Right now the average Hollywood studio’s marketing spend on a blockbuster is $70+M domestic and at least that for international. Some studios have been known to spend $200+M globally like when Sony Pictures introduced its new Bond, Daniel Craig. So adding another $50M is both a marketing bonanza and branding booster. Specifically, Battleship‘s promotional partners include Coke Zero which has planned the largest global packaging promotion in its history as well as TV ad campaign. Also Cisco which has made its first-ever film partnership with Battleship. Subway has a large TV campaign and in-store promotion with the movie, and Kraft, Nestle, and Chevron are on board as well. Also both the U.S. Navy (whose actual sailors were used as extras) and the USO are using the movie to promote themselves.
LOL stuff we've said for months now suddenly made public... wonder whether it would have taken longer hadn't we dug up stuff

Of course Sony spent that money trying to buy Craig's acceptance, and not coincidentally CR was far better received than QoS (if you know what I mean... oiling the machine costs money). LOL so now knowing this can we please tell the fanboys that no, CR wasn't the movie that gave them the highest profits, because that honor goes back where it belongs, to DAD. CR grossed more because of inflation but the attendance difference was extremely slight and considering the time that had passed plus the publicity, well, you get the picture.

Also glad this explains that, like we had said before, studios spend around $150 mln to advertise big movies, which means that at the very least that needs to be added to the QoS ginormous production cost... and of course once you do the math, it's very easy to see how the studio booked a loss with it. Except for the fanboys who pretend math is an opinion and that the box office gross is a profit instead of gross sales. :^o):

In other news, last night both The Voice and Smash kicked some serious butt in the ratings! I am one HAPPY camper. Finally some ratings justice. Granted, they'll go down for epi 2 of Smash as always happens from premiere to epi 2 but they can easily afford to lose a 20% and still be in the GREAT numbers side. So happy!

Spiderman trailer looks very good to me. I'm curious to see it, will definitely go.

Spiderman is a miscast film and Garfield won't work. It will be lucky to do 50% of Tobey's. Any time you place Martin Sheen in a film it will not do well. The time-period premiere of "The Voice" Monday night got a good post-Super Bowl bump, recording its biggest audience ever for a regularly scheduled episode. The lead-in also helped the premiere of "Smash" win its time period at 10 p.m., giving NBC its first non-Olympics sweep of a Monday night in more than three years. I say Ms. Bouvier should replace Amy Pascal at Sony! Ale presents HER VOICE did great!

This third virus must CRASH and BURN at the box office much worse (especially here in the US) than QOS did. Otherwise, we're going have the general public end up with this.

I hope it ends up like this.

I just pictured the "Fatal Attraction" scene when he goes over to her place and kills her. A new Bond scene featuring Babs and DC?

You give me way too much credit, BJ. But, I'd love to be a producer, that, yes. The only thing I like more than that is being a screenwriter... sadly it's much easier to pick between stuff other people wrote than to write great stuff yourself.. so I'll see if the screenwriting works in the end  But, I've been told before by friends who are directors and producers that I really do have an eye for both casting and picking projects, so who knows... with a very high up connection at Sony I may manage to clean Amy Pascal's mind from certain things? As in, casually end up at the same place for lunch and have a word, License to Kill style?  (just need a Pam Bouvier action there, she'll be convinced in no time! LOL)

Some people are getting sick on some cruise ships now too. What line will the big Alaskan sea venture be on? A huge ship? A floating city?

You could do it, do not sell yourself short. We here could all co-produce a Bond film film and make it more enjoyable for the masses as well.

I have been to Grand Turk but I haven't been to Cancun or Cozumel. My brother and his wife and their kids went to the same resort in Cancun a couple years in a row. They loved it because it was all inclusive and their kids were the perfect ages for it at the time.

I have to tell you, I have been so lucky *knocks wood* when it comes to Norovirus. You can be very careful and still get it. But one big thing is washing your hands. Another is not touching surfaces(like stair bannisters) excessively.

"For the second weekend in a row, and fifth overall, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol took the top spot at the foreign box office. The blockbuster espionage sequel added $24.3 million from 50 markets, most of which came from an enormous $18.5 million second weekend haul in China. The movie has already made $54.4 million there, and China should pass Japan ($66.7 million) soon to become Ghost Protocol's highest-grossing territory. Since opening in mid-December, the movie has earned a massive $424.3 million overseas for a worldwide total of $629.6 million." Non-Bond 23 won't come close to this success. MI:4 is now the spy standard to go by for box office results.

Bond 23: Nothing Special has to gross much lower than QOS at the box office, especially here in the US.
