Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I doubt it'll be number 1. It's opening against three other wide releases, including a 3D re-release of The Lion King. However, it'll be after the summer blockbuster season has finished, when a movie can get to number 1 with a relatively low opening weekend, so who knows? The other two wide releases are an action movie called Drive and the remake of Straw Dogs, so it's a fairly diverse crowd. making it hard to spot an obvious winner.FormerBondFan wrote:Speaking of non-Bond films from a Bond actor, how well will this do at the box office, and will it be #1 at the US box office?
Did anyone else notice that the alarm clock at the beginning of the trailer said "CRAIG" on it?

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/char ... -29&p=.htm As I hoped for, the Smurfs outdid Cr-egg's cowboy calamity! What a revolting result for Spielberg, Howard and Favreau! NOW studios will be forced to take notice that Danielle has NO appeal to the masses after a huge advertising blitz to boot, including THIS very website.
I am eccccccccccc-static about this and the aftermath in the boardrooms should spell the quickened end for Cr-egg as Bond. FBF, victory is almost assured if the apes drop the cowboy to 4th next weekend!

I said SMurfs could beat CVA 6 or more months age as it got close to the day I doubted it becuase the few ads out there looked idiotic.
Mazer was right and it was lass than $15 million

BO mojo
1. The Smurfs $13,300,000
2. Cowboys & Aliens $12,994,000
3. Captain America $7,860,000

From your point of view though 'BJ'..........if film does tank, don't you think that Craig will think, well my non Bond films dont do that well, but i can always go back to Bond?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Yeah I think he is seeing his non Bond career crumble before his eyes, he got $6 million to make CVA, now future directors have to ask themselves why pay him that much and who else might draw in a crowd.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo might be his one salvation but since 2005 he has not found one role to do well or a film that his being there has helped.
Beyond the Bond name his name isn't worth much not in America or anywhere else it looks.
Did he pick bad mvoies? Is it him?
I thought if CvA took off it would be testament to him, he was, from the ad doing his Bond thing.

EAI thought Smurfs were an American show! There were everywhere when I was young, and that was years after the popularity they had when my Bothers and sisters were right age for them!

Mazer was right and it was lass than $15 million, How is it doing in the uk?

Cowboys and Aliens isnt released in the UK until the 17th August, by then we should know if its worth going to see.
It does appear though that Craig doesn't seem to have a strong folowing in America.
Regarding Smurfs, apparently they were created by a Belgian man who then had them made into a comic book series.
Later the Americans turned them into an animated TV series.

Exactly. With the notable exception of Connery (of course, who are we kidding? he's a legend) this is a curse every Bond actor goes through in their non-Bond career when audiences show little interest in their work outside Bond. Brosnan has one modest hit (Thomas Crown Affair) but besides that not much.Kristatos wrote:He's not marketable outside Bond.bjmdds wrote:Spielberg/Howard/Favreau=morons for banking on Danielle as the lead in this sci-fi western junkola! I hope Q is correct in only a $15 million opening day. IF correct, and he usually is, VICTORY for those who know that Cr-egg is not marketable and should leave town at once as Bond.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
The only way C&A will survive in the US is if the film has good word of mouth.....but i somehow don't think that will happen.
Like Craigs other big non-Bond film in recent years 'The Golden Compass', which also performed poorly in North America, it remains to be seen if the film will be better received Internationally.
Daniel Craig does seem to suffer, what i call the Timothy Dalton syndrome in America, but to a lesser degree.
Well, no wonder DC is looking forward to Bond 23......maybe he had an inkling that C&A wouldn't be that greatly received.
Anyway.......what i want to know is.........where's' BJ, Ale and Katied' ? Are they having a few drinks tonight?

True, SUPER 8 wasn't very good either. I don't think there has been a Spielberg produced flick that I liked in quite awhile. Have you seen the previews of REAL STEAL?

Rock 'Em Sock 'Em: The Movie, starring BJ's favorite leading actor. Thanks Mr. Spielberg, as if three TRANSFORMERS flicks wasn't enough.

No. It's not Cr-egg's call any longer and hopefully it won't be the green vegetable's either. It should be the financiers decision to release the egg from his contract with their proof he is not a box office draw and Jackman or Cavill could very well do immensely better. The tide has turned for EIN(Everything Is Nothing). Their Bond boat is a sinking ship and Danielle is the captain of that failed vessel. He can say anything he wants now. It just won't matter. The proof is in the box office pudding and his is now all fudge!English Agent wrote:Yeah.......thats certainly a very dissapointing opening Friday for C&A.......i wonder why?bjmdds wrote:http://www.boxofficemojo.com/daily/char ... -29&p=.htm As I hoped for, the Smurfs outdid Cr-egg's cowboy calamity! Where did I even comment on that masterpiece of clattering collagenous graphite? I never heard of that film. Why would Jackman even bother? But, it will do better than Roy Rogers because even in a weird film, Jackman IS a box office draw.katied wrote:Sorry BJ, but that's dreadful. I can't defend Hugh on that one.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Real Steel isn't the worst movie(I think that award probably has to go to Cowboys Versus Aliens ..or any of the Saturday Night Live based movies that *aren't* Waynes World.

As long as the Bond films do fine it is irrelevant how the non-Bond titles perform. You think EON gave a hoot over how well Dante's Peak performed?bjmdds wrote:No. It's not Cr-egg's call any longer and hopefully it won't be the green vegetable's either.
