The PTS sequences were never that spectacular until TSWLM. Since then they have all been spectacular with the exception of CR. Since LTK all PTS have been the beginning of the films story, which is also a good idea.Captain Nash wrote:Of all the pts some are real standouts.
1. Goldfinger.
2. The Spy Who Loved Me.
3. Octopussy
4. The Living Daylights
5. GoldenEye
Honorable mentions to OHMSS, TND and CR.

1. TSWLM - ski jump is the best stunt ever
2. MR - I'm really surprised that nobody mentioned the free fall before
3. TWINE
4. GE - bungee jump was really breathtaking
5. OP - "What a small world, you're Torro too." and mini-jet of course.

The MR pts is very impressive, well staged and a great stunt too boot but, it's just too silly. The inclusion of Jaws ruins it. Why is he on the plane? And why doesn't he kill Bond whilst it's in flight?
The less said about his trying to fly and landing in a circus net the better.
Could've, should've been a great pts...let down by a cheap gag, and poor storytelling. This would be done again in AVTAK.

Spot on Nash. I actually feel Jaws let's that scene and a few others down. If only they had waited and used Jaws's first appearance till the scene in Rio (clown suit). Even today I find that particular scene quite haunting. The way Jaws just stands there.Captain Nash wrote: The MR pts is very impressive, well staged and a great stunt too boot but, it's just too silly. The inclusion of Jaws ruins it. My favourites are Goldfinger, Thunderball and The Living Daylights.
I also like TSWLM and Moonraker, really breath-taking and cool, despite some silly humour.
I'm not as enthusiastic about Moore's three last films though, they felt mostly as an excuse to just show off a stunt.
I don't like OHMSS, the set-up is really Bondian but the sequence is ruined by cartoonish fight choreography and those tyre screeching in the sand, haha stupid
LALD and TMWTGG is also really crappy. No Bond featured in the pre-credits, what were they thinking?
Recent pre-credits haven't been particularly good either, too much explosions and Hollywood style action. They don't capture the old Bondian atmosphere.
Casino Royale wasn't good either, it certainly didn't feel like it was Bond's first assignment. More a hardened killer at work.
And that stupid new "gunbarrel", why oh why?

1. Goldfinger - The classic PTS, which begins by toying with our perception. What makes this guy James Bond? He removes a wetsuit to reveal his tux. Connery also cemented his 00 status by making us wonder which objective he really considered to be his primary one: The explosive...or the rendezvous?
2. The Spy Who Loved Me - Much like the film's ending, this one pretty much refined a part of the James Bond formula. In this case, how to open a Bond film. Bond is betrayed, but of course he doesn't mind because he's James Bond. And while the previous films all had a clever PTS, this one started off by giving away one of the film's most memorable stunts. The fact that it blends seamlessly into a clever visual (Bond's parachute), a great credits sequence, and one of the best theme songs just underscores its quality. This is one I always try to catch during Bond marathons.
3. The Living Daylights - The best introduction of a new 007. It skillfully plays with the audience's expectations, which makes the sudden reveal all the more satisfying. It also establishes that this new 007 doesn't play games or deliver quips- yet he is still the same guy we know and love (and who loves women).
4. The World Is Not Enough - Just when you thought you knew the formula by heart, this PTS took the idea of a "mini movie" to a whole new level. I love the final shot of a wounded Bond lying on the Millenium Dome as the credits begin to roll.
5. Thunderball - A great revenge opening with a brutal fistfight. But admittedly, any action hero could've pulled that off. The kicker is that only James Bond would leave the scene via jetpack. And then, of course, meet up with his beautiful ally and expensive car...which just happens to shoot jets of water.

I hate that line. It makes absolutely no sense within the context of the movie. At least when Connery made that remark in DAF about returning from his holiday, it had a double meaning. The OHMSS line was Lazenby turning to the camera and reminding the audience that they were watching a movie and that he wasn't Sean Connery. Totally pulls you out of the picture. It's the sort of thing Martin Campbell would do.carl stromberg wrote:Wonderful!3. OHMSS- "This never happened to the other fellow."
