Happy St.George's Day to everyone. St.George is the patron saint of England, and therefore this is England's national day.

There's a Bond connection too. Fleming often used allusions to the legend of St. George and the dragon in his Bond books.

I thought St. George's Day was considered kind of,well, controversial there..Because it's a holiday honoring the patron saint of England it brings out the patriotism in some people, which may offend those that came to England from other places(like Jamaica).

Just sayin'..

In my experience, it's not so much the people who came from other countries who are offended by St. George's Day as the people who get their jollies from being offended on their behalf.

Ahh. The reason I ask is that I ask is that I've always seen it portrayed as being controversial.I KNOW that's got to be a minority(heh) opinion there.

For someone of mixed race(black and white) like me, it's an interesting thing to observe.I guess I wouldn't say I'm offended by it,but it does puzzle me. 8)

The Union Jack was considered racist by some people because of its connection to British imperialism and its use by some neo-fascist groups and football hooligans. The use of the St. George's cross has increased in recent years. The Union Jack used to be used as England's flag. Many left-wing people used the St. Georges cross. But, on St. George's Day there were radio phone ins with people discussing whether the St. George's cross is racist because some far-right groups use it. :cuss:

Just looking at various places online I saw a ,how shall we say.... colonial attitude at a few when it came to St. George's Day .
