‘Bond 23’ Film Restructured to Be Oscar Friendly?

Post by Goldeneye »

Some recycled news I'd count as a rumor for now.

Depressing Bond news
MENDES WANTS AN OSCAR: NEW BOND TO BE PERFORMANCE PIECE, LIGHT ON ACTION

Cubby Broccoli, the originator of the Bond franchise, must be rolling over in his grave.

Rumours are growing that new British director Sam Mendes is planning to ditch a host of stunts and action scenes from his first Bond film.

Insiders say the new film, expected to be called Skyfall, will be very different in tone as Mendes instead aims for “characterful performances” that will put his creation in the running for Oscar nominations.

That could put a lot of pressure on Daniel Craig, who will be making his third appearance as the British secret agent It will also provide a big opportunity for the 43-year-old who has said that he wanted to bring more “emotional depth” to the role.

This is what happens when you hire an “artiste” instead of a journeyman action director like Martin Campbell, who brought us “Goldeneye” and “Casino Royale.” First Marc Forster, an otherwise respectable director who nonetheless had never been near an action film, is allowed to ruin “Quantum of Solace,” and now the director of “American Beauty” is going to make a James Bond flick a “performance piece.”

What in the world is going on here?

Part of the problem is obviously Craig, who can’t bring himself to embrace the role for what it is.

‘Bond 23’ Film Restructured to Be Oscar Friendly?

James Bond will face its greatest challenge in his spy career—be a worthy Oscar contender next year.

British news site Express has reported Bond director Sam Mendes is paring down the stunt and action scenes to make way for more dramatic acting to make it more award-worthy.

“There are growing rumors Sam Mendes is cutting out the action scenes and making it Oscar-friendly,” an unnamed source told Express.

The site also reported that insiders claimed that “action scenes in India have all been axed” and scenes from Istanbul and Duntrune Castle in Aryll are “still there for the moment.”

James Bond will be facing a villain played by Javier Bardem, who won a supporting actor award in “No Country for Old Men.” And two-time Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes is rumored to play Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Fiennes was nominated for his role in “The English Patient,” and Schindler’s List.”

However, these rumored changes also have its critics.

“This could be a disaster in terms of sales at the box office,” a source told Express. “Given that this 007 needs to make at last £300 million to break even, it may be a very high price to pay for an Oscar nomination.”

It’s no surprised that the Daniel Craig’s James Bond will focus more on plot and character development. Don’t fret, James Bonds fans. I’m sure they will keep the action sequences that all of us Bond fans love. Let’s file this as another James Bond Internet rumor for now
Mazer & Alessandra can we tell from this £300 million rumor how big the budget is?

Daniel Craig to be seen in ‘emotional avatar’ in new Bond mo

Post by Goldeneye »

Daniel Craig to be seen in ‘emotional avatar’ in new Bond movie
London, Oct 23 (ANI): If rumours are to be believed then British director Sam Mendes is apparently planning to edit a host of stunts and action scenes from his much awaited first Bond film.

Contrary to its image of an action packed story, insiders have revealed that the upcoming Bond flick, is set in a completely different tone compared to its earlier sequences.

Mendes apparently wants his film to be more emotion-centric, combined with “characterful performances”, which will make his film a strong nominee for Oscars.

“There are growing rumours Sam Mendes is cutting out the action scenes and making it Oscar-friendly,” The Daily Express quoted a source as saying.

So, the diehard James Bond fans may this time see Daniel Craig in a whole new avatar, with more “emotional depth” to his role, as he wanted.

The 43-year-old star, who will be making his third appearance as the British secret agent, is expected to fight it out with villains played by Javier Bardem and ‘Ralph Fiennes’.

Insiders also maintain that the action scenes in India have all been axed. (ANI)

If the producers think Craig's Bond will win any acting oscars they have completley lost the plot :x
They're Buying all the "magic beans " from all of Craigs "lovie" chums, and can't see their Killing off
the series.
Still who knows mabey Sony are letting them run it down so thy can pick it up cheap, get their
own actor in and start making real Bond films again and watch the money come rolling in

Whoa. I was saying this is going to be a problem. d**n.

Did a currency converter $480 million us dollars to break even. So that means what? $240 million to make the whole movie in including all of the extras like advertising?

I thin it is going to be like Ale and Mazer said they will try like hell to break even on this one. $480 million should be a easy mark, unless this one really sucks and is killed by competition.

This has to suck a lot worse than QOS as well as failing to receive high profile American movie awards (especially the Oscars). Otherwise, we will not have a ROTJ victory. And would someone send in Mr. G to do the theme song for Bond 23?

Well, it may just be a load of Bamigboye, but it does fit with the news that the budget is likely to be pared down. Mendes may not have a choice in the matter.

FBF has been predicting this Oscar-worthy nonsense for years.........he was correct.........IF Eon goes on this new tangential disastrous trip, they can kiss the film good bye at the box office. I have NEVER seen such destruction to a franchise be leveled like this. Jackman awaits.............he's coming..........get ready...............

If Bond 23 receives EVEN a single Oscar nomination, then we forget about Jackman, Cavill, or any other traditional actors as Bonds. Instead, install Carrot Top as Bond.

Bond 23 must fail to beat CR and QOS at the box office (that includes the opening weekend) as well as failing to get attention from the Oscars. Otherwise, we're in serious trouble.

There has to be a whole bunch of movies next year, especially during the holiday season, that will make Bond 23 completely forgettable.

Oh,that's a given..given what we know about Bond 23 so far..it's not looking good. I'm willing to bet it barely makes it into movie theaters on time.

I wonder if Oscar friendly means,

Mabey Bond get disabled, always good for an Actor for an Oscar nomination.
Gets a Diesese of some kind and is looked after By a motherly M.
Helps a group of underprivileged Kids form a Football team againg great odds.
Overcomes a drinking problem that has alienated him from the other double o's
or some other Cliched to death Take on life, which the Looovies believe stupid
Bond fans like myself missed in every Film ever made before.

Unless it's in something like Best Sound Editing, in which case I doubt it will affect the casting of Bond 24 (though it would probably affect the choice of Sound Editor).

Even a single Oscar nomination would be an insult not only to Pierce as Bond but also to other icons of the entire pop culture. Darth Vader, Homer Simpson......you name them. You may as well as cast Carrot Top as the next Bond.

You do not make bond movie to win a oscar! Everyone who had the role has said it. I am afraid when they do make a bond mvoie to win an Oscar they will permanently ruin the bond magic. Like Lucas did to star wars. Hard to watch the original trilogy and see it the same after the prequels :skull:

Ruin the magic? It's MUCH, MUCH worse than that. More like defiling the image and meaning of pop culture if you ask me.
Like Lucas did to star wars. Hard to watch the original trilogy and see it the same after the prequels :skull:
Put it this way. You DO NOT make a Bond movie to get nominated/awarded an Oscar when you have DC in the role. SW prequels look more like an Oscar winner/nominee a billion times compare to any DC Bond films.
