007 Film "Dream Team": You Pick the Starting Five

Here is an idea that I got watching all the basketball games this month in the United States.
In basketball (and other sports) fans often talk about what their "Dream Team" would be. Five players, one for each position, that you think would make the best starting lineup in the history of the sport. For instance, here is my basketball "Dream Team":
Center: Wilt Chamberlain
Power Forward: Tim Duncan
Small Forward: Larry Bird
Shooting Guard: Michael Jordan
Point Guard: Magic Johnson
See, simple enough. Even if you know very little about basketball you probably recognize most of those names as famous basketball players.
So, the premise of this thread is that you want to produce a Bond film, and you want it to be the best ever. You can pick anyone from the films, but you have to stick to the positions. My basketball lineup can't have Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O'Neal, Bill Russell, and Moses Malone because they all play(ed) the center position. So here are the "Bond" positions:
1) James Bond: The center of attention that anchors the entire lineup.
2) Arch Nemesis: A powerful antagonist that garners the audience's attention and serves as a formidable foe for Bond.
3) Bond Henchman/woman: A rough and tough strongman that fights Bond, or a beautiful femme fatale that seduces Bond, but both want Bond dead!
4) Bond Girl: A great Bond Girl isn't just an attractive woman. A great Bond Girl needs grace, charm, sophistication, and must not be annoying.
5) Director: Just like a point guard directs the court, a competent director needs to bring all the Bond elements together.

My "Dream Team"
James Bond: Sean Connery
Arch Nemesis: Telly Savalas
Henchman/woman: Luciana Paluzzi
Bond Girl: Maud Adams
Director: Lewis Gilbert
James Bond: Sean Connery
-My favorite Bond is Roger Moore, but the best Bond is Connery. He's simply a superstar. He started the franchise, and helped recover the franchise playing James Bond. He even had a hit outside of EON playing James Bond. Furthermore, when fans, critics, or average moviegoers are asked "Who is the best James Bond?" The answer is more often than not, "Sean Connery". If you want to have a hit Bond film, Connery is a very safe bet.
Arch Nemesis: Telly Savalas
-Savalas was a great actor who portrayed Blofeld better than anyone else. Not only was he a great Blofeld, but he was good enough to play any kind of arch nemesis. He had the look, the talent, and the appeal to be a great Bond nemesis in any era.
Henchman/women: Luciana Paluzzi (Fiona Volpe).
-What a formidable opponent! Looks, attitude, sexuality, killer instinct. She easily avoided being swept away by Bond's own charm, and came very close to getting Bond killed for SPECTRE. Paluzzi established the Bond femme fatale character that was used immediately again in YOLT, and many times since.
Bond Girl: Maud Adams
-Attractive, charming, not annoying, and versatile because she played Anders in TMWTGG, and played Octopussy! Thus, proving that she wasn't a female lead who just "looked the part", but could add to the film as well.
Director: Lewis Gilbert
-The king of "epic Bond films" who directed the blockbuster hit Moonraker. His films truly "have it all", and he was able to revitalize and revamp Moore's approach to Bond in a successful manner.

Funny to see we both Picked Telly Savalas as a Villain and I agree L Gilbert knew how to direct an Epic.

I also agree that T.Savalas would also be top contender for main villian, he just has the looks and presence.
Regarding John Carpenter as director, that could be a good choice, i'am a fan of his films, but he would probably make the villian like Michael Myers, and wearing a William Shatner mask!

T Savalas looked like he could take Bond on in a fight, and he could be very suave In many ways Bond's equal. But for real horror English Agent, why not have William shatner in a D Craig mask.

Great picks, Thunderpussy! Barbara Bach is on my short list for Bond Girl, but you can only pick one. Hmm, I wonder if Dalton's Bond would have been different if he had Lewis Gilbert directing him instead of John Glen?Thunderpussy wrote:Thunderpussy » Sun Mar 27, 2011 7:38 pm

Captain, can't you narrow down your pick for James Bond? You can't put six players out on the court! I'm guessing you'd pick Moore.
John Drake, you can't put every Bond Girl on the court either, although that would make for a great cheerleader squad. Forced to choose, which Bond Girl makes the lineup?

Taken from existing films:
Bond: Timothy Dalton
Main villain: Donald Pleasance as Blofeld
Henchman: Jaws
Bond Girl: Solitaire (Jane Seymour)
Director: Terence Young
I like Lewis Gilbert, but I'd have been interested to see what Young would have done with Jaws. I've a feeling he'd have cut down on the comedy and made him even more menacing that he was in TSWLM. For that reason, I picked Pleasance's Blofeld over Savalas's, because with a henchman as powerful as Jaws, the Big Bad wouldn't need to be as physically threatening. In fact, I think it would overbalance the film if he was.

James Bond: Pierce Brosnan
Arch Nemesis: Blofeld
Bond Henchman: Dr. Kaufman & Stamper
Bond Girl: Kara Milovy
Director: Director of OHMSS
I don't think I or anyone else would want to use the Bond villains as seen in CR and QoS. Sure the CR villains are from the book but they sucked on screen.

Great lists so far! Hopefully some of you will be able to narrow down some of your choices.
My spouse and Omega brought an idea to mind. Some of the Henchmen/women are groups of people. Like the Three Blind Mice, Bambi and Thumper, Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd, etc. Those groups can count as one position.
Do you folks who answered "Blofeld" have an actor you prefer playing the role?
My wife, a casual Bond fan, got it on the fun (granted she hasn't seen every film, yet):
James Bond: Sean Connery
Arch Nemesis: Christopher Walken
Henchman/woman: Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd
Bond Girl: Jill St. John
Director: "Whoever the guy was that directed On Her Majesty's Secret Service" (Peter Hunt)

A rumor that George W. Bush was going to be a villain? When were these rumors being spread? Would there have been a frogman assault on Bush's ranch for the film's finale?Kristatos wrote:My nightmare team from within the Bond Series is exactly the same as Thunderpussy's. When Bush was still President. I doubt it was ever seriously considered. My guess is that someone said it as a joke, and it somehow got picked up as a real story.Bond77 wrote:
