C&A can still be successful even if it opens #2 at the US BO.

Madonna was used for DAD's theme song with this Eon regime. To get the 'little monsters' into the theatres for Bond 23 with Cr-egg, might they try to lure Lady Gag-Gag? My guess is they will try to get her to sing 'Cr-egg Was Born This Way' to stir up some buzz.

From what I've seen even Pirates 4 is not doing the boxoffice expected, I expect C & A to be a real turkey this summer.

Supposedly there is a European redband(R Rated) trailer for the The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake. The U.S. version should be out soon.

You actually make a good point. Depending on how it evolves for Pirates 4, I'll draw my conclusions. But if THAT doesn't manage to rake in what's expected, then I will start thinking it is possible that Cowboys & Aliens won't do all this well.

I would at this point be very surprised... I mean they're going out of their way to advertise it, and seriously, the producing and directing names behind it are HUGE. I do think it will do well in the US. Unsure it will do as well in Europe though. Craig is popular in England but not in the rest of Europe, and Olivia Wilde here isn't NEARLY as popular as she is in the US. So basically people would ALL have to see it for Harrison Ford. Who is certainly still a name, but not nearly as big as he used to be... They may make less money in Europe, but I'm fairly sure they'll rake in a lot in the US. Despite the fact it looks positively HORRIBLE. That trailer is just... horrid. But the sci-fi freaks will all go see it, AND Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde fans will, too. I guess it depends on how the movie actually is. If it's good then all is fine and they'll rake in a huge amount of money. If it's so and so or not good, well then all bets are off I guess, since word of mouth travels VERY fast in internet days.

LOL Blowfeld thinking that is serious advertising (which, if it was on Hollywood Reporter, IT IS), is just SCARY.

It looks like it serious advertising. What will they think of next?
Since when were there cars in Westerns? This definitely falls under the now-I've-seen-it-all NBCUniversal marketing from the same studio that once promoted its TV and movies by stickering grocery produce and cat food:
Gaffney, SC, May 25, 2011: JD Motorsports has partnered with Cowboys & Aliens, the upcoming action-thriller from director Jon Favreau (Iron Man) that stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde, in theaters July 29. For the first time in NASCAR history, a film will serve as a primary sponsor of a car for multiple races, and as many as 60,000 fans will have the chance to have their pictures displayed on the Cowboys & Aliens-themed car. The new partnership, which runs for 10 weeks, kicks off at the Top Gear 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 28, where the No. 01 Cowboys & Aliens Chevrolet Impala, driven by NASCAR veteran Mike Wallace, will be unveiled.

That's just scary. It IS serious. Good Lord. I am unsure what is more insulting about it, whether the bad taste or the implication that anyone who can't afford to have a white-collar job has to be a tacky person. Just... no words.

I was just thinking I can't believe how stupid the EON people are. I mean, well I can after all these years  but SERIOUSLY. How NO ONE from 2001 on has thought "let's hire Orci/Kurtzman for the script and JJ Abrams to direct" is beyond me. Then add Jeff Eastin from White Collar (Bond fan, and he's made many Bond references not just on his show but on Twitter on his account, too) who KNOWS how to deliver the sophisticated, suave part of it and it's done. Maroon 5 do the soundtrack. And OF FREAKING COURSE Henry Cavill is Bond. And Rachel McAdams is Moneypenny. Minka Kelly is the good Bond girl. If JJ can't direct, we'll have Campbell again (with such a team he'd RUN to direct another one). I mean anyone who has some freaking sense of where quality lies would do this. (not to mention with those names, big numbers guaranteed). I can't get over how NOBODY ever told them "uh wake up, these are the people you should have". And I mean, I know MGM is finally making a point of how things must change (and they have been since QoS) but seriously? This should have been the way ever since CR. Oh wait, as far as Campbell and Cavill are concerned that WAS the original plan. Too bad Babs derailed it. :fight:

I dont know much about Sam Mendes or his films..............i recently saw Road to Perdition, and it was quite a good film.

What i want to know is........ does Mendes have experience of filming large action set pieces........or could we be in Forster territory again?

We are EXACTLY in Forster territory again. Other than the fact I, unlike Craig fans, do NOT like "Road to Perdition", I can see why some find it nice. I loved American Beauty, but that's absolutely not the point. Actually it's what worries me because that has nothing to do with Bond... and I mean NOTHING. Mendes has absolutely ZERO experience with action movies like Bond and he's exactly the artsy type of director that does the same things as Forster. Maybe even worse because he's even more of the "psychological angle and turmoil" type. I'm telling you, they may try and fix this "attitude" he has to fit Bond, but I doubt it, and that is exactly what I am dreading for Bond 23.

If Cr-egg is in it, it will be pure dread anyway, so it really does not matter. Once he finishes bombing in Roy Rogers Meets The Jetsons, Hollywood will take heed and that will be it for his career once and for all.

Forster territory again? Probably.

If they do a 180 and start talking about embracing the old Bond maybe it will not be the movie Mendes is talking about making which is moody and dark, turning Bond on its head type of stuff.

Then the writer who said it will be shocking is gone so maybe there is hope.

Is it too late to re-cast for Bond 23?
I mean, can we finally have a real Bond again, before the cameras start rolling?
With Craig and Mendes partnered on a Bond film, I'm guessing Rachel Weisz will score a role, and the film will be dreadful.

Exactly Forster territory again. Mendes has directed some good films, but then so has Forster. They weren't action films, though.

Forgetting the issue of the lead actor for a moment.............as we all know that will change at some time!

But in the meanwhile, the Bond series still needs to be successful to continue.

I can understand that the producers are trying to make the Bond series more acceptable to say the critics by employing arty type directors.

But what worries me is that in doing so they are losing touch with what makes the Bond series successful in the first place.

As Mendes is directing Bond 23, lets hope that his editors have experience in cutting fast paced expensive action sequences.

I think the 2nd unit on QOS did do a good job, but their work was obliterated by some amazing ineptitude in the cutting room.

If Bond 23 is anything like QOS............then i will agree, that the producers have not learnt anything, and that other people should be involved in the main decisions in taking on the francises future!

Lets hope it doesnt come to this!

It shouldn't come to this, meaning it probably will. Both times the franchise did a much need retool it was on the cusp being lost (after 1974 & 1989). Casino Royale was the first time they retooled and rebooted when the franchise was actually very healthy.

Casting Craig was a brave decision and looking back it maybe one of their greatest mistakes. They cemented themselves with Craig and do not have a lot of room to maneuver. With Craig the story can't go much further and it has already gone off the rails whit a second film! ( ) For the sake of the future of the franchise they should recast and take a new direction. Honestly after Craig leaves they are not going to continue his kind of movies so they might as well move now before Bond loses any more momentum. And lose momentum is what a Mendes helmed film is likely to do. With another director I would be more willing to give them another chance.
