bjmdds wrote:"A week after its release, the L.A. Times reported that Sheridan (My Left Foot and In America) had, at one point, asked the Directors Guild of America to remove his name from the film. Dream House was shot in Toronto back in January of 2010 and was scheduled to open last February. But, first, reshoots were called for and the production company, Morgan’s Creek Productions, took the film away from Sheridan, who then petitioned the DGA to have his name removed.

Eventually a compromise was reached, though the creative schism seems to have ruined the film. The movie’s official trailer, attempting to focus on the horror angle, casually gives away the central psychological plot twist. It’s no surprise that Sheridan declined to do any promotion for the film. Weisz and Craig were also apparently unhappy with the final cut made by Morgan Creek and refused to do press or promotion for the picture."
Like Kristatos said, irony is he's the only one getting any praise apparently. Guess he knew what he was dealing with and thought he'd better run, despite his good effort  It's the Craigster effect!
More wonderful news: "The actor could not reveal much about the role or about the newest Bond flick, but he’s had the role in mind for months.

"They're changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic," Bardem said. "I'd be playing Bond's nemesis, yes, but it's not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It's very intriguing."
we were commenting exactly about this in the Bond 23/news section and it's yet another of those d**n things that makes me think Bond 23 is going to be American Beauty: the Bond Years. And I certainly do NOT mean that as a compliment, but as in it seems like they're handling this ALL wrong and the same exact awful way as QoS. Good Lord. I hope it doesn't tank the franchise for good, but if this is how it's going, they're gonna get a good opening day (out of curiosity people WILL go on the first day) and then they're going to PLUMMET.
http://honoluluweekly.com/film/current- ... g-lessons/ "Daniel Craig (shirtless and clueless)" / " This movie is a strong contender for the worst of the year. This thing, in a word, stinks." How can EON keep pimping this bowl of putrid porridge as their lead actor?
bowl of putrid porridge LMAO! you NEVER fail to deliver, BJ.  As far as EON, the answer is: because they're EON! Extremely Overtly Negligent!
They will have to use several layers of fake tan. Maybe they should use some CGI on his face as fake tan can only do so much.
 I say go CGI on his face... the fake tan can only hide that much. I can't believe we have to have THIS type of talk about JAMES BOND. WHAT THE HELL!!!! :cuss:
9 p.m.

CBS: "Person of Interest" (11.9 million, 7.4/11)
FOX: "The X Factor" (11.1 million, 6.5/10)
ABC: "Grey's Anatomy" (9.7 million, 6.5/10)
NBC: "The Office" (6.05 million, 3.6/6)/"Whitney" (4.2 million, 2.7/4)
The CW: "The Secret Circle" (1.8 million, 1.2/2) Ale's Person Of Interest is now numero uno at 9:00pm beating out Cowell's bombing X Factor at 9:00pm. She knows her onions, does our Miss Ale :!: I think she deserves a brunch with the green vegetable. :happy spin:
I am SO glad about Person of Interest.. frankly I don't always hold out much hope for stuff I like because well, I tend to like stuff that sometimes is too well-made for everyone to understand how good it is, especially in the days of Jersey freaking Shore. But this one seems to have reverted the trend and I am SO glad about it. I want to puke at the idea Grey's Anatomy does BETTER in the 18-49 demo generally speaking, but I'm just glad my new favorite show is definitely doing well.

You give me that meeting BJ, and I guarantee two results: Craigster being given the boot (and I will take the pleasure of doing that myself while wearing stilettos) and the green vegetable being aaaall over Henry Cavill so much so that she'll hire him in a SECOND. I'll then take care of the rest  (get rid of her and whatnot LOL)

As far as Footloose... I thought it was going to be atrocious because I followed the development from the start and it was a DISASTER with lots of people changing and pulling out of the project. The end result though is that it is NOT so bad as I expected, and those I've spoken to that have seen screenings have said that the movie is actually quite enjoyable (I spoke with people who had seen the original and I LOVE the original). In particular, it seems like dude who is the lead guy (replacing Kevin Bacon) is actually one of the best features of the movie. And the movie is the EXACT copy of the original (songs, what happens, etc...). So it could be the equivalent of what we had, but for the new generation. Anyhow I think it's not going to bomb.. in fact this is the expected outcome:
Box Office Report: 'Footloose' Off to Strong Start, Could Reach $20 Mil for Weekend via @THR's Pamela McClintock shar.es/bgTN4
I did think it would be a tragic bomb when it started but it seems like it won't be (we'll see what happens). And I like Blake Shelton's re-make of the Footloose song. The original is better of course, but he did a good job.

