You Only Die Twice: Shocked Woman Passes After Waking Up At Own Funeral

It turns out that James Bond was right -- you really do only live twice. Such is the case for a woman in Russia that died for a ‘second’ time while prayers were being said over her at her own funeral. The forty-nine year old woman had been declared dead after a heart attack, but was either not quite dead, or came back to life only to die twelve minutes later from a second heart attack.

The Daily Mail reported the woman’s second death. Hospital official Minsalih Sahapov said, “We are carrying out an investigation.” Unfortunately this does little so assuage the anger and frustration felt by Fagilyu Mukhametzyanov’s husband Fagili over what must feel like a preventable death. He said:

'Her eyes fluttered and we immediately rushed her back to the hospital but she only lived for another 12 minutes in intensive care before she died again, this time for good. 'I am very angry and want answers. She wasn’t dead when they said she was and they could have saved her.'

The idea of attending one’s own funeral has always been intriguing; but this isn’t quite how Tom Sawyer envisioned it. If there is a bright side, it’s that she didn’t go Ryan Reynolds on this endeavor and wake up after she was buried. The only thing worse than that would be waking up right before cremation, ala Diamonds Are Forever. Regardless, my condolences are with the husband of the deceased woman; losing a loved one once is hard enough -- but to lose them twice? That’s killer.
