Sad truth.bjmdds wrote:"The Bond team would try and workout something never seen on screen before" : they did do this Thunder P---they chose a horrible looking actor as Bond and the result was dreadful.
Look, they can just watch a random episode of Alias and get ideas. I guess they'd only get 1/10 of the plot though so not sure that would work either.

If you think about it, the Bond films haven't had a 'signature stunt' since the bungee jump in GE. That was 15-16 years ago.Thunderpussy wrote:I hope they go with a huge PTS Stunt sequence to Bring Bond back with a bang,But I think the days of Big Stunts are Over as the last two movies have IMHO ben small in scale on the action Front,Sure CR had the crane jump but the rest was basicly a foot chase.Repeated in QOS.Even the opening Car chase in QOS was a very predestrian affair,Nothing special. There was a time when The Bond team would try and workout something never seen on screen before or give an old idea a new Twist.Although I do remember seeing a clip on you-tube with Bond's car being flipped on its side. This may of been rejected from the finished print or merely shot to put the Paps of the scent of what they were really doing. But with Mendes Directing, and Craig and Weisz staring along with Dench, I'm not expection too much action in the next Outing, and then perhaps a slow decline until Someone else Buys the Rights.

TND - Bike jumps over helicopter.
TWINE - Boat does spiral in mid air jump
DAD - BAD cgi takes over from actual stunts
CR - Bond jumps from crane (still a good stunt mind you) and rolls a car. Over and over and over...(Again good stunt)
QOS - Another foot chase , rides a motorbike , drives a boat , flies a plane...more dodgy cgi.
Come on EON, give us real stunts and well designed action sequences. Not ski scenes tacked on just for the sake of it ala TWINE.
As I said earlier, take a look at films like OHMSS and TLD.
Lots of stuff to please all.
But then I thought about the film that got me hooked on Bond, and I know this is the film to make it all work. TSWLM.
It's not everyone's favourite Bond film, but it sure does tick alot of the right boxes.
Action
Globe trotting
Memorable villains
More action
Massive sets
Huge action sequences with two opposing forces battling each other
Girls in bikinis

I feel badly for the cable networks that have the rights(and show) DAD.Quite frequently. I mean, even *they* know that it's crap but it's filling in holes in their schedule.Honestly, that's the best they can do?

Re: Spyglass near to closing a deal with MGM
I only watched DAD twice (or maybe three times). That's saying something because I looove Pierce. I've seen all his other ones at least a half dozen times each (actually, I've seen GoldenEye probably a dozen times at least). I do not know what they were thinking. I mean the first half is fine, but that ending, and all the CGI, it's just tragically bad.katied wrote:I feel badly for the cable networks that have the rights(and show) DAD.Quite frequently. On the other hand, I would MUCH RATHER watch DAD than EITHER CR or, God forbid, the horror that was QoS. So in the end, yes it's bad, but still not as bad as stuff with Craig for me. As in, DAD stars James Bond, while the others two don't. DAD still feels like a Bond movie for quite a few reasons. The other two just aren't for me.

The CGI movie would have been a much better title for DAD

Sadly true. How the hell they got certain ideas is beyond me. Would have been better to just have a party scene where they were all drunk celebrating themselves. At least I could have taken advantage of drunken Piercekatied wrote:The CGI movie would have been a much better title for DAD

Just for the sake of comparison and to give PROOF to the above priceless statement "Not enough Oil of Olay in the world to save him mate"...Mazer Rackham wrote:Nahhh Craig is quickly withering. Not enough Oil of Olay in the world to save him mate. Catch him at the wrong angel or using an unfiltered lenses, hello grandpa! His bloody co-stars say he reminds him of their fathers that's not sexy outside the deep South (or Utah).
If this were a clip of the CR poster I don't think there we would have a loyal fan base uniting to preserve Bond and protest Craig's action movies using the Bond brand.
Oddly we all seem to agree on young CavillI think that young man has the Bond look, Attitude (Good Attitude), and Ability to deal with people.
This is the latest Craig appearance.
I am shocked. These photos are from his arrival at LAX airport today. I don't for the love of me understand how anyone can dare say this man is attractive. Again, by in person experience and impression, he's definitely got very nice eye color. That is it though. As in, that's IT. I'm sure he didn't find me anything special either

And yeah, let's compare to Cavill please. Because Henry can only gain from such a comparison. Seriously.

I was truly shocked, I mean it. Sure, the flash has made him appear paler than he is, but he is ghost-like pale. And it's all the rest that doesn't work as well to be James Bond. I'm sorry, there is no way I will ever be convinced he's Bond. Sir Roger dyed his hair and hello? He had the allure and style Bond is supposed to have. This guy just doesn't. It's as simple as that. He isn't Bond. That doesn't mean he is a bad actor or anything else. He just isn't Bond.

The names Bond, James Bond, the world's best dressed man (2006 and 2008 or when a Bond movie is released and Eon have a big promotional budget)

