Who's bright Idea was it to give GL a $200m budget? Wonder if it has the cost of other failed attempts tacked on, that is about the only explanation that makes sense because giving an unproven commodity a budget bigger than a Bond movie can get approval for is crazy. It might be OK for a proven sequel.

A reject from Adventureland playing a superhero did not cut it. With a huge $200 million budget, they are way off breaking even, let alone showing a profit. These casting directors are clueless in Hollywood. Reynolds is not the Green Lantern, Clooney was not Batman, and Ms. Danielle Cr-egg is not Bond. Downey jr. pulls it off as Iron Man, not Holmes though. Norton was fine as the Hulk's alter ego, but that storyline does not attract attention for some reason. By the way, no Will Smith summer blockbusters anymore? I thought he was overrated from day one.
Ryan Reynolds.....i've never heard of him!
I dont think anyone outside North America knows much about either Ryan Reynolds or The Green Lantern....the foreign BO so far is pretty disastrous for a film costing $200 mil.
Looks like the studio didnt do there marketing research very well for this pic.

EA
Ryan Reynolds has been in lots of things (romantic comedies, action films) and is well known I think.

Apparently Olivia Wilde just missed out for the role of Vesper.
However, things could have turned out quite differently for the 27-year-old actress if she had landed the role of James Bond's (Daniel Craig) love interest, Vesper Lynd, in director Martin Campbell's Casino Royale, a role that she wanted "so badly," but which ultimately went to British actress Eva Green. In a recent interview with Total Film Magazine, Wilde said that she is "happy it didn't work out" on Casino Royale because then she "wouldn't have been able to do" Cowboys and Aliens alongside Craig. She said the sci-fi and Western mash-up movie is "a better pairing" for her and Craig

I do not think she was right for the role paired with Daniel (not that Green was a good catch either), however with a younger man, oh, say Henry Cavill it could have been a historic paring.

Kris and I were talking about this in the movie section, The Incredibles Brad Bird directing it may have some possibilities.

I found this excerpt in today's news scavenging
The "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" trailer looks like a jazzed up James Bond movie from the 1990s, running wild with explosions, chase scenes and exotic cars that nobody actually drives.

But "Ghost Protocol" also has a pretty interesting cast of talented actors, which has also become the norm for a big-budget action movie.

Tom Wilkinson, who can hit the right tone in just about any genre, enters the series as a CIA bigwig bringing Tom Cruise his latest impossible mission. Jeremy Renner co-stars as an enigmatic agent posing as an assistant.

Comedian Simon Pegg also looks like a good fit as the quirky gadget guy and you have little known Paula Patton as the beautiful agent turned likely love interest. The plot is a little vague in the trailer, but expect it to be as over-the-top and as outlandish as it was in the first three in the series.

Eon has lost it's way. She is NOT Moneypenny but after seeing Bond in drag nothing surprises me any longer. I am almost done with this franchise the way things are going.

Blimey...........i've got a strange feeling that Bond 23 is going to be a very unusual Bond film!

Correct Sweeney. Since 1995 with Barbara pushing her ailing daddy to go feminista with Bond, we have experienced a redefining of the major players and it is now becoming obvious Eon is through with Bond as it was. Enough is enough, from the anti-UK and anti-USA undertones in the Quantum Of Trash, to this redefining of the characters! Cavill might run and hide now from this pile of rubbish!
