Boycott

Post by BondFan007 »

One of the purposes of this site is to promote and support a consumer boycott of the new film, Casino Royale, and any film starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, among James Bond fans and filmgoers at large.[/quote]

I was wondering who actually boycotted the film. This isn't a "hate" thread etc. I was just wondering, as this was one of the purposes of this site, and I remember the petition, before it was closed, had thousands of signatures.

Apart from Ameribond, has anyone not seen CR?
“I'd like to thank the Royal Marines for bringing me in like that and scaring the s--- out of me,” Bond Hardman Daniel Craig.

But for the boycott to work and be effective, it would've only worked if people had some will power and didn't see the film.
But still having little or no effect on the overall box office. :P

to the lemming way of think I guess it makes perfect sense. go with the flow, its its own reward. ;)

but the boycott was about not rewarding mgm (or who ever).
How many boycotted and saw CR but didn't pay. Don't bother answering because I'd hate to report ya

in the states (and a few other places, probably) CR wasn't the talk of the town and didn't do great. we've got friends who haven't seen CR because of DC but are not "boycotting"

Well, I'll admit that I broke down and went to see the movie. I had to. I can't boycott and 007 movie. I gave the new guy a chance to see what he can do and left disappointed. I'll be in the line for the next film when it comes out. Once I watch that film, I'll leave the theater again disappointed.

Glad you saw the film. Without watching it, you can only justifiably criticize the choice of Craig as Bond. You would be in no position to criticize Craig's performance or the film.

Also unless you are totally against the choice of Craig as Bond, you should not dismiss Bond 22 before you have seen it. I can just about put up with the blonde hair, lack of height and Joe average looks, but if his performance is Bond like I will be happy.

I'm willing to give the guy another chance, but he needs to step up in the next film. Just like you, I can look past the blonde hair and below average looks. I just know that he better be able to be old school James Bond during dramatic scenes. Anybody can do action scenes...its the other scenes that count. One more thing...I better not see another scene were he argues with a girl over what tux to wear.

Depends on what you mean by old school James Bond. If you mean smug, raised eyebrows, winks at cameras, smirks, very unsubtle, embarrassing one-liners, etc. then you can keep the old school Bond.

Well, it worked for all these years. Why stop now. IMO, it was those things and having cool gadgets, beautilful women, nice cars with gadgets is what help Bond get over with people. The new style of Bond that EON is presenting now is more serious, but the fun isn't there anymore.

Times change, audiences change. FRWL is hardly the same as MR, and MR is hardly the same as LTK (I've just spanned 30 years right there with different changes).

If you unwrap that medal Commander, I think you'll find some chocolate inside.
Well done all the same, you must have strong will power to boycott one of the biggest and most popular films of 2006.

I shan't ever unwrap it. Never, not even if a dozen Bond girls tempt me, "Pleezze unwrap it, Commander!"

Overall the boycott seemed to be a failure altogether considering CR got a $100 million boost after its predecessor.

At least you all tried.

Do, or do not. There is no try.
