Exactly Kristatos. Because of the new format, the competition has changed, it's not exactly like 2002 when DAD was primarily on DVD selling (VHS too, though that barely made a dent). Perhaps if CR was primarily released on DVD, sales would have been different.

But for now, we're at a point where a new format is building up to take the dominant position for the next decade like the DVDs did in the 90s when it built up for the 2000s.

Are you including Blu-Raysales in that?
I believe they include all formats in such figures.

I am curious about whether Sony, BB and MW figured upon this in their plans to cast Craig.
What, that worldwide CR would gross more than DAD......? I'm sure they would be delighted by this prospect.

I think this may shed some light on the DVD sales.
On the first day of release in the USA, "Die Another Day" sold an astonishing 1 million DVD units. According to industry sources, two of the largest retailers were already placing reorders by the second day of release. So far it is estimated that MGM have shipped 8 million units (DVD and VHS combined) to stores in the USA.

Re: CR Behind DAD, Even in 2002 Dollars

Just an update on this DVD sales comparison:

Casino Royale (2006) 54 Days $1.56M This Week $38.1M Total
Die Another Day (2002) 54 Days $ 1.7M This Week $64M Total

Adjusted for inflation, DAD would be at $69.8M total in today's USD

Casino Royale (2006) 33 Days $3.57M This Week $31.8M Total
Die Another Day (2002) 33 Days $5.6M This Week $55.9M Total

Adjusted for inflation, DAD would be at $61M total in today's USD, almost double CR. Just like the inflation-adjusted US box office, CR does not impress in the US.

As for its impressive international BO, it would not be so much of what it was without the weak USD.

BTW, nice to join all of you.

Thanks for the info Pete.

How has CR done in terms of Blu Ray sales? Perhaps this is a reason for it's poor showing against DAD.

BTW are the results based on US or Worldwide totals?

Perhaps the Captain spends too much time on his 'vessel' of choice...
