What sets Craig apart though from the likes of Schwarznegger, Stallone, Willis, etc. is that he can actually act. You only have to take one look at his more radical roles to see that.Jedi007 wrote:That's it! No one said Craig could not act Sweeney, he is just out of character as Bond. Too bad he did not get Ledger's role of the Joker in The Dark Knight. Playing a psychotic criminal is Craig's forte, not an english gentleman named Bond, James Bond. The Sweeney wrote:What sets Craig apart though from the likes of Schwarznegger, Stallone, Willis, etc. is that he can actually act. The former group you mentioned played right into Broccoli's hands with Craig and they contributed greatly to the box office take of CR from what was reported.Jedi007 wrote:That's it! I actually think Craig is the best part of the distinctly average movie.bjmdds wrote:I watched it again. I cannot get into this film at all and cannot believe the fuss that was made over it. By the way, Bourne 3 did $24 million opening day in the USA, with more action over psyche drama.

In the USA, the verdict is now in. In November 2006, Daniel Craig, as James Bond in Casino Royale, did $40.3 million it's opening weekend. In 2002, Brosnan's DAD did $47 million in the USA it's opening weekend. The Bourne Ultimatum, this weekend, August 2007, brought in a whopping $70.2 million in the USA, nearly doubling the revenue of Casino Royale's opening weekend! It seems Jason Bourne has replaced James Bond as the favorite spy film in the USA. Eon will probably copy much more of the style of TBU to attempt to keep pace with the current appetite of the USA public. Bourne is more Bauer-like than Bond, and Bond is now more Bourne-like than Bond. I doubt ANY Forster directed spy film could come close to TBU's numbers.

Still great news for Bond 22 though. It means audiences are not tired by this new, grittier action trend - therfore meaning EON will still continue in this vain too.bjmdds wrote:In the USA, the verdict is now in. It will also be interesting to see how well TBU does worldwide, whether it will top CR.

Once again BJ sings BS at the slightest.
Isn't it a little unfair to be comparing Craig's first Bond film against Damon's third Bourne film that had the first two build up the hype?
At best you should at least compare Craig's first with Identity, which too ended up not taking the #1 spot if I am correct.
Although that wouldn't be fair too, having a known franchise against a first timer. Looks like we're stuck not comparing fairly until Craig's second film, right?

A pattern is emerging. Bourne was big. CR was bigger. TBU bigger still. And now we wait for 22.stockslivevan wrote:Once again BJ sings BS at the slightest.

It all looks set for Bond 22 to do MASSIVE numbers and bring back the glory, dizzy heights of 60's Bondmania and the successful Connery era. Everything is slowly falling into place!!

The first two Bourne films didn't do anything like Bond business internationally. Bourne may be bigger in the USA, but Bond kicks his bottom in the rest of the world. The Sweeney wrote:It will also be interesting to see how well TBU does worldwide, whether it will top CR.

But it also shows encouranging signs that audiences now prefer this kind of action hero, rather than the stiff upper-lip, suited-and-booted, tongue-in-cheek comedy, eyebrow-raising, gag-a-minute, sleaze bag driving around in invisible cars, gondolas, while surfing on CGI waves, being watched by double-taking pigeons.
Bourne is the way forward now - which makes it ironically much more in line with the tone of Fleming anyway. EON, take note!!! Don't mess up Bond 22 now that you have finally found the successful formula for the 00's.
I'm sure the tradition of copying the last big spy hit will continue as long as Barbara Broccoli is in charge. The Brosnan era was characterised by making the Bond films more like True Lies and the Craig era will be characterised by making the Bond films more like the Bourne films. Making Bond films that are like Bond films will be off the table for the forseeable future. You'd better pray that the forthcoming Get Smart movie starring Steve Carell doesn't break any box office records and/or generate positive critical buzz. The Sweeney wrote:Bourne is the way forward now - which makes it ironically much more in line with the tone of Fleming anyway. There is no balance to your counter arguments. I appreciate you despise DAD and probably all the lighthearted Bond movies, but they have been huge commercial success stories. DAD had a superb admissions rate and out performed TWINE which highlights the point that Brosnan was still hugely popular and the style of Bond film did not need to be changed. The Sweeney wrote:

Sleaze bag? If the traditional Bond is a sleaze bag I'll take him over Craig's craggy, morose, dour miserable git character (I'm sorry, I can't call him 'Bond') with one facial expression.
