When I first heard about QT wanting to do Bond I didn't like the idea because I generally don't like his movies. However if he had met the franchise half way I think it could have been impressive and a decent farewell for Pierce.

QT as a fan and innovator might have made CR a decent story and more than a cheap imitation of other movies. One thing that would be guaranteed is the torture scene would have been something to remember. As it was done it was half serious half laughable but that result was not at all intensional. It was intended to be oh so serious but the audience was laughing.

I think QT tempered and Brozza unleashed CR combined with good writing CR could have a crown jewel and it probably would have done more BO just from the QT controversy and Brozza's last film buzz.
The introspective nature of the story might have suited a more mature portrayal but I think it would have been better with a young Bond rather than Brozzer or Craig.

However, I would love to see a big name director get a Bond film for once. Tony Scott, Michael Mann, or (dare I say it) Spielberg.

But never in a month of Sundays will this ever happen.......

I think, in the past Spielberg would have had a chance. Not so much anymore.
Spielberg never had a chance. He might do now with his backing up Babs move.

Cubby wouldn't consider Spielberg because he wanted points.

I think you missing what could have been possible. Brozza finally free to bring his Bond to the screen working with a director with an edge. It could have been crap but I think it could have been brutally magnificent. Eon doesn't have the balls for it and still doesn't. They haven't had an original idea in years and they lack the fortitude to truly do something innovative.

So long as Queen Babs is running the show, "innovative" will *not* be the word to describe EON

The young Bond would have been innovative. They did not go through with it in CR.

Young 20somthing Bond would be interesting. I'm not sure what the hell Craig was supposed to be. Ex Con Bond maybe.

Campbell and Haggis said the film would have a Bond in his twenties so I expected a young unknown actor and perhaps some scenes of 007 in the Royal Navy. That would have been incredibly bold. As it transpired they left a vague Bond on his first mission element to the film mainly through the PTS where Bond shot that old man, whoever he was. It doesn't really make much sense that the 00-Section would recruit 38-year-olds and train them up. They'd be nearly retired by the time they were fully trained.

Exactly. Most people would be around their mid 20's when they were recruited. 38 is *ancient* for a new hire

Craig could play an older jaded Bond now - only a few years after playing a young one.

everytime i read about Quentin Tarantino and Bond I want to shout no!!!!

But I would like to hear what his ideas were and how he and Pierce, who had talked about in depth with him, wanted to work it out. HE claims they stole his ideas, well put up or shut up.

Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.

He's not even in the same league to work with EON, if you get my drift  but if they did steal his ideas, he should prove it, or shut up,as Dr. No said.

Stole his ideas? I didn't realise QT wrote CR....I always thought another person did back in 1952.....can't remember his name off the top of my head.

Quentin Tarantino will never be that clever.Yet another reason I think the man's overrated..his a**holishness is going to come back to haunt him one of these times. :?

Eons attitude was CR was unfilmable and QT contends he had ideas for it and approached them with them and they took his ideas. My question is over the guilds he is a member of.I thought there was a problem with his not being qualified to work with eon based on that.

Quentin needs to get over himself. And start making quality movies again.Everything after the Kill Bill films is dreadful. He never was, and never will be,EON-worthy.

Given how CR is one of the top successful Bond films of all time without involvment by either Brosnan or Tarantino, looks like EON made the wisest choice.