Re: Spyglass near to closing a deal with MGM
I really don't see Bond 23 happening by the magical 2012 date with this bankruptcy continuing to drag out. If a movie filmed and ready to go that MGM does have the money for is in doubt what hope is there for anything else?
This story can be found at http://www.fusedfilm.com/2011/01/red-da ... e-in-2011/
With MGM’s restructuring plan complete after a $500 million line of credit from JPMorgan, there has been much news made about the studio’s move to get both The Hobbit and James Bond 23 into production quickly. What about the films MGM shelved during its bankruptcy? movies like Red Dawn, The Cabin in the Woods and others. Not much has been said about those languishing projects but word is spreading that MGM may put the Red Dawn remake out this year.
The film was directed by Dan Bradley, who tried to have the studio sell the project to Fox so they could release it last year but that never happened. The completed film has been sitting on a shelf unseen ever since. The story revolves around a ragtag team of high school students who fight to save their town against a Chinese invasion. The film is now gearing up for a potential 2011 release date, it will now be going head-to-head with the similarly themed Tomorrow, When the War Began. Already a hit in Australia and other parts of the world, this adaptation of the John Marsden novel also pits a group of high school students against an invading army. The official release date will most likely land in the fall, as MGM isn’t expected to fully emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy for several more months.
Red Dawn comes to theaters sometime in 2011 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, Josh Peck, Brett Cullen, Matt Gerald. The film is directed by Dan Bradley. In a Hollywood Reporter interview, screenwriter Carl Ellsworth described the tone of the film’s remake as:
“The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we’re in. As ‘Red Dawn’ scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?”
"Those were the days when we still associated Bond with suave, old school actors such as Sean Connery and Roger Moore,"
"Daniel didn't have a hint of suave about him," - Patsy Palmer

That hat is ridiculous (not to mention what it does to his ears) but the rest of the outfit is ok, nothing bad. Except for the horrid shoes. SURELY not anything that should compete for world's best dressed man though. Yeah, the budget remark probably cuts it.

You're right about this Blowfeld. I hadn't considered the whole Hobbit situation. I just want to hope, for the sake of the franchise, that they get their cr*p together. I have doubts myself about 2012, but I want to wait until the end of this month, mid-February to see. If by then there's no news, then I'd say it's nearly impossible for them to come through with Bond 23 by 2012.I really don't see Bond 23 happening by the magical 2012 date with this bankruptcy continuing to drag out. In fairness to Dan.

David Beckham

Brad Pitt
Both these guys have been voted 'well dressed' yet I'm having trouble looking at these images to see how.
The whole 'best dressed' thing is just your typical BS to sell magazines. It holds no merit. It's just advertising.

Brad looks like a homeless person in those pictures. Beckham too.And Beckham's wife looks like she could stand to eat a couple of hamburgers.

Re: Spyglass near to closing a deal with MGM
LOL. I agree on Brad Pitt but I have to disagree on Beckham, especially based on first-hand experience. (and btw he is well-dressed in that photo too, except for the shoes. But the hat, sweater, light blue shirt, jeans? Are perfect. And, he CAN wear a hat. Craig cannot, neither can Brad Pitt, but Beckham can.)
So since we were talking about my job here, I'll explain. I have worked for Bloomberg for 6 and a half years, until 2006. I'm a journalist (now script writer too, and professional translator), but despite being at Bloomberg I was the SPORTS reporter for Italy. (I had to do a good deal of finance too, that's inevitable but I was the sports correspondent for them, and responsible for all coverage on Italy). So that meant any big sports event here, I was the person. Which of course means I've seen countless Champions League matches (for the Americans, this is the biggest soccer competition in Europe. And the most lucrative, too. It's throughout Europe). So I've seen Beckham quite a few times up, close and personal. The man is MOST DEFINITELY a style icon. Anything he wears, he bloody makes it stylish. He's got a natural elegance to him. And man, he can pick stuff that people still aren't wearing and make it fashionable. I was never particularly into him, and I was all "meh" when my friends were literally screaming because I was going to see him at the stadium.
Then one night after a Juventus vs Real Madrid match, I got to talk to him for a good 15 minutes. My super ignorant Italian colleagues did NOT speak English, and the Spanish colleagues were scrumming with my other Italian colleagues to get the Spanish and Italian players. So out arrived Beckham AND Owen too (aw he's so sweet! looks like a kid, but very cute). There were only two British journalists, who were there together and started talking to them. I waited for my turn and spoke to Owen first and Beckham then (we were in the so-called "mixed zone", where all the players/coaches pass after the match for interviews). Well, obviously he was right in front of me, and I DID realize that the man is bloody gorgeous
He truly is. He's not exactly my type, but I've got eyes and there's nothing to be said there: he's gorgeous. Contrary to popular perception, he is VERY smart. And very well-spoken. He's also very kind and professional. He had this pinstripe suit on, with a light blue shirt and a navy blue tie. Church shoes. And he was holding his LV necessaire bag. Well, he was d**n elegant. (Also smelled great, but that's another matter
). I have seen him in many occasions, and he's always impeccable. Including the casual looks. He's the only man I know who can pull off even the flip-flop look (I HATE flip-flops and they must ONLY be used to go to the beach, the end.) But anyway.. like him or not, he's definitely a style icon. And he's nowhere near Brad Pitt or (EEEK!) Daniel Craig in that sense. Unlike them, he DOES have style. Including in the above photo (shoes excluded, but the rest is perfect. Oxford shirt untucked, white cotton sweater above it, matching hat, black jeans. You don't need to wear a suit all the time to be stylish.. you need to have style though. And he does). I've heard many of my (MALE) colleagues here change their tune about him after his stints at AC Milan. They all said (even wrote in their stories) that he really is a polite, smart man. And very professional. I assure you that can't be said about many football players. On top of that, style icon.
Ok, Beckham dissertation over. Who's next? Daniel Craig? I rest my case Your Honor
Brad Pitt (met him in person too, at a disco in London) A)doesn't have the slightest style at all and B) how do I put it... he isn't very good friends with soap and shower. EEEEEW. Also he isn't as attractive in person.
And all this said, of course all those "best dressed" and "sexiest" awards hold no merit whatsoever. I've heard this right from the editors of People who handle it. They explained how they pick the person that's going to give them the most "returns" in that moment in terms of number of hits or readers. Which of course means, just and only advertising.
