l might go to Captain America, RTD or a young Harrison Ford might have save CvA I think it's got bomb written all over it but as Mazer said it will probably be #1 this weekend. Not much of a #1 if the Bo mojo derby is right.

Here is a lighter post. A nice slam at about the 45 second mark. Only about a minute long: clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiIW1uDZyHQ In 1964 when Goldfinger was released, this film made it to number 11 of the top 20 box office hits of that year. Times have surely changed.

I'd love to see a worldwide version of that chart, but it would be impossible to compile a meaningful one due to currency exchange rates etc. Pity, I think it would be interesting.

Here's a UK all-time top 100 (by attendance) that features 8 Bond films, including that notorious flop Die Another Day. I was initially pleased that neither Craig film was in there, but then I noticed that the list dates back to 2003. Oh well, can't win 'em all.

Mazer Rackham wrote:Do not under estimate Cowboys and Aliens there is a good team behind it. Doesn't mean they made a good movie but it likely means they can make a profitable one. It is a Universal film so it will not have a bloated budget, cost around $100m at a minimum (not counting P&A). Not a huge leap to profitability, still it is a risk, one I know people are nervous about. Still they did their best to make the film able to stand on its own.

Consider if Cowboys and Aliens does not do well it will hurt the Craig "brand", but the movie had a ton of problems long before Craig signed on (-lying his way into the role).
Mazer you said $100 million, another story has $163 million and another $180 million?
They say it will maybe make $45 million this weekend I don't think there can be any doubt if this does happen it will be a 'flop'.

For your reference 'Kris'

UK estimated admissions for:-

Casino Royale 10,423,140

Quantum of Solace 9,883,562

(Figures obtained from a European film data source which tracks film admissions)

Yes since Bond was somewhat reborn in 1995 with Goldeneye, the UK admissions for the Bond films has gone up with each subsequent film until.......QOS.

QOS had a record start in the UK, based on the high expectancy level after CR....but after the first 2 weeks or so on release the attendance level dwindled somewhat, obviously due to poor word of mouth!

Hands up in the air.............to all our North American friends who will be seeing C&A this weekend?

YEP..........i knew no one had put there hands up. :D

Seriously though, if the film is reasonably well received across the Pond, i may go and see the film when it arrives in the UK, mainly out of curiosity, to see how two completly different film genres blend together, and also to see how well (or not) Craig carries the lead role in a non-Bond film.

'FBF'

Potter is blasting its way to a Billion dollars quickly...........film has already reached 900mil in record time, and still going strong.

Dont forget, film opens in China soon, which will give a big boost to the international figure.

What do you guess.....worldwide gross somewhere around 1.2 bil?

I must admit 'BJ'.........if someone had shown me prior to CR the picture on the left, that this man would be the future Bond....i would of been quite shocked.

Correct EA. FBF, it did it. It broke Avatar's record! Keep opening the wallets. We are not over $1 billion.......YET! It's just about even with Captain America now day to day and will outlast the Captain by the weekend. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3229&p=.htm

Back when Pierce was Bond, Harry Potter (though I enjoy the films) was my enemy as he threatened Bond's audience popularity along with many other famous figures like the Jedi Knights and Indy. Thanks to Pierce's unfair dismissal and DC in the part, Bond is now my enemy. Put it this way, my enemy's enemy is my friend.
