of the all time great screen villains, so I'm sure he did a better job than sardine-face, even if he was apparently phoning in his performance.Red Grant wrote:I gotta give it to Peter Lorre.

If you'd not printed it, I'd never have laughed so please take a bit of credit.Kristatos wrote:Can't take the credit for that, I'm afraid - it comes from the blurb for the downloadable DVD commentary for CR at www.rifftrax.comSkywalker wrote:LOLKristatos wrote:Haven't seen the 50's version of CR, but Lorre is one of the all time great screen villains, so I'm sure he did a better job than sardine-face, even if he was apparently phoning in his performance.Red Grant wrote:I gotta give it to Peter Lorre.

I'm going to go with Mr. Motto's Herr Ziffer.
The books description impressed me with a weirdness, or strangeness to the character. Fake teeth and what not.
Poor Mr. Lorre had his image used in a Nazi propaganda film "Der Ewige Jude" ("The Eternal Jew")
