He should have been Bond....

Post by Gary Seven »

It seems that thousands of actors have been linked to the role of James Bond 007.

I have my favourites who I would have liked to play Bond.

Here is my choice for each decade. It would be interesting to hear of other peoples' choices.

60's

Patrick McGoohan. He turned it down. Bond would have been different if he had got the part.

70's

Jeremy Brett. The greatest Sherlock Holmes of them all would have been a dashing Moore like Bond

80's

Lewis Collins. The Professionals star was born to play Bond but Cubby did not like him.

90's

James Purefoy. Watching him in Rome recently made me regret that he did not get Bond.

00's

Sam Worthington. Reboot Bond by all means with an origin story. But cast a young actor, and Worthington was my favourite of the young Bond candidiates.

Welcome. Purefoy would have been a good choice now as well.

Tony Kendall, who played Kommissar X in the 60s, would also have been a good 007!

Frederick Stafford who played OSS 117 in the 60s could also have played 007!

Michael Billington

.......of 'UFO' fame

He was apparently like the reserve Bond during the seventies,
as you know he did end up getting a small part in the opening
credits sequence of TSWLM.

I'm glad that Connery was Bond in the 60's, but if he hadn't been then I have always thought that Cary Grant would have made a great Bond for a few films.

Here's a name probably no-one else has ever mentioned for Bond. But back in the late 80's or early 90's a guy who I thought might have made a decent Bond was an actor named Tristan Rogers.

Whereas I definitely feel that Brosnan should have been given at least one more Bond film, if not even two, a good replacement would have been Hugh Jackman or Christian Bale.

Going with a "reboot" I would have chosen Sam Worthington.

I think Ian Ogilvy would have been a more obvious choice to take over from Roger Moore, as he did in The Return of the Saint. Collins would have been more of a Craig-style Bond, thuggish and unrefined.

I think Ian Ogilvy, even though a good actor, would of been a bit of a
lightweight for Bond.

Well, if they wanted a Moore-style Bond, Ogilvy would have been a logical choice. Personally, I wish Dalton had taken over the role in 1981. FYEO was arguably more suited to him than to Moore, and we may have got a more serious version of Octopussy, with no Tarzan yells. Not sure even Dalton could have saved AVTAK, though.

The producers were'nt looking for another Moore style Bond in 1986. So Ogilvy was'nt considered. I beleive Ogilvy was also in his late 40's, so too old. Lewis Collins used to have women camping outside his house, such was his sex appeal. All my school mates wanted him to be Bond. He would have played it tough but he had a cheeky grin and could have done humour & charm. However the producers wanted a PC Bond which Collins may have struggled with. Brosnan also should have taken over from Moore, but we all know what happened. However Dalton was still a good choice.