If Footloose keeps it up and performs as expected, we will be able to laugh at the Craigster's latest box office result even more. It's bad when you're beaten by a Footloose remake with mostly unknown new actors (other than Dennis Quaid playing the role of the pastor. Love you Dennis, ALWAYS!)

Just read from Variety... Top Gun sequel coming up! At least it's a sequel and not a remake, and Tony Scott and Tom Cruise will most likely be involved....
'X-Men' team hired to pen 'Top Gun' sequel
Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz hired by Paramount and Skydance Productions
By Jeff Sneider, Justin Kroll

Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who collaborated on the script for "X-Men: First Class," are in negotiations to pen the sequel to "Top Gun" for Paramount and Skydance Productions.

Jerry Bruchkheimer and David Ellison are on board to produce. Paramount and Skydance declined to comment.

Plot details are nil, as Miller and Stentz have yet to write a script. And no news yet on Tony Scott or Tom Cruise's invovlement, but the addition of Miller and Stentz to the mix shows that Par is serious about moving forward with the project.

The team helped steer the way for "X-Men" franchise's best-received pic, which led to a solid B.O. of more than $350 million worldwide.

Miller and Stentz are repped by WME.

And who's the man to be the new Mav? Henry Cavill of course. I swear the dude is the perfect leading man for ANY action hero. I could actually see Colin Egglesfield, too... he's more of the romantic comedy type, but if trained properly I'm sure he could do a good job. I take it it's a given that Ryan Reynolds will be the new Iceman. It's a sequel and not a remake, but they obviously need the same set of characters for it to work... or it wouldn't be called Top Gun 2. And Val Kilmer is in no condition to make an appearance, he looks AWFUL these days. Rick Rossovich on the other hand aged VERY well and he's still in great shape, so we may get Maverick and Slider.

But The Hobbit doesn't open until 4 weeks after Spyfail, and so won't have much of an effect on its box office. If you want to hurt Spyfail, the movie you should be getting behind is McG's Ouija, which opens against it and is competing for the same predominantly young male demographic.

Or perhaps not. I went on YouTube to try and find a trailer for Ouija and found this instead.

Italian police fired tear gas and water cannons at protesters after some smashed shop and bank windows, torched cars and hurled bottles.
TV footage showed police in riot gear charging the protesters and firing water cannons at them. A small group of violent protesters broke away from the main demonstration in the Italian capital, part of worldwide protests against corporate greed and austerity measures.
The ANSA news agency said some protesters trashed offices of the Defense Ministry and of a labor agency, smashing windows with clubs, throwing paper bombs and firecrackers and setting cars on fire.
Most of the violence took place near the Colosseum.
Some 100,000 protesters were expected a day after Premier Silvio Berlusconi barely survived a confidence vote. Italy, with a national debt ratio second only to Greece in the 17-nation eurozone, is rapidly becoming a focus of concern in Europe's debt crisis.

I was just watching this on TV. I'm glad the police did what they did and dispersed them. That's the way to deal with it. Tear gas and water cannons, and the violent delinquents are taken care of rapidly. This is failing to report they also arrested a dozen of them though. And yes it was a TINY group compared to the amount of more than peaceful demonstrators that were there (and they are right to peacefully protest since we have an utter idiot as a Prime Minister, not to mention prostitute-addicted and under trial for an amount of offenses that would make ANYONE blush). It's about 200,000 people out there so this REALLY is a tiny minority compared to the number of peaceful people who just protest with banners and whatnot, but minority or not they must be taken care of. And I'm glad that's what they're doing.

No it's not. Not the city anyway. The only things they managed to set on fire were a few cars in a street, a few dumpsters and a police vehicle. They set a scaffold on fire and firefighters put it off right away. All the stuff they set on fire that I mentioned has already been taken care of, and we are watching live coverage all over town. No things on fire anymore. Which doesn't change the gravity of what happened throughout the afternoon, let it be clear. But this is NOWHERE near as bad as what happened in London and the like. And it lasted 4 hours total, not days.

The BO numbers are looking weaker as the year goes on;
Is it the movies?
Will Bond 23 and The Hobbit be strong enough names to pull in enough money next year?
If they do not will it cripple MGM again to send Bond off to another indefinite hiatus?

