He has his weak points and his detractors. But he knows how to tell a story and I think he captured the old proud Brit feel with the English agent sent to France. He made a believable team of Basterds and the french resistance girl was total believable. His 1940s is completely believable and I think he could have captured the feel of Fleming's Bond period piece on not.

Does anyone who has seen Basterds Disagree?
In a way I can see what you are talking about. Quentin himself originally talked about it being a one off character-driven movie.
IB is a slow paced movie with several character-driven plots drivng towords one goal, in a way Fleming's CR is the same sort of WWII fantasy playing out in 1953 with Commies instead of Nazis.

I think if QT had mad CR the Bulgarians would have blown themselves up as they should and maybe it he would have used the chapter breaks with Fleming chapter titles.

Could be the reason the wonder twins didn't look twice at QT aside from lifting his ideas is he wanted to make it for under $100m (QT made IB for 70m, grindhouse 67m, Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 30m each), part of their graft is in the production costs so that might not have made it enticing to them. And QT and Brozza's frustration in public making Babs and Mikey look clueless and uncertain of what to do with their franchise might not have endeared them to the Eon brass either.

If QT is still complaining about not having a chance to do CR, I think he should just shut up and do a regular espionage movie with Pierce as the lead.

Easy enough to do if they want to make it.They couldn't use the Bond theme, name or gunbarrel everything else would be fair game as long as they change it enough to be different from the book Casino Royale. They could even bring back the other Bond series actors for various roles.

Casino Royale is a dull book, Fleming became a better story teller in his later books. Most of Casino Royale is generic settings with generic characters, plot and story arc.

What, you mean like that '60s Eurospy movie (I think it was called Operation Kid Brother or something similar) that had Sean's little bro as a spy, Bernard Lee as his boss and Lois Maxwell as his boss's secretary?

Great name OK Connery (1967) :roll:

It has a few Bond people besides M and Moneypenny.
A mystery why it never took off. :lol:

All the Bond right belong to EON now. What Tarantino can do now is making his own non-Bond spy film.

What makes the bond movies work isn't the names and theme music.I don't know why nobody has bothered to make a serious cloned series yet.The bond makers don't give a crap about Bond or what made him work so why shouldn't another studio made series based more or less on bond with out the name but with the good manners?

MST3K 508 - Operation Double 007
Air Date September 11, 1993
Running Time 104 min.
AKA OK Connery;
Operation Kid Brother;
Secret Agent 00
Synopsis

The evil crime syndicate Thanatos is bent on taking over the world using a magnetic wave generator that will cause all metal-based machinery to grind to a halt. However, the well-known British secret agent normally assigned to such tasks isn't available, so they engage his civilian brother, Neil (Connery), to help. Connery is a world-class plastic surgeon, hypnotist, and lip-reader, which turn out to be precisely the skills required for thwarting Thanatos.[1]
Information

The film's star Neil Connery was the younger brother of Sean Connery, the big James Bond star of the '60's when this spoof was made. Quite a number of actors and regulars from the EON Productions James Bond series made cameos in this spoof, even playing similar characters. These included Bernard Lee, Lois Maxwell, Daniela Bianchi, Adolfo Celi, and Yashiko Yama.[2] The bizarre aspect was that the characters' names were the actors names, so Neil Connery played Neil Connery (implying Sean Connery was a real secret agent!), while Lois Maxwell played Miss Maxwell.

I just watched part 1 of this and I'm already laughing at their riff on the opening credits.

OK, I've finally finished watching it. Not the best MST3K ever, but still plenty of LOL lines. I think they overdid the running gag about people asking Dr. Connery for his brother's autograph, though.
