Anyone else disappointed the Oscars didn't give any tribute to John Barry beyond a two second mention of him? I find it quite absurd that they would dedicate a moment to playing John Williams music for no reason at all and not play any music by Barry, not even one of his more popular title music like GF and AVTAK.
But then again the Academy also nominated Marvin Hamlisch's work for the disco heavy THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, while they gave no nominations for any of John Barry's work on Bond. I find that to be utterly absurd.
John Barry gets no respect from the Oscars.

I agree, music-wise he was an incredible influence and talent. I was always a fan of Barry's work and while I don't want to trash anyone else's importance, I thought they would have given him more of a tribute. There again, that's a show and they just make bizarre choices very often. Or sometimes they privilege one thing over the other for reasons that only they can understand.

He wa sa legend for so m any reasons. I think his bond worked defined a movie genre that has to be owrth some kind of recognition.

Indeed. Quite a shame too given how many oscar noms and wins the Academy gave him. He should have gotten a special recognition. I bet you they will not give the same treatment to John Williams, the Star Wars fanboys wouldn't have any of it.

Even J Barry's non Bond work was Fantastic. Out of Africa, Dances with Wolves and the Harry Palmer films. But then it's not the first Time the Academy hasn't show what I consider Due respect to an Artist.

Re: John Barry gets no respect from the Oscars.
If it gives you any idea, the filmmakers didn't actually show John Barry the finished film because they were afraid he'd take his name off the project! If the score sounds like Barry on autopilot, that's because it is.Thunderpussy wrote:I have to admitt i missed Starcrash. But I googled it and it seems I've missed an Epic

John Barry berry was an inspired composer. He helped pioneered the use of synthesizers and his greatest work changed movie history sadly he will never get credit for it.
