I think for all those who are disliking Daniel Craig in the role, you're missing out on a great opportunity to see Fleming's Bond on screen, second only to Timothy Dalton's performance.
I was really pissed that Clive Owen wasn't even considered the role of Bond but if he can be the bigger person and say Craig will do a good job then who here is to say he can't?
Are you all just mad that Daniel did in just one film was more than Bronsan could do with four? Pierce only had two good movies under his belt but he wasn't MY James Bond. Pierce was great but he brought NOTHING to the role. Feel free to disagree with that, butPierce is gone now and he's never coming back.
Lastly, have ANY of you really gotten it? This is James Bond version 2 movie 1...hence Bond 21. New Bond, new direction away from the cinematic elements that made James Bond what he was and adding a much needed Fleming'esque return to form.
Now what ISN'T cool about that? All of us might be getting a chance to see Ian Fleming's literary character onscreen for the first time, and if you continue to snub the new direction of the franchise...you'll be sorry you missed out.
The cinematic Bond..the one you all know and love is gone. I'm sorry for your loss but at least try to look at the future in a new and positive light.
Thank you for reading.

That's where the problem lies. DC's James Bond is still cinematic. A true Flemingesque Bond would be a Cold war agent, would have a male M, not that blonde, arrogant and egoistic EON version. If they couldn't bring the true Flemingesque Bond onscreen, why bother changing the cinematic Bond?Lastly, have ANY of you really gotten it? This is James Bond version 2 movie 1...hence Bond 21. As for me, I'm not being judgemental. I just don't like the way they change so many things in an effort to bring the Bond franchise in a new direction. In fact I like Dalton's version of Bond despite his lack of humor.
BOND sells, NOT CRAIG
The reboot is a risky area, did Eon need to do it? NO. Did this confuse alot of people? YES.
The Bond character will always be anchored in the values of the 60s

Bond wasn't Bond he was Bourn. -Nothing Fleming about him.
JB didn't suddenly be come JB becasue of vesper or anybody else -he was JB and continued on. -this bond version 2 . 1 is a action hero and less Fleming than the early SC or GL,TD bonds.

I was never a `Craigian' before CR. But I've always been a Bond fan!
Re: Don't be so judgemental
We're all Bond fans here, but that doesn't mean we have to agree on Craig, or any other Bond actor or film. Someone who likes light-hearted Bond and whose favourite Bond film is Moonraker is no less of a Bond fan than you are, Sweeney. They just have different ideas about what Bond should be than you (or I) do.The Sweeney wrote:No, not Craigians......Bond fans!

But in the past there hasn't been a group of break away fans opposed to the current Bonds casting.
One that at the time tarnished all Bond fans, so it appeared (incorrectly for a while) that all Bond fans were against Craigs casting.
That's when I decided to give Craig a fair chance, see what he could do.
Blonde hair, and he's too short. Are some of you for real?

Welcome to the forum 008. I feel like I've read this post several times on here already (right down to the assumption that we're all Pierce Brosnan fanatics and wanted him and his invisible car to go on until he needed a stairlift or something) but...
We get this is Bond 2.1 blah, blah. I've no problem with a fresh slant on James Bond and I can survive continuity issues. But for me CR was a Bond film without James Bond in it. This 'Bond' owes more to Barbara Broccoli's taste in men than any strict adherence to Ian Fleming. Fleming's visual descriptions of James Bond, (tall, lean, comma of black-hair, film star handsome) with the best will in the world don't fit with Daniel Craig. I have no idea why people throw this 'Craig is Fleming's Bond' thing around so casually. He doesn't even look like him! Fleming's Bond is a bit of a snob, obsessed with food, at home in exclusive clubs. He went to Eton. Craig does not convey this background. If Fleming's Bond ever did faithfully turn up on the big screen the film would be set during the cold war and 007 would be a chain-smoking Agent forced to do a bit of office pen-pushing as he threatened to give his secretary a good spanking. How a blonde haired bruiser with one facial expression in a Bourne inspired CR can be Fleming's Bond is beyond me.
I agree. Craig isn't Bond. The cinematic Bond..the one you all know and love is gone

If you'd never seen a Bond film and your only reference to James Bond was through the novels, would you picture Craig as Bond?008 wrote:I think for all those who are disliking Daniel Craig in the role, you're missing out on a great opportunity to see Fleming's Bond on screen, second only to Timothy Dalton's performance.

Just because it's Clive Owen does not mean he's right. He has a different opinion to my own. If Craig delivered in Bond 21 then I would be big enough and more than happy enough to say he did a good job. IMO he failed to deliver a Bond performance.
I disagree.008 wrote:Are you all just mad that Daniel did in just one film was more than Bronsan could do with four? Pierce only had two good movies under his belt but he wasn't MY James Bond. Still the same. I'm completely fed up with this treating Fleming books008 wrote: All of us might be getting a chance to see Ian Fleming's literary character onscreen for the first time
as a Bible. In my life I've read a couple of Fleming novels and while some of them gave me a lot of satisfaction (e.g. Dr No), some others were highly disappointing (e.g. Risico). Granted, Fleming invented great character with enormous cinematic potential (which was proved over all those years) but technically he wasn't a top-class writer.
It also must be pointed out that Bond gained in popularity mainly thanks to the films. They've never been faithfull to the books. On the contrary - they added a lot of new elements which resulted in creating complete, consistent character of Bond. And it's the character who became an international icon. So if you ask me, I really see no point in outlook that Fleming novels should be the only guideline how to make a decent Bond film.
By the way, after reading the novels I haven't had the impression that Bond is primitive, arogant, egoistic , irresponsible thug (as Craig's Bond was in CR). Well, maybe I just haven't read them carefully enough.

So with that in mind you wont be upset with the casting of Daniel Craig then. It's not a problem for you.
But go back and read the novels. They do make for some good reading. Honestly. And I don't see Craig as a primitive, egotistacal, irresponsible thug.
I see him as the current James Bond, putting his style and characterisation on a character created by Ian Fleming.

I will. It seems this knowledge is indispensable in Bond-related discussions nowadays. But go back and read the novels. They do make for some good reading. Honestly.
I still do think that Craig's Bond was egoistic, irresponsible etc. However, up to this moment I used to blame for it scriptwriters and director more than Craig himself. But if you claim that it's his style and characterisation...And I don't see Craig as a primitive, egotistacal, irresponsible thug. That is one point that Robert mentioned, he also stated that the future films should stay true to the cinematic Bond also. Robert rightly points out that James Bond would not have the appeal he has without the movies and Cubby's interpretation.Captain Nash wrote: Well you seem to be saying that the producers or film makers should only use Fleming as a guide?
Well if that's the case then I can see no problem with Craig's casting.
The majority of Bond fans will have watched the films before reading the novels, so staying true to the cinematic Bond is also important.
