If Man of Steel does well then Cavill will more than likely be doing Justice League films in addition to Superman sequels and really wouldn't need Bond at all. Plus, if Barbara's idea of James Bond is Sean Bean and Daniel Craig then you can't really see her ever casting him anyway. Like the Captain, I would have found Skyfall to be a strange plodding film whoever was playing Bond in it. I welcomed the return of a bit of humour but, honestly, the last third of a Bond film featuring 007 in a field at night with a shotgun? It's not exactly Auric Goldfinger trying to rob Fort Knox. And we now have one of the most wooden actresses I have ever seen in my entire life as Moneypenny. I didn't mind Whishaw but if they do ever replace Craig I'd like to see Q and Moneypenny recast again and just pretend the Craig films didn't happen.

The last third of a Bond film with Bond in a field with a rifle? That's "From Russia With Love." Both SF and FRWL had helicopters in the last third as well. I don't see what that has to do with the quality of the movie.

Moneypenny recast is a must. So was just so wrong in so many ways. Zoe Saldana, I'd follow her anywhere.
Twilight is going to break their records too I think. I'm curious what the Hobbit will do now, if Bond did well here and it wasn't all that big in hype here then the Hobbit IMO has the potential to dwarf (
) Avengers.

By the way,FormerBondFan, you could also add scruffy unshaven self-employed landscaping contractors to your list. Craig proved that look works well for Bond in Skyfall.

Most of the last act of FRWL wasn't Sean Connery in a field next to an old shack in the middle of nowhere with a gamekeeper who looked like Father Christmas. Besides, I found most of what came before fairly tedious too to be honest even before the terribly exciting muddy field in the dark shenanigans. I still don't know what the early reviews for this misfire were going on about.Gala Brand wrote:The last third of a Bond film with Bond in a field with a rifle? That's "From Russia With Love." SK-AWFUL was a tedious and frivolous insult to traditional Bond fans.

If the traditional Bond is to return, then EON needs to go, and the franchise has to be rebooted again but in the same fashion as Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes. The 2nd reboot shall have a new cast and crew and should be the new episode 1 of James Bond.Capt. Sir Dominic Flandry wrote:To be honest even if some miracle had occurred and Barbara had cast some dark handsome male model type like Cavill as Bond for Skyfall I would still have disliked the movie.

Only if EON is out of the game and replaced by a new crew like the Bat and Star Trek did.....not to mentioned a 2nd reboot in the same fashion as the 2009's Sherlock.bjmdds wrote:So you will accept a new traditional Bond then?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
MP was changed regularly after Lois left, generally with the Changing of the Bonds. The series proved M and MP can be replaced, even Q. I think Dench was held on to way too long for girl power reasons, Old Spice if you will.FormerBondFan wrote:Only if EON is out of the game and replaced by a new crew like the Bat and Star Trek did.....not to mentioned a 2nd reboot in the same fashion as the 2009's Sherlock.bjmdds wrote:So you will accept a new traditional Bond then?

Q was different he was the non partisan representative of the fans in a way, he didn't judge the Bonds, he was there for product placement and a friendly face for the regulars.
Q was the one innovation the movie world added that did work with the Bond Ian created. New Q I rather be Bond, thou Craig will probably go on to Botox Another Day .

I think a new Bond will clean house because it almost is what has to happen, M might be a salvageable it really depends on how the character develops. Keeping Dench on was a mistake after rebooting or as someone said prequels.

Star trek did the same thing as the new Bonds i.e. created a new alternative universe to appeal to people who think star trek is s**t.

I love TOS, the 2009 movie is a different animal from what the shows were all about. Still they managed to be more careful with the Star Trek than Barbara was with Bond.
'Star Trek' could still be TV hit, says 'Battlestar Galactica' exec
Moore - who reinvented Battlestar Galactica for television in 2004 - added that "the lifeblood of Star Trek's television shows is its morality plays and social commentary".
"It's sci-fi that provides a prism on human society and culture," he argued. "The movies are never really going to do what the episodes do.
"To create Star Trek in the form that people are familiar with requires another television series, and I think it will be successful again in that medium. You have to spend some time talking about its form and structure, and how to update it again for a new audience."

On the bright side, the 2009's Trek and the Trek we all know are in the same canon because of the older Spock played by Nimoy, who went back in time.Bejams wrote:Star trek did the same thing as the new Bonds i.e. created a new alternative universe to appeal to people who think star trek is s**t.

New Bond. New M. New Moneypenny. New Q. New Tanner. All new cast and crew and possibly a new MI6 building as to distinguish from all the movies that came before.....like just the Bat.Blowfeld wrote:I think a new Bond will clean house because it almost is what has to happen, M might be a salvageable it really depends on how the character develops.

My brother saw Skyfall over the Thanksgiving holiday and agreed with me-was a good movie, but not a masterpiece. My parents saw Lincoln yesterday and really liked it.

Lincoln is doing great, limited number of theaters and everything. Tuesday was a virtual tie with all three movies doing $2 million.katied wrote:My brother saw Skyfall over the Thanksgiving holiday and agreed with me-was a good movie, but not a masterpiece. I don't think Spyfall lives up to the hype one bit. I think it says something that people who do not like Craig are willing to say it the best of the movies he's done but he still not a good Bond.
But people who love Craig think this is not the best movie he has done and still give deference to CR. Which is another bloated overly long movie that doesn't live up to the hype.

Lincoln might overtake Bond 23 this weekend. It's dropping faster now with competition. It was only $52,000 behind Bond 23 yesterday here and is at 1500 fewer theaters. Hobbit time folks