I wonder if this is a new trend, can it be written off to unimaginative movies in a bad economy.
3RD UPDATE (includes full analysis): Seriously, do movie moguls get into showbiz just to greenlight >unnecessary remakes of teen movies and prequels to horror movies or unfunny comedies that humiliate big stars like Friday’s 3-film fare? Maybe that’s why audiences are rebelling. The North American box office is looking very weak again for this weekend. As a longtime studio exec worried out loud to me Friday night: “I’m really concerned about how soft things are. Numbers were looking better during the day. But I’m sitting here looking at grosses tonight and I’m concerned for the Industry. What’s worrying me is where are those hardcore movie fans at this point?” Well, I say Hollywood should expect the worst when they release a lot of dreadful pics over recent weeks. This weekend’s total gross won’t edge much over $80M — which is a whopping -35% from last year when Jackass 3D opened to $50M. (I know what you’re thinking: Who are the jackasses now?) This is not a good situation for the studios to be in as moviegoing enters the all-important holiday season:

1. Footloose (Paramount) NEW [3,549 Theaters]
Friday $5.6M, Estimated Weekend $16.5M

Ask Paramount why a reboot of Footloose was even necessary and the sheepish answer is that the 2011 version cost just $24M and the bosses expected to make their money back this first weekend. But they didn’t: it’s a really mediocre opening even if the pic is #1. ”Ultimately there are a number of elements to a studio’s portfolio,” one exec explained to me. “Some movies are original. Some movies are risks. And sometimes you look for opputunities for good investments like this.” This spreadsheet mentality is exactly the sort of bloodless filmmaking which drives creatives crazy about Hollywood. But it’s not only the moguls at fault: Craig Brewer went from writing and directing such edgy fare as Black Snake Moan and Hustle & Flow to helming and earning a screenplay credit on this script from Dean Pitchford who authored the book of the Footloose musical on Broadway. (I can only surmise that Brewer needed a gig.) Of course the studio has told me 4 times in 12 hours that audiences gave the remake an ‘A’ CinemaScore which justified the positive reviews of this virtual shot-by-shot update. Marketed first as an inspirational story of empowerment, the campaign was craven enough to sell Footloose-styled sneakers on the Home Shopping Network. Traffic at first lagged despite high awareness of the iconic original until wannasee picked up at the end because of the relentless promotion.

There had been an extensive word-of-mouth screening program for young girls during the summer at places like cheerleading camps and then a follow-up Facebook/Twitter campaign to get them talking about this virtual shot-by-shot update. Exit polls showed it appealed to females (75%) and captured 28% of the teen market. As many as 60% of moviegoers were over age 25 and 46% over age 35 because of the nostalgia factor. As expected, the film played in the Midwest, Southwest, and South: the so-called American heartland which Hollywood generally derides as ‘flyover’ country. As a result, Paramount bought deeper in Southern/Middle American 30 local TV markets and outdoor to take advantage of this film’s appeal there. For instance, the studio put key art on over 1 million Greyhound bus jackets, with Footloose posters and counter cards at 90+ depots. I’m told the 20 highest grossing locations Friday were in Salt Lake City, Oklahoma City, Knoxville, Kansas City, and San Antonio. And remember that Paramount’s Viacom sister company is Country Music Television where there was considerable hardsell including a Footloose takeover, a CMT-hosted Nashville film premiere, and an on-air “Footloose Week”.

Also utilized was sister company MTV’s VMA Awards including pushes during the pre-VMA original Jersey Shore, VMA Pre-Show, and during the live VMA show. MTV also promoted vignettes showing how MTV’s talent/prime time shows “Cut Loose”. Still another sister company, Nickelodeon, showed custom spots featuring Nickelodeon’s star Victoria Justice talking about her role on the Footloose soundtrack. Paramount used all those TV dance contests to pitch the pic, kicking off the campaign with the debut of the Footloose trailer on June 22nd’s So You Think You Can Dance and culminating with lead Julianne Hough’s emotion-exploiting stunt returning to October 11th’s Dancing With The Stars to perform a 4-minute number to Footloose music with co-star Kenny Wormaid. Speaking of Wormaid, he’s no Kevin Bacon (who blessed this reboot). After seeing something like 30 TV spots of him gyrating, I still can’t pick this new guy out of a police lineup.

The US and Europe, are in very serious trouble, and its getting worse.

Did u here today the story about Michele Obama who was staying at a residence abroad near a port where there just happened to be a British warship, and she told her security men to ask the Captain of the RN vessel if the Sea Dart missiles could be pointed away from her residence.
Who does she think she is?...........anyway the missiles were not operational types, and as if a RN sailor would fire a missile at her.......they are not designed to home in on big flabby humans. :)
