I'd still like to see Oasis do a Bond song, but I think their popularity over in the US may not be big enough for this to happen.

Not familiar with this group Sweeney, what is their big hit in the UK?

I think Ash would do a good Bond theme. Some of their songs have a very Barryesque quality. Though, as The Sweeney said of Oasis, they are not well-known enough in the States. I think American audiences would only know them, if at all, from their contributions to the Shaun of the Dead soundtrack.

So I guess that rules them out. They're not known in the States and can't qualify.
Sad but true.
I'm trying to think of a good female artist who could do justice to a Bond ballad. No-one is springing to mind at present.

Whitney Houston,Kelly Clarkson,Carrie Underwood,Pink,Christina Aguillera, any interest the Nashster?

Ash are a really good band. Seen them live and they really rocked. Not sure if they would produce the right sound for Bond though.

Have you heard There's A Star? It has an orchestral overture that sounds so Bondian, I had to check the album credits to make sure it wasn't written by John Barry.

They were big in the mid 90's. Back then they were an up and coming 'attitude' band that had plenty to say. More recently they have been churning out recycled cr*p. Liam (The lead singer) has a really whiney voice that you either like or don't. The lyrics are laughable on some tracks. "She done it with a Doctor on a Helicopter" is one that sticks in the mind. Noel 'Thunderbird' Gallagher's guitar riffs can often be found on a beginners guide to guitars. He certainly ain't no Kurt Hammett.

I was watching a television channel on cable in the USA tonight discussing the upcoming summer blockbusters. Believe it or not, Die Hard 4 is said to have twice as many positive blogs as is Spiderman 3, which will be huge this weekend. The commentator said the public craves action, and Die Hard 4 delivers. I know Missouri's own Mr. Babits is anxiously awaiting Die Hard 4, but who else is? Willis,now 52, claims it is better than Die Hard 1. I guess an actor in his 50s still can draw fans in for an action film(hint...hint).......

Skywalker is right, they reached their peak in the mid 90's, with hits like Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Live Forever, Champagne Supernova, Some Might Say, All Around the World.

They are completely inspired by all things Beatles (haircuts, lifestyle, music), and at one time here in the UK, they were tipped to be bigger than The Beatles - peaking with 2 huge live gigs at Knebworth.

But after the release of their third album, Be Here Now, their popularity declined somewhat. They still occassionally have the gift to write great songs even now, and each new album or single is still a big event here in the UK.

I just think Noel Gallagher has an uncanny knack of writing songs that sound like Lennon/McCartney had written, and with a new song taking inspiration from McCartney's own LALD (which no doubt Gallagher would do) we could be in for another Bond single classic.

But their main problem is not being that well known over in the US, so it will never happen.

I downloaded the track last night and you could be right. It has a Bond element to it.

What about TSWLM,MR,FYEO,OP,and AVTAK, where Moore was 50,52,54,56,and 58? Sweeney, did you ever consider the UK's Adrian Paul for Bond? He is now 47, but has that look for Bond, IMO.

Cornell was no big name in the USA and Eon used him, even after test audiences were not overly enthused with his CR song, so you never know.

He is now 47, but has that look for Bond, IMO.[/quote]Besides NSNA, Bond isn't suppose to be some aging hero where in Die Hard 4, they're going to acknowledge McClane as a retired cop and out of the loop with society where he is more old fashioned, never bothering to use e-mails and such. Bond ,however, is suppose to be an up to date running agent in his prime. As for Roger Moore, he stayed far too long, he should have left after FYEO where he was already starting to look age. Then again they were starting to acknowledge it by Octopussy with the Moneypenny scene:

Bond: "I didn't say that!"
Moneypenny: "Oh James, the flatterer."

Speaking of which, isn't it ironic that Madonna's song for The Spy Who Shagged Me was more pop oriented and better than the one she attempted in Die Another Day? I'm sure EON wasn't expecting her to pull off a techno song but instead do what made her famous. They should have had David Arnold work with her and keep some consistency.

I am not a Madonna fan at all, did not like her cameo line in DAD, and did not like her theme song in DAD. Eon must have thought she was more popular than she actually was in 2002.
