"With a reported production budget of $90 million and an expensive marketing campaign, the prospects of Sony making money off the film would seem to be less than certain. It raises the question, will Sony bother to make movies out of the next two books in Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Series, “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets’ Nest”?"

" Fincher calls Craig the "giant planetary body," of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," around which the other characters (such as Rooney Mara's Lisbeth Salander) orbit.
The director is clearly taken with Craig, whom he compares to Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas -- agile leading men with calm exteriors and smoldering eyes.
"He's obviously got a physical presence and a sense of menace," Fincher said. "But he has this ability to be available for the other actor. It's a selflessness. It's a movie star thing. It's knowing how to create a conduit for the audience."
In "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," Craig plays journalist Mikael Blomkvist, who joins Salander to investigate a missing-woman case that unravels the sordid history of a Swedish family. It's based on the novels of Stieg Larsson, whose books were previously adapted into three Swedish-language movies.
Craig is now shooting his third Bond film, "Skyfall," directed by Sam Mendes. His contract has an option for a fourth, but more seem likely. Bond producer Michael Wilson said he hopes to sign Craig for another five films and make him the longest running 007." {Fincher is one of FBF's minions that have been infected by Eon's virus. Is he kidding? Another enabler. Cr-egg's has an OPTION for a 4th film. It had better end after three.}

Hugh Jackman ends record-setting Broadway run
Jan. 1, 2012, 4:50 PM EST
NEW YORK (AP) -- Hugh Jackman has left Broadway with a lot of broken hearts — and records.
The hunky Australian actor's one-man Broadway concert show closed on Sunday afternoon at the Broadhurst Theatre after having earned $2,057,354 in its final week, the highest weekly gross recorded by the Shubert Organization, which owns the Broadhurst and 16 other Broadway theaters.
Over its 10-week run, Jackman earned a whopping $14,638,428, producers said. He now owns 10 of the 11 top grossing weeks at the Broadhurst.
Jackman, best known for being the hairy Wolverine in "The X-Men" franchise, routinely sold out the 1,176-seat theater and usually posted weekly grosses of $1.5 million, often higher than rival musicals such as "Jersey Boys," "Mama Mia!" "How to Succeed in Business," "Anything Goes" and "Follies." {He is ready for Bond 24 now]

Saw a bit of the Broadway production of Oklahoma on Sky Arts the other day, though it was only a few minutes, and Hugh wasn't in the bit I saw, so I can't give you my impressions of his performance.

Went to Mission Impossible yesterday, it actually surprised me in few places. I would go on to describe them but don't want to ruin it.
I will say I thought it was very well done, better than any Bond film since the 1990s. Not saying a lot I know but the story had a few great surprises and was Over The Top action done right. Like Bond used to do. Yes it is over the top and yes it is unbelievable that a normal man or woman could pull off the stunts but it is damned fun and it works for the story.
Is it just me or does that Russian hunting,,, er, Hunt resemble Craig?

I've seen Sherlock 2. Not as good as MI4 maybe better than Sherlock 1. Over all Sherlock was a Bond themed movie including baddy and gadgets. Even had Bond's rebreather.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
"After languishing in sixth and seventh place from Tuesday through Friday, War Horse received a boost on Saturday and Sunday and finished the three-day weekend in fifth place with an estimated $14.4 million. By Monday, though, the movie leaped over Dragon Tattoo to claim fourth place with an estimated $19.2 million. Through nine days in theaters, the Steven Spielberg WWI drama has earned $45.2 million, and it's quickly closing in on the final total of Spielberg's Munich ($47.4 million)." { The holiday season is now history and new films will be out. It seems animals, be it penguins, chipmunks, or horses, are more popular to the public, head to head, than Cr-egg's films. Maybe they should hope for more success keeping this "romantic thriller" around until Valentine's day.
What a joke of a release schedule for a film

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
"Opening in the U.K. and five other smaller markets was Sony’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which collected $8.3 million on the weekend overall from 1,540 sites in 14 markets. First full week in the U.K. at 920 sites yielded $6.7 million of the weekend total for director David Fincher’s edition starring Rooney Mara of the Swedish thriller. Early international cume stands at $12.2 million over two rounds." {It's going nowhere folks
They need over $200 million worldwide just to break even with a $90 million budget plus P&A added on to their costs.}

" And it's tough to be positive about Spielberg's second holiday release, the animated Adventures of Tintin, says Nicole Pedersen at Collider. Its $12 million weekend gross was only good for seventh place, "passed up by family audiences in favor of Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 — that's got to hurt." {I am loving this people
. We all knew Cr-egg was a loser and more proof for Sony and MGM. There is NO way the heads of these two studios are not concerned about this

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
"The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo :After a surprisingly frail opening weekend, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo increased its box-office gross in its second week. David Fincher's adaptation of Stieg Larsson's hit book was up 28 percent, taking in $16.8 million. Over 12 days, the film has made $57.1 million, which is "decent but somewhat disappointing," says Young, considering the massive hype and the film's $90 million budget. With the planned sequels of the film now looking questionable, Dragon Tattoo "will have to look to the international markets to help move the film into the black," says Brian Fuson at Indie Wire." {Beautiful, just beautiful

Ale, Immortals did around $16 million in Russia but under $10 million in the UK? Can you explain this? Can Henry draw UK movie goers?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
"Or maybe it boils down to an unlucky charm. Daniel Craig can’t seem to make it rain when he’s not James Bond. The Golden Compass, a first installment in what was to be a Narnia/Potter-esque franchise, took in a little over half its outlay. Daniel Craig, who featured prominently as Lord Asriel, killed the franchise like a dead polar bear in the snow. Want further evidence? In spite of having Harrison Ford as Craig’s co-star and the movie unpretentiously offering itself as a light popcorn flick, Cowboys and Aliens left its producers $63 million in debt.
Even with two ponies in the race, the actor once again failed to make box office gold this weekend. The Adventures of Tintin opened to a dismal $10 million (again, only if you’re generous in your rounding). And since this was an animated movie, he can’t be blamed for scaring the children off with his characteristic scowl.
So maybe it’s the actor’s gruff but soft tones killing his films. His acting style is all about subtlety to the point that he sometimes gets drowned out by supporting actors. And as welcome as a little diversity from the too-smooth charms of Hugh Grant and other traditional leading men is, Craig’s frosty on-screen persona and, shall we say, unconventional looks may be an audience turnoff." {Everyone knows it except that demented green vegetable at Eon and her potato headed brother

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
"If the studios are banking on getting their returns internationally, though, they could be in for a problem. The entire Larsson trilogy has already been adapted and released for Swedish audiences, and the whole world banded together like something out of a UN brochure to shower $100 million on the original. And since the first set of movies was well-liked by critics and plebes alike, foreign audiences might not be interested in seeing a potentially lesser adaptation.
The English version’s bad numbers could also have a nasty impact on the remainder of the US-made trilogy. Though screenwriter Steven Zaillian is busy working on the script for The Girl Who Played with Fire, the second book in the series, studios have been mum about whether they will greenlight the sequel, how much money they would be willing to put up…or who they’ll get to direct it." {Hollywood knows they booked a loser.}

It's a shame they're probably not going to make English language versions of The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest. I hate to say this but.... Why not just recast Blomkvist with someone who is not Craig?

Correct MP
You have won the million dollar answer
HE is the problem. IF done again, do not look for him to be in it. Put Pierce in the sequel, right FBF, and it will do 50% better at the box office here.
