English Agent wrote:'Omega' i thought Taken 2 was a pretty good film...yes it was a very similar retread of the first film, hence why critics gave it low ranking, but the cinmea going public have loved it. Its made well over $300 mil worldwide and only cost a mere $45 mil to make.

It makes you wonder now...how good an action star 'Neeson' could of been if he had been given action roles when he was younger!
Or a serious Matt Helm movie if he did it now.

Box Office Report: 'Skyfall' Nabs Top Bond Opening in North America With $87.8 Million
The pic has taken in a total of $90 million domestically including the $2.2 million earned in exclusive Thursday runs; Steven Spielberg's awards contender "Lincoln" opens in 11 cities to strong numbers.

Sam Mendes' James Bond pic Skyfall easily seduced the North American box office with a potent $87.8 million debut, bringing its worldwide cume to $500 million or more in only two weeks of play.

Skyfall earned another $2.2 million in exclusive Thursday runs in Imax and other large-format theaters, bringing its four-day domestic total to $90 million.
And yes, adjusted for inflation not to mention imax etc of course it can't compete with older movies. Basically none of the current ones can, except those raking in stuff like 1 bln at the box office.
I concede I underestimated Skyfall ticket sales.

I knew Great Britain is a lost cause put Bond, Potter, or Tolkien on the marquee and there is this unexplained compulsion to go. America I though they loved their spanglely vampires there.
The vampires come back on Friday.

It's about 1 million increase if the numbers hold, which is almost exactly the Imax boost. Without Imax it is exactly the same amount of people who went to QOS.
I thought 80m would be a good take in healthy market, binging back the same audience qos had adding 1 million to them is extraordinary. 60m is the make or break number for the us, 75 is what should be expected, 80+ is good hunting.

The holder over so far is great, lets see how it does with real competition. I still don't think it will have the slow burn the other Craig movies had just because there are some very big names coming down and theaters are going to want to give as many extra screens possible to the new blockbusters.

To put it in perspective QOS is at lest 688 movie and CR 700+m movie. Without matching those movies attendance they can match them so lets see what they can do as the fervor dies down.

Best line in SF was just after 'Kincade' blew a villain apart with a sawn off shot-gun, and says ........."WELCOME TO SCOTLAND" :)

ps:- BO MOJO reckons SF could make over $900 mil worldwide.

Which is funny because they are neither in Scotland nor welcome.

I wouldn't say 900m impossible, so far the people who watch the US market especially are off on their projections, not hobbyist, people who watch the details. There is 80 to 100m still on the table in markets yet to open. But there is also real competition coming, some are using the model that CR and QOS had which had next to nil competition, if they hold in the face of worldwide competition then 800 to 900 is a real possibility.

For the people who wish to see a new actor take on the mantle of Bond sooner rather than later.........then the success of SF could be a blessing to them as it certainly means the franchise will survive, but it also means the next film will probably be made within 2 years and so forth....

Sorry BJ. DAD and Pierece Brosnan films were not perfection. Change had to happen, and it looks like the change paid off massively.
No wait, I absolutely disagree there. QoS was HORRIFIC. Doing one decent movie (Skyfall, because I absolutely do not consider Casino Royale a good movie) with, let it be clear, still a WRONG guy in the lead doesn't mean getting it right. It means screwing it up majorly at first and then after a lot of protests from many people following QoS adjusting it to make it far better than the horror it was. Once they fix it some more, with some MORE classic elements from Bond and obviously an actor who actually looks and behaves like James Bond in the lead, then we'll talk. And by the way, nobody could have saved the horror that was QoS (it was just a horrid concept and really badly filmed), but I do think that with a better and more Bond-looking actor in the role they WOULD rake in even more money with Skyfall. They wouldn't even have found themselves needing to fix so much as they needed to fix this time around, because with an appropriate actor as a lead, the movies would have looked more Bondian by default (like I said, class is not something you buy, you either have it or you don't. And Craig doesn't. On top of not looking like Bond at all) and people would have complained far less. I do not think Cubby should be proud of his daughter insulting the franchise and the concept of Bond, only to then be forced to fix it because well, QoS was a disaster.

Like I said, Skyfall is WAY better than the previous two, especially QoS, but it's still far from being perfect, mainly because of the leading man and because of the downright forgettable roles they penned for the women. I actually did see quite a few people saying Craig looked way too old for the role in this one, and I'm talking critics and directors, not fans. So I do not agree that everyone, even when criticizing parts of the movie, saved Craig. I even saw an openly gay film critic (and gay critics DO like Craig generally speaking) state that. The fact he doesn't look the part enough seems much more evident for a lot more people this round. So that remains, and it needs serious fixing. But the movie is a MAJOR improvement from QoS. That's for sure.

The film skewed older, with 75 percent of the audience over age 25. Males made up 60 percent of those buying tickets. (Teenagers are NOT the main contributors to the tally.) You thought Bond 23 opened big here? Just wait: http://www.deadline.com/2012/11/yikes-t ... -premiere/ "Sorry, Skyfall fans, but Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is currently tracking north of a $150 million opening weekend compared to Bond’s $90 million."

English Agent wrote:Update: no sooner than i typed the previous message, i saw a report stating that SF by early estimates has now accumalated $518.6 mil worldwide.

Another $89 mil was added this weekend in Internatioanl territories.

EA
I looked it up it was 518 total counting all territories this weekend.
$89.0M million this weekend overseas bringing the international total to $428.6 million. With this weekend’s $90M opening in the U.S. and Canada,an estimated $518.6M
I know, I know, I swore I wasn't going to use them again but there it is.

Same thing happened with QOS the total international and worldwide + US were mixed up, some places added the US BO to the international total with it already counted.

I saw someplace that China is making US film vs each other, Spiderman vs batman same day. January is supposed to have Spyfall vs Hobbit vs Cloud Atlas same day  . They are bitching about how much money the US films make and how it hurts the local films, but these guy keep 65% according to Mazer,

out of the big money maker china keep the most of any country. But the big deal seem to be them making US films face off, they say Disney played this real smart and partnered with a Chinese company with enough influence to get them safe release dates.

The irony of the situation is that 'BJ' said to me that if i won the contest to guessing the BO opening figure for SF in the US, i would,
as his words said, be awarded........... "A date with Cr-egg at the chateau of your choice".................hope you enjoy your date 'BJ'.

Actually i can see 'BJ' now pouring oil over the moat around the castle and setting fire to it! :D

The permanent end of the James Bond we know from 1962 to 2002. What's next? An Asian Bond?

It is probably a signed done deal for this to be the next Bond via the next green vegetable's protege and the new Imperious curse: http://pridemagazine.com/wp-content/upl ... nights.jpg To hell with the franchise at this rate. Send in George the animal Steele already :!: In 2008, NYC tickets were $10.00. They are now $14.00 for an adult, weekend night viewing. That is a 40% increase over 4 years in the ticket prices here. By coincidence, QOS increased by 40% yields $91 million opening weekend. Q, what was the attendance increase this past weekend?

If that's the case, I will stop watching the Oscars altogether until the freaks are being sent to take over as Bond once DC retires.
