But so far there's no Bond in sight. Broccoli and Wilson, her half-brother -- were schooled in the Bond tradition by the late, legendary Bond producer Cubby Broccoli -- often don't agree with each other on the casting possibilities, according to talent agents. One source close to the movie reported that Broccoli liked "Layer Cake" star Daniel Craig, 37, but Wilson didn't.

I am fond of Mazer's contributions to this site as well. 8)

Stockslivevan, from what I can gather, getting Craig cast as 007 was a personal pet project of Broccoli's. I think Wilson was fond of the reboot idea, but had someone else in mind to play the "new" Bond. The studios wanted Brosnan in Bond 21 because he was a guaranteed moneymaker, but they probably wouldn't have wanted to spend as much money as they did on Die Another Day.

In hindsight it would have been better for EON to have made another Bond film with: 1. Pierce Brosnan 2. A smaller budget 3. A more "down-to-earth" script and 4. A reduced amount of CGI in comparison to the amount used in Die Another Day.

I'm sure we'll get a "where did you get that from?" sort of response but :? .. I would have been interested to see who Wilson would have rebooted the series with, if his sister hadn't insisted.

They could have achieved all that just by retaining Pierce and using Purvis and Wade's original script for CR (which didn't require a reboot).

Interesting news bit, it seems Wilson was a lot like audiences concerning Craig as being skeptical. In the end, he was swayed. Thanks!

Don't even begin to question our Q. Unlike other forums, there are people here in the know and they are always correct with the facts. MGW was bought off and emasculated by his cruciferous evil sister, and he must be a spineless wimp.

First he is a liar and when he proves Wilson didn't want the pouting box office bomber, then Wilson has to be a convert to the church of Bourne Again Bond.I'll have some the drugs you are on!

1. I doubted BJ because I never considered him to be reliable with the facts given his overly emotional outbursts when it comes to Craig.
2. I never called Mazer a liar, he presented the report and I accept it.
3. If Wilson is a "convert" then I guess that makes a whole lot of Bond fans in general "converts". A lot of people had change of hearts after Casino Royale came out, I don't think it is outside the realm of possibility that Wilson was impressed over Craig if his blu-ray commentary is anything to go by. He has always come off as a very honest and sincere man.
4. I'm drug free, so you'll have to make a deal elsewhere. :P

I don't think MGW is a convert to anything I just don't think he'd ever say if he likes are dislikes any of their actors. He could hate his sister passionately, he could hate Pierce. He will never do a thing but smile.

Craig has plenty of poeple with a good "Bond pedigree" who dislike him as BOND this idea that he is loved unconditionally by everyone is a joke. I'd don't even hate him, I like more of the Dalton Pierce bond than what they have made since 2006 when they started to take themselves too seriously. Which Craig does, he doesn't have fun with the role and it shows in the movie. That's what my friend says is wrong with Dalton's movies he looks like he is constipated. I do see it although Dalton did the working Bond and connoisseur pretty well IMO. Craig approaches it like working class guy who resents people who have the finer things in life. No worse like rapper who suddenly makes it and tires to act like he was always had class by scowling at you while wearing a $4000 fur coat in a off the show room floor Bentley.

I don't quite see that kind of resentment in Craig's Bond, who has been shown to relish in the finer things in life (the dinner scene in CR, the 5 star hotel bit in QOS). But I would never say he's universally accepted. No Bond is, though Connery comes VERY close. All Bonds have their detractors whether they're the casual lot or Fleming aficionados.

Outbursts? I state my very strong personaI opinions. I never said you called anyone a liar. I just let you know that unlike other forums you represent, there are people here with real knowledge so you could actually learn the behind the scenes dealings here vs. other EIN shill sites that churn out spin. I don't do drugs either, whatever you were referring to.

Even though the shilliness of MI6 has been neutered somewhat(quite a few sock puppets now  ) its reputation as a shill site is well known.

Exactly Mazer. I've heard the story from many different people involved in the business. Both about Wilson and about MGM/Sony. It's basically common knowledge for those who are actually involved at some stage or the other... not that it should surprise anyone. Years after, the truth came out about Cavill too (since he himself graciously explained how he was the last one standing and the choice was between him and Craig, which well, we knew, right Mazer ) and about Campbell wanting him, not Craig, as Bond. Not like it is a mystery that basically only Babs wanted Craig at all costs and she clearly had it her own way because of her position.

I don't want to use the word "denial"......but I think there are a lot of diehard pro-Craigs who just won't accept facts even when they're put out there in black and white. :|

"These are matters of undeniable facts", Jorel to his fellow Kryptonians in Superman I, as are the statements of Ms. Bouvier and Q here. Do not doubt their truth.

I agree Katied, many Fans of Craig just don't seem capable of accepting the sad Fact that He hasn't worked. His movies aren't the success they are supposed to be.His take on Bond is alien to any of the other actors who've played Bond. And the Public seem to stay away from his Movies, Which I do find strange given how I'm always told how sexy he is and how he always tops the list of womens desires of Men.

We're supposed to like his non-Bond fims because of the fact he's James Bond? Ummm no. Not buying it. :|
