FBF, you have another recruit in Shaken.......Bond 23 has Stirred him up. It's only a matter of time before this film bombs after the second weekend in the USA. EA, Sweeney and the other Europeans can throw out their pounds on this but it won't be any blockbuster here once people see it for what it is.

Not at all surprising. Many people who saw the first teaser trailer said that Skyfall seemed more like Batman than Bond.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I don't think so because from Daniel Craig's view there are only three interesting stories James Bond has to tell, how he got his start, how his career winds down, how he falls in love. They coved the last in Casino, obviously they would not dare remake On her Majesties Secret Service, Casino is as close as they will dare come to this story for a long time to come.carl stromberg wrote:I think we are stuck with old Commander Lemon Lips for many years to come.
If Skyfall completes the story of Bond from his beginnings as a new guy to old guy ready to retire it's come full circle for him. Same way it came full circle for Batman Begins . There really is no place else for prestige story hound to go, not where he would be happy with a continuation. I don't think we've known when a Bond actors upcoming outing would be their last, if Skyfall is nominated I think he'll feel the pressure even more and want to walk away a hero. Those are the Bond actor only two choices as I see it, walk away a hero or become the villain when they are replaced.

So much for bringing back the fun."it’s clearly possible to make a dark movie that people want to see."
They've been trying to make Batman begins since CR, maybe they came closer this time but I bet a direct side by side comparison Bond is the one that falls short.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
37 reviews clocked in so far on Rotten Tomatoes. That is the majority of movie and newspaper publications I would have thought for the UK, and quite a lot for the US too.
Currently only 1 negative review, with a score standing at 97%. I thought by now the score may have dropped to late 80's after a few negative reviews appeared, but this hasn't been the case. If more positive reviews appear next week, that figure could slide up to 98%.
I think it's now fair to say, even at this stage, the critics love Skyfall.

Maybe Sween 40 reviews is not a lot and it don't take so many to knock the number down its going to get like 200 reviews I'd bet. I seriously doubt it can out do the CR lovefest ratings.
P.S.
I went back and looked at Rotten Tomatoes QOS first negative they clocked was Oct 28, first positive was Oct 20, it was released here Nov 14th, admittedly by the first 40 it had at least 10 negatives so you don't have another QOS on your hands.

Yes, I know this is an improvement on QoS (it couldn't have been any worse)....Dr. No wrote:Maybe Sween 40 reviews is not a lot and it don't take so many to knock the number down its going to get like 200 reviews I'd bet. I seriously doubt it can out do the CR lovefest ratings.

What would be interesting to find out is how well CR was faring at this stage on RT before the film came out, as I have a sneaky feeling Skyfall will surpass CR on the ratings score.

Critics loving Bond 23 due to it's CONTENT is a kiss of death at the box office. Bond 23 is off on a Mendes tangent. REPEAT admissions are highly doubtful here in the USA. This is a sick plot.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
We've no real idea how word-of-mouth will go on this one, but usually if critics are fawning over it, that is a far more positive sign than critics hating it, and giving it terrible reviews. If the film is as good as everyone is saying it is (and here in the UK there has been quite a few celebs who have seen this now, not just die-hard critics, all giving it the big thumbs up), then the chances are word-of-mouth could be equally as positive.bjmdds wrote:Critics loving Bond 23 due to it's CONTENT is a kiss of death at the box office. I don't think CR had this many glowing reviews prior to its release. I do recall quite a few opposing the new direction, and as for QoS, that really was a mixed bag. For every decent review that popped up, an equally negative one did too. A week before QoS's release, I was quite sceptical due to the amount of bad reviews I had read beforehand.
Whereas Skyfall is in a totally different league. Right now we are in Chris Nolan territory in terms of critical acclaim, something I've not seen before with a Bond film.
Olympics, Bond 50 and Adele were always going to be the big plus factors to draw in a huge BO for Skyfall. If the film keeps at 97% on RT (or even higher), and the film itself is as good as everyone says it is, this could well be the biggest Bond movie since TB globally.
(Mazer will probably slap me down now for this overly optimism.....

Word of mouth and a reason to see it. here the Twilight monster is right on its heels it also has 3weeks of being on the internet so did QOS has 2 weeks it opened big but it's a different easier, faster, digital world. I got in trouble back then for mentioning it would be on the internet I don't know if that had a real world consequence but the ripped DVD was online a few weeks in because the idiots thought they could win a Oscar for QOS and sent out screeners .
I do think the lack of free tickets here will hurt it here.
Seriously you want to believe it will get fewer negative reviews than Dark Knight, Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers, Looper, Argo? Then again I can't believe how many were willing to give qos a pass so maybe you'll be right but man I doubt it.
One last point how about reviews and what they're worth Taken 2 how does that f'ing movie go big? Fox you should of made A-team 2

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
The only reason Taken 2 has done so well in its opening is because of the stregth of the first one. I expect word of mouth will finally cause Taken 2 to drop off. In some ways Taken 2 and QoS have a lot in common. Poor reviews, but solid opening, riding on the success of its predecessor.Omega wrote:Word of mouth and a reason to see it. here the Twilight monster is right on its heels it also has 3weeks of being on the internet so did QOS has 2 weeks it opened big but it's a different easier, faster, digital world. It had a 55.8% drop-off in ints second weekend (better than QOS's, but still over the magic 50% mark), so you may be right.

QOS has a 64 rating on Rotten Tomatoes; Taken 2 has a 21 rating. The two are not at all comparable.

No, but in terms of how they opened probably are, as they were riding on the goodwill crest of a wave created by the film before it, despite how good these films were on their own merits.Gala Brand wrote:QOS has a 64 rating on Rotten Tomatoes; Taken 2 has a 21 rating. I have not seen Taken 2 but I can imagine its pretty awful judging by the reviews, and although QoS scored higher on RT, it is not a particularly good film. Many fans and even critics regard QoS as down there with DAD in terms of how bad it is in the franchise.
